My guess is if Arte wants Lester or Scherzer then he will spend the money to get one of those guys, regardless to what it does to the luxury cap. Those are both the kind of pitchers you go after regardless of the tax. In my opinion we should go after one of those guys whether we win it all or not, because this team can still be good for a few years, but will always need good to great starting pitching.

Hey Guys.  This is David, Matt's Dad.  Thank you for the kind words and the laughs.  I have been on the board for quite some time, but do not write too many comments. Just to clear a couple of things up.  My wife, Karen, Matt's Mom does not have a beard.  HaHa  I do not have a full beard now but did a few years ago. Just a mustache and goatee now.  Thanks for supporting Matt.  He is a great young man who has worked his butt off to get to where he is at.  I am so glad he was finally given the chance to help this team.  We are so blessed that he has performed the way he has.  He will give you every thing he has each time he pitches.  I hope it continues. GO ANGELS!

After their mini hot streak the Athetics are playing .375 in their last 8 games.  More in line with expectations.
 
i feel like baseless optimism and pessimism are both equally trivial and boring...

Really don't see what most of what you just said there has to do with anything being discussed here.
 
I don't care whether you're a surefire HOFer or some AAAA guy up for a week, bat flipping on a flyout is gonna look stupid.
 
And I don't care whether it's your 1st home run or your 601st, if you crush one, you should be able to flip the shit out of that bat.

this has the feeling of one of those defining series. yadda yadda every game is the same as every other games, which is totally true for teams made of unfeeling robots. still, this series will largely define how our kids (richards skaggs) hold up under pressure. they put up some good fights, and we can easily win 2/3, solidifying us as at least a contender. they crumple? we'll have to fight to not get swept. i'm going with taking 2/3, tying the standings just before (hopefully) hamilton comes back.
 
that being said...oakland is cooling off fast. lets sweep their sorry asses and show them who is the best in the west. go halos!

freese has been doing fine recently- hitting about 350 in the last 4 games (sample size, but he appears to be getting his timing back).

cj will forever be the weirdest pitcher to watch. constantly feels like he's barely in control, getting hit around, but like...ends up putting up weirdly good numbers. he's like a supernaturally lucky crappy pitcher.
