  1. Why they got rid of those cinnamon rolls is beyond me. That was the very best part of going to a game.
  2. Hamilton was good for the second half of the season. His slash line from June 25 to the end of the season was .289/.347/.482/.829, which is pretty darn good for a left-handed hitter playing half his games in Anaheim.
  3. I think it is impossible to predict more than a few years into the future. Although we have a horrible farm and some aging players, the FO could decide tomorrow that its primary goal is stockpiling prospects, even if at the expense of the big league club. Were that to happen, this could be a franchise rich with prospect talent (plus the means to support a large payroll and no long term contracts other than Pujols) in just three years or so. In other words, any doomsday scenario could be reversed over just a few seasons and nobody should panic that it will be ten years before the team is competitive again.
  4. No. Hanson and Blanton were both wild cards. But guys like Vargas/Hudson are more reliable and consistent, even if they aren't spectacular.
  5. Good post Stradling. I think the bidding will get too high on Tanaka, and all the other options are just okay. Best strategy might me to get quality inning eaters (a guy or two like Vargas, not Blanton), and then work to get a lock down pen and hope the offense is a top 3.
  6. This might be true, but I think they will get old really quickly. I give them one more year, and then I bet they go the way of the Yankees and Phillies.
  7. The Cards organization is run better than any team in baseball. And like someone else said, they are in a position to be very good for the indefinite future.
  8. Does he feel bad for you when you have a rough day at work? And have you made $150 mil over your life? Feel bad for orphaned children, not rich athletes.
  9. I'd have rather him gone to another team. I viewed the White Sox as a possible trade partner for Trumbo, but I am guessing they will no longer have any interest.
  10. Yep. He has no track record of being any good. I don't see why he should be on the 40-man.
  11. I can't cast a stone here because if I was rich, famous, and single, I'd probably be doing the exact same thing (or "hitting triples" for that matter).
  12. What does Scioscia care if he gets fired? He is guaranteed $25 mil plus. If I were him, I would have gone to the "meetings" and said "do whatever you want with me, I won't be begging you to keep me around." Is anyone really surprised he "convinced" Arte to keep him?
  13. Doesn't lackey have to pitch for free next season anyway? Or a bunch of carrots?
  14. I wonder what the broads at the goat hill think. I bet he still can bag four at a time.
  15. Greinke's contract was absurd at the time, but it has worked out great for the Dodgers one-sixth of the way through.
  16. Yep, the guy is easily going to cost $100 mil between posting and contract. There are a lot of teams with money to spend right now, and unfortunately it doesn't seem like the Angels are one of those teams. The Yankees, in particular, have a ton of cash coming off the books this year, and can throw the bank at Tanaka and Cano and still have a lot of money left over.
  17. No way. Those guys are both really young and have at least four or five years of club control remaining. I am sure the White Sox would have interest in Trumbo, but who knows if they would even have an interest in Kendrick.
  18. The White Sox have two good young arms in Hector Santiago and Jose Quintana. And they desperately need offense. Although Trumbo alone definitely wouldn't get it done for either of those guys, perhaps Trumbo and/or Kendrick could form the centerpiece of a deal.
  19. Price isn't the type of guy we should be going after. We need cheap, club-controlled pitching.
  20. Arte sounds like a wonderful boss. Totally unwilling to look in the mirror. He should be happy Scioscia and Dipoto are willing to keep working for him.
  21. I agree with you guys about Bruxie. I thought their portions were really small and way overpriced. But they make a killing. I have heard they do $2,000,000 in yearly sales out of their Orange location. If you want good Mexican in Orange, try Los Cabos Restaurant on Tustin Avenue, just south of Collins. I think the side of the restaurant actually says "Mexican Restaurant" or "Mexican Food," but the place is called "Los Cable." It is great and reasonably priced. The Blue Frog in the circle is also good, especially if you want a chocolate crossaint. And for upper scale Italian, Francoli is good too.
  22. I really don't think there is any comparison between Trout and Cabrera, and it blows my mind how many people don't give any consideration whatsoever to defense and base running.
  23. If only two or three have big league careers lasting 5 years, the draft will still have been a success.
