  1. A lot of them are Zoroastrian Yazidis too. They did this a few years back: http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stoning_of_Du'a_Khalil_Aswad I believe it's possible that the Middle East is just chock full of crazy extremists, and they use religion to justify their craziness. As in the religions were interpreted to accommodate the craziness, not the other way around.
  2. He needs his own thread for shutting the Dodgers down tonight. He threw a great game and deserves some reactionary excitement and GIF-ing.
  3. It's Baltimore. They're very strict about hours of operation at the low-rises.
  4. Juvenile Defenestration Legion, obviously.
  5. It's definitely possible that the US or Europe could end up seeing a few cases due to this, but it's not gonna spread like wildfire here. The problem in Western Africa is that the people there pretty much refuse to do any of the things necessary to contain the disease. It would be very different here.
  6. I think it was because of there being two outs. While hindsight is 20/20, I don't blame Scioscia for leaving him in.
  7. Well, crap. I thought Hamilton had hit that one out off the bat. Can't complain about Aybar though. He smoked that ball.
  8. Those are quality animals. If only we had one team with an owner who happened to get his start in the cocaine industry.
  9. I think they are doing what they should be doing. They'll have to do it again eventually too. That's the solution. For Israel, this is as good as it gets.
  10. If you want solutions, and you don't want the US involved, then the Israelis should relocate. It's really the only thing they could do to save themselves without western backing. It's not fair, and it's not a good thing, but Israel is never going to be safe while they're surrounded by a continent-sized area of the world that hates them. So really, there are only four possible long term outcomes: 1. Israel kills enough Arabs to destroy their will to fight the Israelis. 2. The Arabs kill enough Israelis to destroy their will to exist as a nation. 3. The Israelis eventually say "Screw it" and go somewhere else. 4. These sorts of "flare ups" continue indefinitely. So really, if you want the Israelis to to stay in Israel, and you don't want the Israelis to start the most ironic genocide campaign ever, what we have now is the best solution.
  11. I hope Josh spends the rest of this one on the bench. Seems like he has a bruised Give-a-Shit muscle.
  12. So, doesn't this guy deserve his own thread? You have to love his story, and it's awesome to see how he competes among the league's best this year. It's fun to follow a good team that runs into these unexpected gems.
  13. I highly doubt that anyone would be required to pay the subsidies back for two reasons. First, it'd simply be impossible for a lot of people to pay it back if they've been enrolled for two years or so. For your average unmarried, childless waiter, it'd probably be close to $3k. And if you're a single parent making $30-$35k a year, you'd be really screwed. Second, one of the best ways to sink an economy faster than the Titanic is to drop four or five figure bills on a huge chunk of the lower and middle class all at once.
  14. I didn't read the article, but I'm familiar with the story. I was just trying to find some humor in the idea that Kubrick might have intentionally thrown those references into his movies in order to start rumors about him being behind a fake moon landing. Like a really long, elaborate joke that would still be paying off decades later.
  15. Kennedy's BR page might as well just be a picture of two dice.
  16. We'd have him as an arbitration eligible guy for two years.
  17. This thread made more sense when I thought it was about Green Bay.
  18. I think just Cron would be enough. They're running out of humans that can play 1st in Arlington. Throw in Cron's years of club control, and that looks like a solid deal from the Texas perspective.
  19. Volstad: owner of a 6.21 ERA in the KBO this year. Which is in Korea.
  20. Well, I hope he doesn't actually pitch for us.
  21. I think professional baseball bullpens are some of the most beautifully depraved and disgusting collections of people on the planet.
  22. I watched The Place Beyond the Pines the other day. It could've been a decent movie, but they ruined it by making Bradley Cooper's son a caricature of some Bronx Italian circa 1982. It made zero sense. I was amazed that anyone thought that was a good idea.
