"Trout first in major league history with 5 HRs in one game as Angels fall to last place A's 17-12"

Doesn't surprise me at all that a guy like Arte is a terrible judge of character and that multiple big free agent signings have had issues with character and attitude (Hamilton, Pujols, Rendon)

I disagree.
What nobody realistically assessed with these $700 million figures was the longevity of doing both.
But if he is a DH. And maybe eventually an outfielder. What doesn't go away is the advertising revenue. Maybe i's not as much as it would have been, but it'll still be significant. The guy is still worth $400 million in this market and he wasn't getting $700 million.
A team with a marginally functional medical staff will recognize his value beyond 2024 and will pay him what he's worth
-
Maybe this will finally convince Arte to sell
jk Arte will hold onto the the team until he finally dies at 172 after his adrenochrome supply and pure spite isn't enough to keep him alive

Nevin still sucks though

So did Jo Adell. But that has taken a while for him to master.
We could stick Ohtani at C and he'd still be better than the guys we currently have within 20 games

Just so I'm clear, people are cool throwing hundreds of millions after a guy who in all likelihood will only be able to DH next season, in the hopes that he'll a) magically be able to effectively transition to an actual defensive position in the future, b) return to form as a starting pitcher after (most likely) a second TJ surgery, and/or c) be able to transition into a reliever who is magically able to warm up in between at bats. Do I have that right?
If we re-sign Ohtani, we'll win 68 games next year instead of 59. That's clearly worth it.

Astounding. They've lost like 25-30 reasonably winnable games with absolutely incessant unforced errors and mental midgetry

Do we think they'll at least split the doubleheader tomorrow?
Probably similar to the Rays doubleheader. Win one game by a run and then get blown out in the other game

I get the lefty/righty thing, but is it really necessary to pinch hit for Schanuel with Escobar? Just let the kid hit.
It's important to drive home the point that careless mistakes will not be tolerated on a team that makes them constantly

1 baserunner since the 5th inning meltdown is classic Angels

To be fair, the Angels haven’t taught Schanuel anything, and that’s probably why he’s on the team.
And yet, it's a plague that pervades every player. Like Giolito and his nearly 9 ERA since joining the team

Can't even make routine plays lol. First Adams and now this. Do they just not teach these guys defense or fundamentals at all?

Really poor from Trout and Ohtani
-
Schanuel following the standard Angels redemption arc and promptly striking out

If you don't like this, then you don't like Angels baseball
-
Eh, at least Arozarena's on my fantasy team
-
How is it that after the Adell mess that we call up another guy who can't make middle school level plays in the outfield? Like these guys aren't being coached and developed at all

Which position player do we get to see pitch in this one?
-
Major yikes. And these types of games have been happening like 3-4 times a week too
-
The Angels making a bunch of mental errors and collapsing? Who would have guessed? I'm sure Nevin will be very upset and the team totally won't do this again the very next game.

Going to tonight's game. Does anyone know who's pitching?
Sandoval I think.
Schanuel (and O'Hoppe & Neto)

They've been great. I do wonder about their ceiling and whether they can be middle of the order bats rather than complementary players, but it's not like that'll have any bearing on the team's success anyway
