  1. Bingo. Perfectly said. Arte’s odds of even being alive by the time Trout’s contract ends are no better than 50/50. Barring a catastrophic upcoming two weeks, he isn’t punting in a season where he is getting historical output from Ohtani, his superstar player is coming back from injury, and his pitching is showing some signs of improvement. This is a year to go for it if there are moves that can actually be made.
  2. I’d like to see where we are at in two weeks, but I wouldn’t be totally opposed to trading Adell for these two. If they can help us push for the playoffs this year, and still be around next year, it might be worth the gamble (plus Gallo would be a QO candidate).
  3. Did you get J&J? I got it, and am debating whether it makes sense to now go get a Pfizer shot.
  4. Heaney’s peripherals are much better than his ERA would indicate and he has been relatively healthy. He also strikes me as a guy who might not look to extract top dollar. If you can bring him back for something like 3/21, I’d be all for it.
  5. If I were Perry, I’d make extension offers to both Iglesiases, Cobb, and Heaney before considering trading any of them.
  6. Ha, I almost mentioned Jacoby & Myers as well (I always thought it was Jacobian Myers). I am amazed at how much these personal injury attorneys advertise. I heard Sweet James drops over a million a month on advertising. Funny story that fits here: years ago, when I did PI defense, I was attending a truck inspection with a senior partner of Larry Parker’s office. Nice guy, very gregarious. We started discussing the firm commercials, and the guy on the motorcycle. You might recall, the initial commercial was just the guy’s face, but years later they did a second commercial that panned out and got his whole body. So we are talking about the commercial, and I finally said “so Jeff, that second commercial you guys did…was it to…” And he cuts me off mid-sentence: “…quash the rumors that he had no arms or legs? ABSOLUTELY.” I got a good laugh out of it. They were obviously well aware of their reputation (and I don’t think he cared when he drove away in his BMW 6 series convertible).
  7. My wife literally said this exact same thing to me last week (“I thought it was Jacob and Ronny?”).
  8. This team has a $200 million dollar payroll, the two best players in baseball, and a new GM who is likely anxious to prove himself. Unless they bomb the next few weeks, they aren’t selling. And they shouldn’t sell - there is enough talent on the team to get to the playoffs. I would love to see a trade for Marquez or Berrios, as well as a good relief arm. That, combined with Trout coming back (as well as hopefully Upton and Rendon), and this team could be quite good.
  9. I am all for throwing the book at Bauer if it is determined that he engaged in non-consensual violence toward this woman. And I fully expect MLB will make an example of him if they conclude that is what he did. But how about letting the investigation be completed and Bauer having a chance to tell his side of the story before presuming guilt. It is entirely possible he did nothing wrong (other than exercise horrific judgment).
  10. I’ll cut you guys some slack. Every time I go to INO, I customize the shit out of my order. And they never, ever screw it up. Ever. Chic-fil-a, by contrast, makes a mistake probably 20-30 percent of the time, and McDonald’s is well over 50-60 percent (McDonalds literally put a chicken patty into the sausage biscuit I ordered last week; I didn’t even know they cooked those chicken patties that early).
  11. As of 11:45 a.m. yesterday, the District INO was all out of sugar packets. @StradlingHow does that happen?
  12. Buy. F-it. There are only so many years that Trout and Ohtani will be in their primes. Get at least one good starter and two relief arms. This team can win at a .600+ clip with merely average pitching.
  13. Why doesn’t Kochanowicz strike out anyone? Vera’s swing looks incredibly quick and simple. Great to see.
  14. Cobb and Heaney have both been better than their primary stats indicate. Both should be considered as longer term rotation options if the price is right. I think my ideal off-season would include re-signing both of these guys and bringing in Scherzer as well. That would create a potentially formidable rotation.
  15. If he stays healthy this whole year, you have to offer him a huge contract. He is the most exciting player in baseball, and highly marketable as well. He is probably easily worth a Betts or Lindor-type deal (i.e., $340 mil over ten years). Not sure the Angels can afford that with Trout and Rendon already accounting for $75 mil annually.
  16. He is giving up a home run like every fourth inning. Until he gets that under control, he won’t be that effective.
  17. I don’t expect Sandoval to continue what he has been doing, but these are fantastic numbers regardless. I think the other guys are capable of pitching like this going forward.
  18. They need another good starter too. I think they are a Kyle Gibson type starter and two strong pen arms away from contending for the division.
  19. When I looked up Ward a few days ago, he was slashing something like .310./.390./.595/.985 across his previous 100 plate appearances. He has filled in quite capably for Trout.
  20. I like what Maddon has done with the lineup this year, as well as shuffling the position players across various positions and spreading out playing time. He is making these guys much more versatile and inter-changeable.
  21. I actually think that re-signing Heaney - at a deal along these lines - is probably going to be one of the team’s highest priorities the next few six months. I also think Cobb is a strong possibility to come back. From there, you only need one more good starter, and should have the money to get one (of course, that still leaves an entire bullpen to be addressed).
  22. Agree. I’d have no objection to an Adell for Marquez trade. Helps us this year and beyond.
  23. Gotta wonder if Barria gets a chance with Bundy’s latest disaster. He can’t be worse.
  24. This is really concerning. Especially since you can assume teams are trying to pitch around him given his power. It’s almost like he is going out of his way not to walk.
  25. I was thinking about this just a day or two ago. If Adell could be the main piece in a Marquez trade, you have to think about pulling the trigger. And it isn’t totally unrealistic either. Marquez Is having a solid but not great year, he isn’t exactly cheap the next few years, and the Rockies suck. The Rockies and Angels would seemingly line up on a trade like this.
