  1. Incredibly, that was one of Angle's GOP primary opponents, Sue Lowden, who said that. The Republicans really rolled out the stupid and fluked Searchlight Harry right back to Washington. Talk about snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. Article on Lowden's statement about bartering for health care
  2. Just a genetic aberration, like this blue lobster caught off the northeast coast of the US.
  3. No team is going to want to be obligated to pay him when he is 40.
  4. It had nothing to do with that, honestly. Harry Reid was essentially beaten regardless of his opponent until the Tea Party hijacked the GOP primary and advanced a woman so psychotic that even staunch Republicans couldn't stomach her. Sharron Angle lost her home county, and she lost counties that always vote Republican. Some wisdom from the one and only Ms. Angle, as only she can tell it: "We need to phase Medicare and Social Security out." "I hope that's not where we're going, but you know if this Congress keeps going the way it is, people are really looking toward those Second Amendment remedies and saying my goodness what can we do to turn this country around? I'll tell you the first thing we need to do is take Harry Reid out." (Angle advocates killing her political opponent, literally) "People ask me, 'What are you going to do to develop jobs in your state?' Well, that's not my job as a U.S. senator." (Just what voters in the state with the nation's highest unemployment rate wanted to hear from a candidate for one of their US Senate seats) "We needed to have the press be our friend ... We wanted them to ask the questions we want to answer so that they report the news the way we want it to be reported." (Not surprisingly, this was during an interview with Fox News) "You can make more money on unemployment than you can going down and getting one of those jobs that is an honest job, but it doesn't pay as much. And so that's what's happened to us is that we have put in so much entitlement into our government that we really have spoiled our citizenry and said you don't want the jobs that are available." "So that's what we want is a secure and sovereign nation and, you know, I don't know that all of you are Latino. Some of you look a little more Asian to me. I don't know that. What we know, what we know about ourselves is that we are a melting pot in this country. My grandchildren are evidence of that. I'm evidence of that. I've been called the first Asian legislator in our Nevada State Assembly." (Angle telling Latinos that some of them look Asian, which endeared her to minority voters) "When I said privatize, that's what I meant. That I thought we would just have to go to the private sector for a template on how this is supposed to be done. However, I've since been studying and Chile has done this." (Explaining replacing Social Security with a model advanced by a Chilean dictator) "Government shouldn't be doing that to a private company. And I think you named it clearly: It's a slush fund." (Angle telling people what a travesty it was for the federal government to hold BP financially accountable for the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico)
  5. It blows me away that the GOP is losing elections to beatable candidates because of their extreme positions on several issues, yet they are continuing to listen to people who aspire to push them even farther away from the opinions of a majority of the people.
  6. Somehow I pictured the personal services part of his contract as being a little different.
  7. Berkman only played one year for Texas while Young played there for 13 seasons.
  8. There are certainly far worse options on the GOP side. I'm sure they will select one of them by November 2016. These Tea Party nutjobs seem to be pushing the party so far to the right that they will have no prayer of ever winning a national election.
  9. Had water standing on the patio when I got up this morning. Must have gotten a decent dousing. Yesterday, 60 MPH winds - great when you have a pool and all the trees are shedding leaves.
  10. It also keeps teams from playing you just to get a better offer from someone else. I was lukewarm at best on Garza, not that upset he wound up in Milwaukee.
  11. I'm assuming that the celebrity will be his opponent, because all Zimmerman has done is get arrested. If everybody who goes to jail is a celebrity, I can go down to the Clark County Detention Center and fill their fight card for as long as they want to run the series.
  12. Agreed. Saying nothing now means less that can be spun and thrown back in your face later.
  13. I believe that there is more than one name on that particular list. Start with anyone who has HOUSTON across the front of the jersey, and move forward from there.
  14. Kendrys at this point is a one-dimensional player. He has no speed or mobility but he can hit. How a guy like that can turn down a guaranteed $14M+ is beyond me. Not like there isn't a glut of guys like that out there. He rolled the dice and he lost - which pretty much anyone here could have predicted.
  15. All the Seattle sports talk I've heard this week has been about the Sounders.
  16. Being paid $21M to sit idle. What a gig.
  17. Grover has been signed to a minor league deal with an invitation to spring training. Pitching depth.
  18. Half the guys on this board would be better depth options than Blanton.
  19. During the years when I followed the Braves more closely than I do now, Bobby Cox used to drive me nuts. His main faults (at least to me): Hanging with his starting pitchers for too long and constantly playing veterans when there were better young players on the bench. Cox is about to be inducted at Cooperstown, so it seems to have turned out OK for him. Now, just don't get me started on John Schuerholz...
