I’m not gonna buy into the Teodosio hype yet - still no walks and a lot of strikeouts - but he’s definitely setting himself up to be a good 4th/5th OF depth chart guy, and with the way our farm has been, even producing league average role-player depth on the margins is a big win, so I’m hoping that is what’s happening. Has to be making Jordyn Adams sweat a bit.

Juan Flores gonna make us forget Edgar Quero.
Also have a good feeling about Randy DeJesus and Anthony Scull.
I haven’t been as engrossed with the farm the last couple of years. It wasn’t that interesting. It was approaching Dipoto-era levels of bad, but this year is already grabbing my attention a lot more.

I thought his breakout would happen last year, and it didn’t. Maybe it’s now. Dude is gonna be a fringe #1, very good #2 just a matter of when. He has looked great.
The extra velocity he added to his fastball since he was drafted was the missing piece, he just needed to figure out how to get hitters out in the bigs and it just takes experience. He’d have games prior to this year where he’d use all his bullets and be taxed by the 5th inning, and then he’d have times where he wouldn’t put hitters away. He needed to find that balance and I think he might have figured it out.

He might be a contact on-base machine with plus speed and defense, and should grow into a little bit of power. More gap power and maybe low double-digit HRs on a good year.
Almost 1:1 BB to K ratio at 17 in full-season stateside ball is wildly impressive. Even a Ben Revere/Juan Pierre-type profile is in reach and a win for the team, it’s not his fault one of our top 2-3 prospects is that type of player.
I’m hoping for a Steven Kwan-type outcome. 5’9”, 170 pounds…but still hit 36 doubles, 7 triples, 5 HR last year. Stole 21 of 24. Walked 70 times against 75 whiffs. A .268 BA led to only a league average OPS but still pulled in 3.6 bWAR. Him and a realized Schanuel ahead of Trout would be potent. And he could be here by next year.
Neto at 9, Rada, Schanuel, Trout, maybe Ward, O’Hoppe…that’s a good #9-#5 to build around.

Hah, I was pilloried for suggesting the Angels add some semi-expendable 1B depth and start Schanuel in AAA all winter.
I think he’s ready for MLB growing pains but spending a month in AAA working on things, feasting on thin air, working on a few things mechanically and perhaps picking up a few OF innings would bode him well for the long-haul.
Belt is still available. And I still like Sano despite his rough last couple games.
Guys like Kendrick and Aybar got AAA reboots in their initial seasons too. It’s not a knock on Schanuel or his MLB readiness. I can’t remember exactly but Trout either started in AAA after his first season, or returned from a brief injury straight to MLB.

totdprods got a reaction from Angelsjunky in Interesting tidbit about Trout & solo HR
Trout has a lot of seasons that feel like that…
2015, 159 games = 41 HR, 90 RBI 2017, 114 games = 33 HR, 72 RBI (would’ve looked better over a full season though) 2018, 140 games = 39 HR, 79 RBI (the craziest to me) 2022, 119 games = 40 HR, 80 RBI Even last year’s 18 HR, 44 RBI was a little wild. So frustrating to think what might have been without injuries and the COVID-shortened year.
Goes to show that for opposing teams, it’s not a huge loss to risk allowing a solo shot to a guy like Trout or Ohtani here and there rather than letting them consistently start rallies, and the lack of lineup support. Almost easier to just groove a fastball and give up a run and go after the others. I think that was a big part of Weaver’s approach on mound his last couple of seasons…risk allowing 2-3 solo HRs every game (at most) and hope the offense picks up more than that.

totdprods reacted to Duren, Duren in OC Register: Angels’ Anthony Rendon ‘loves’ the opportunity to hit leadoff
Sometimes you have to hit rock bottom before getting a severe reality check. With all the negativity and scorn he's been bombarded with maybe he's finally become determined to get his career back on track.
Hopefully Rendon has put the past behind and can focus on the present. Just the day to day baseball routine.
I think expectations at this point are just for a decent, competent season. And no big injuries. No one expects him to recapture his all star form. But if he can be productive at a solid pace in his role it should be a positive for the team. Double digit homers maybe though his power seems reduced  so far. More walks than Ks. A return of"Tony Two Bags" in a more modest form. And at least average play in the field.

totdprods got a reaction from Angel Oracle in Why isn't Jo Adell getting more playing time?
It seems a little counterintuitive but it makes sense to give Sano and Hicks initial playing time. If they have anything left in the tank still, it will help the Angels slim competition hopes if they’re performing and the team is deeper, and it musters up a little trade value for them.
If both are sucking after 100-150 PA come late April or early May, easy to cut them and give that playing time to kids. Plenty of runway left for Adell, Moniak, etc. from that point on still.
Same for Cisnero, Garcia, Cimber over Joyce, Mederos, etc.

Sano's peripherals this year are very similar to where they were when he hit 34 bombs in Minn.  Dude has been extremely unlucky but if he keeps doing what he has been he's going to have a much better year than anyone believed he would.
His Baseball Savant data is nuts.

Baltimore is so good that this is what the guys who didn’t make the team are doing…

as such I’m not gonna put a lot of stock into those first two games against Baltimore, and against the last three games against a winless team. Or any 6 games. But anybody who was throwing in the towel after the first two games truly doesn’t get how good that Baltimore team is. Astros 2.0.
