Roster question: why would the team move Fowler to the 60 day DL rather than release him? If he is never again going to play a game for the Angels, what is the benefit to keeping him in the organization?

A Week in Review: Inside the Numbers

His power is absurd. The ball he hit last night...good God. And he did it off balance. He goes to right field with ease too. The power certain seems like it is here to stay. He will just need to be able to walk enough even when the scouting reports catch up and the batting average and contact rates inevitably go down. This lineup has the potential to be good for a long time. Just imagine if we strike gold on Marsh and/or Adell. -

I am now concerned about Upton as well. I am a big fan of his and see no reason why there shouldn’t still be plenty left in the tank. But his swing and miss tendencies are concerning. -

Walsh might be the most intriguing guy on the team. He is hitting like a legit MOTO guy, and it doesn’t appear to be a complete fluke. His at bats are great, his plate discipline is great, and he incredibly strong. While I wouldn’t expect him to be a 1.000 OPS guy, I don’t think something in the .850 range is unrealistic. -

I think we played the White Sox well. All four games could have gone either way. Good teams fight each other hard and keep things close, as both teams did in that series. Were we to play them in another four game series, I’d expect similar competition (though perhaps slightly different results). -

The offense is firing on about three cylinders - Trout, Walsh and Ohtani. Rendon has been terrible, and Fletcher, Iglesias and Upton should all improve. The offense definitely has the potential to get better. -
Gameday Thread: Angels vs. White Sox (4-3-2021)

Personally, I think the White Sox are easily the best team in the AL. The fact that the Angels have played to their level and kept their offense in check in 2 of the 3 games is very encouraging. -

This is a good point. The White Sox are beyond stacked. Let’s win at least one more and at least split the series. That would be a very acceptable outcome. -
This. Sounds like the same problem I had with a Toyota Camry I used to own. In ten years, the only problem the car ever had was the door actuators. I think three of them failed over time. This sounds like the same problem.

Francisco Lindor signs monster extension (10 years, $341 million)

Such an over-pay. He is a good player, but arguably the most over-rated in baseball. -
Angels sign Steve Cishek and Tony Watson (1 year, $1 million a piece)

I like these moves. Gotta believe at least one of these guys proves to be decent. -
Angels return Rule 5 pick Jose Alberto Rivera back to the Astros

Is he really *that* good? His numbers were solid, but nothing that screams “can’t miss.” Isn’t it just as likely this guy goes the way of Jose Arredondo? -

What a horrible contract. -
Do the Angels really have 'no pitching'?
wopphil replied to sammyscioscia's topic in LA Angels | MLB Daily
If healthy, the Angels have a very competent rotation. They have six guys who, collectively, should be able to give them league average innings. And it isn’t hard to envision a scenario where some or even most of those guys are better than league average. The bullpen is another story, but I guess more easily fixable during the season. -

I had four jobs in college: worked the front desk at the dorm, worked security, worked for my dad’s business (summers), and worked at a restaurant as a waiter. One job in law school - a firm I clerked for. After law school, I went law firm (1 year), family business (15 months), law firm (14 months), law firm (5 months), law firm (4.5 years), law firm (1.5 years) and law firm (5.5 years; current employer).

Correct regarding the co-morbidities and the fact that they aren’t permitted to ask questions. I think if you get an appointment, you are all good. My experience was that the process was incredibly efficient and timely. Unlike anything you have ever seen from the government before. My appointment was at 8:00 a.m. I went through all the pre-vaccination stuff and had the shot in my arm by about 8:02. My wife went to a different site that was a bit busier, but also got her shot within minutes of her appointment time.

Good assessment. I saw only Ohtani’s first inning, and his off speed stuff looked filthy. The hitters had no clue. The command wasn’t there, but that will improve once Ohtani gets more reps. If he is throwing 100mph and his arm feels fine, then I see nothing at all to worry about.

Jose Quintana could end up being a really nice pickup.
wopphil replied to tdawg87's topic in LA Angels | MLB Daily
Agreed. It’s really a matter of eliminating the terrible starts from guys like Suarez, Peters, etc. If we can get 4.00 ERA production from the top six guys, while throwing a lot of innings, the pitching staff will be drastically improved. -

I was the biggest proponent on here for signing Quintana. I just wish it had been a multi year deal rather than a one year deal.
