  1. Sorry. Looking back, I can see why you may have interpreted it that way. But I just meant in the eyes of the people of Syria. There seem to be a lot of them that want US involvement to protect them from slaughter by Assad's forces, or ISIS, or Al Nusra. At the same time, if we do help, we'll surely take some heat for killing innocents as well.
  2. I don't really know. Are you speaking about groups within Syria? I think the "moderates" wouldn't like it, but they're not going to like much of anything we do in the end. I think Assad's army is getting the most benefit out of our current efforts, so I imagine he wouldn't like it if we backed off (though I don't think he'd ever say that).
  3. I've said this before, but I believe it more every day. Our government has become nothing more than a corporate asset.
  4. Ghosts of Aleppo link: http://www.vice.com/vice-news/ghosts-of-aleppo-full-141
  5. It just keeps the anti-American sentiment alive there. But yeah, if I had to choose, I'd rather we were blamed for the deaths of people we had nothing to do with. At that point it's just their ignorance for not understanding how to actually hash out a society where everyone can get along reasonably well.Vice just published a series in the last week or so (though it was filmed about two months ago I believe) called Ghosts of Aleppo that paints a pretty good picture of just how f#%ked everything, and really, everyone is there. Even the "moderates" that we are trying to support there seem like extremists by any western standard. The conflict is super complex and everyone is one hundred percent convinced they are in the right. I have a feeling this won't end until everyone just gets tired of death. Who knows how long that will take.
  6. Hopefully true, but thirty years from now they'd still be blaming us for not stepping in to help.
  7. The only way to ensure that we don't kill civilians is not to bomb anything. We can try to avoid killing them, but mistakes will be and are inevitably made. It's sad of course, but that's just the way it's happened since the introduction of modern warfare.
  8. Simply impossible to avoid. Drones, bombers, cruise missiles, whatever... Innocent people always die. If we don't want that blood on our hands, then we shouldn't be involved at all. Then again, if we're not involved at all, lots of people there will blame our lack of action for the death of innocents. Damned if we do, damned if we don't.
  9. So a three way with two homeless chicks? Nice.
  10. He seemed better this year in the first week or so he'd come back from injuries... So this is perfect! #positivity
  11. I'm certain he'll consider the geography of any new location quite a bit. Anyone who starts a successful career in location-based advertising is gonna be very aware of reaching the maximum number of existing/potential new customers in an area.
  12. I'm with you on Ichiro being a great player, but he never had the power you suggest. His major league high for HRs is 15. He hit over 20 professionally twice (25 in '95 and 21 in '99).
  13. That was nuts. He pulled an Edmonds. Take a bad route to a ball then recover at the last minute to make a great play.
  14. I just think that humans often (if not usually) have the ability to think about and understand complex topics. In your story of the farmer, what would he think if ISIS had stormed a nearby town three weeks earlier and killed several people then raped his cousin? Is everyone now evil? Does his head explode because he can't figure out who to support?
  15. Ruralism doesn't necessarily prevent people from understanding complex situations.
  16. As of 2012, there were about 1.6 billion Muslims worldwide (23 percent of the world population) and 2.2 billion Christians (32 percent). http://www.pewforum.org/2012/12/18/global-religious-landscape-exec/
  17. I really like Angel Stadium itself, but I hate where it's located. Sure, freeway access is good, but there's not much to do right around the stadium. I wish we had a stadium/area combo like San Diego, Chicago (Cubs), or Baltimore.
  18. I judge all of you on your verb choices. Also, if you use the phrase "try and" as opposed to "try to" you basically become a terrorist in my book.
  19. Trout had his own little Jeterfest on Twitter tonight.
  20. I've gotta go Ruth, Gehrig, Mantle, Jeter, DiMaggio... In that order.
  21. It's tough to compare Jeter to a lot of players because of three things. First is his longevity. So the peak of certain careers versus his is hard to judge. Second is his position. Obviously, there's a certain standard for SS that isn't the same as 1B or RF or C. Third is simply the type of player he was. High average, low Ks, moderate power, decent speed. It's hard to compare the value of that to someone like a Mark McGwire or Adam Dunn. I will say this though. For most of his career he was an elite player overall, especially for his position. And I think that despite his mostly average defense, there were several years that I would have considered him the best all around SS in the game. And he won five rings. I know that's not all his doing, but it still has to hold some weight. I also truly believe that he's the most media-savvy athlete of the last 30 years. Bottom line, a very good player that accomplished a whole hell of a lot, and was sometimes the best at his position over a 19 year career. Not the best player of his generation by quite a bit, but a HOF caliber player no doubt.
  22. You people disgust me..... In the most wonderful way possible. Perhaps we just need a BM status report thread.
  23. With the built in off days, it's more feasible in the playoffs than it is now. I don't think we'll do it of course, but it definitely could be done.
