MacNasty reacted to Docwaukee in Angels' Adell makes mid-season Top-100 Prospects list
Thaiss went for 500k below slot. Rutherford went for 840k over slot. Rutherford was old for a high school guy. Not that he's old for A ball at age 20 right now, but he's got a wRC+ of 106. Angels probably don't draft Marsh if they don't take Thaiss.
Long way to go with all these guys.

MacNasty reacted to Chuck in Angels' Adell makes mid-season Top-100 Prospects list
I think the point IP was making is we had a major in with Vlad Sr. and his son, Jr., used to hang around the ballpark and with Arte and gang all the time. Dipoto blew his wad on some lite hitting middle infielder that nobody ranked highly at all rather than saving $$$ to sign someone who was very close to the team, in fact, grew up watching his dad play for the Angels in Orange County.
Dumb Dumb Dipoto.

MacNasty reacted to gurn67 in AngelsWin.com Today: The Scioscia Era – Where did it go wrong?
Since Stoneman left, every GM has had ZERO previous experience as a GM. There have been plenty of proven GM's available during that time at a tiny fraction of the cost of what Arte has shelled out to Wells, Pujols, Hamilton, etc...

MacNasty reacted to Docwaukee in I'm going negative....
I just can't think like that and never will. Our mistakes of recent past are well documented. Yes, those sting, and I agree we are headed in the right direction.
I am referring more to poor on field performance for no particular reason. Just a bunch of dudes consistently under performing

MacNasty got a reaction from Troll Daddy in Our offense sucks
It's still about the pitching. If the pitching can give them enough good outings they'll be in the division mix. If not, well, gonna have to put up a new picture of the fat man on my dartboard.

His body of work in a difficult situation in Tampa pretty much speaks for itself.

MacNasty got a reaction from elixir in Joe Maddon
Yeah man. Joe Maddon is why we won that championship. He was what made that staff special, not the man running it. For years I was all over the fat guy's nuts, but not any more.
It's time to go get a great young manager who can bring energy to this team and make the staff around him better. Hopefully we have a GM who can restack it right.

MacNasty got a reaction from Angel Oracle in The Official Los Angeles Angels 2016 MLB Draft Thread
We gonna call him the Imp?

MacNasty reacted to wopphil in Angels going after Zobrist and Shields
Another thing that has to be considered is this: if signing Shields would buy you another season of Tropeano and Heaney by delaying their MLB clocks, the cost to get Shields goes down that much more.

MacNasty got a reaction from Angel Oracle in The Official Los Angeles Angels 2016 MLB Draft Thread
I think this question relates to what we're seeing in this draft. New GM prioritizing hitters with a certain range of tendencies, i.e. good plate discipline and ability to put the ball in play. Seems like your answer is there, at least from Eppler's perspective.
I like it too, for the record. If I were stacking an org, I'd favor coaching up those raw kids myself, and if I had concerns about my coaching staffs with those minor league teams producing disciplined hitters I'd favor those tendencies in the draft.
Seems like how Eppler's leaning at least from my arm chair.

I think the Angels see him as a quick riser through the minors who can play LF. Hard out which will play nice with Trouty. Dude has a lot of pop in that bat and sees a lot of pitches, definitely a very dangerous hitter.

MacNasty reacted to AngelsLakersFan in Richards not getting TJS. Opts for rehab
The real risk is that he comes back "sort of healthier." Most guys who opt to avoid surgery come back with diminished performance, where as most guys who have the surgery come back at 100% or maybe even a little better. It's a tough call either way.

MacNasty reacted to JarsOfClay in Kaleb Cowart is on fire!
Um, Cowart is the 3b of the future, you dont compensate Escobar for him.
Plus you improve your defense tremendously by keeping Cowart at 3rd, it's really a no brainer.
