wopphil reacted to Inside Pitch in Angels best under the radar FA signings?
Jose Guillen.
He was cheap the only season they had to pay him (2.2 Mil), he had a super solid season (122 OPS, 3.1 bWAR), and his outright douchebaggery led to 8 years of Macier Izturis (95 OPS+ 12.5 bWAR) and 6 years (107 OPS+ and 7.2 bWAR) of Juan Rivera.
Angels won big there all around.

wopphil reacted to Docwaukee in MLB Trade Rumors: Projected arbitration figures for the Angels
Walsh had a 126 wRC+ last year
This year through 70 games his wRC+ was 119
He tanked his next 50 games when he could barely swing a bat.
Over the past three seasons up until his injury he had 963 PA in 245 games and 127 wRC+
So we're gonna take the 15% of his last 3 seasons where he was injured and dump him to save 2mil?
And while I agree they should have a capable backup and/or someone who can platoon with him, but not giving him a chance to return to form is absurd.

wopphil got a reaction from Blarg in List of Worst AW posters
The "this is my first post on here" guy who writes a manifesto that would make the Unabomber blush, and does it all in a single paragraph.

wopphil reacted to arch stanton in Angels Breakout Player of 2022
Rengifo doing it at age 25 and Ward at 28 should be a reminder that it can take some time so we shouldn't give upon prospects so easily just because we follow them so closely from early ages. Adell, Rodriguez, Canning, can still become useful. Would be greet if it happens soon

I’m sure they will be awesome soldiers. Good thinking, Putin.

wopphil got a reaction from ten ocho recon scout in Ohtani or Judge as MVP?
I think Judge wins the award easy, but it’s amazing that Ohtani has more or less managed to replicate what he did last year (which is something I don’t think anyone expected).

It isn’t their fault the rigged election was stolen.

I think the goal is to save Ukraine and Moldova in the immediate future and to avoid all Russian aggression in Eastern Europe in the long term. A bonus, which I think is part of the plan, is the weakening of the Russian government to the point where the people or those below Putin remove him and Russia is brought back into the civilized world and not as a legitimate nuclear threat to the west.
Whether its worth it can be debated but don’t act you guys don’t know what the goal is here. And if there was a Republican in office you’d be guns blazing with yellow and blue flags waving in the wind off your pickups.

Looks like you guys need to vote harder in November than you did last time around.

wopphil got a reaction from Chuck in The Official 2022 Los Angeles Angels Minor League Stats, Reports & Scouting Thread
Paris had had a fantastic season. Near .800 OPS across two levels for which he has been quite young. Good on base skills. His strikeouts have been manageable. He has stayed healthy. And 32 stolen bases to boot. I’d assume he is a top 100-125 prospect.

And yet they would both probably be better options that Bernie, who would like to move that Delaware address to 1600 Pennsylvania.

Absolutely

wopphil reacted to 3pitchwalk in Jerry Dipoto strikes again:
baldoquin was signed in 2015 which means the angels were still capped out at 300k.
julio signed for 1.75mil.
dipoto's basically saying that julio was gonna sign with the angels for 300k but he decided to swoop in last minute at ~6 times that. yeah ok.

They have a solid foundation with Ohtani, Sandoval, Detmers and Suarez. But they need two more reliable arms, preferably 2/3 types (given that they can’t score runs).
They also need a first baseman, shortstop, left fielder, possibly right fielder, and a whole bullpen. Lots of work to do this off-season.
