disarcina got a reaction from HaloBronco in Netflix documentary -- "Facing Nolan'
Perhaps old news - but I just saw it on NetFlix - get documentary -- our pal (formerly. Pinetar here - Rob Goldman - author of "when they  were Angels' and also a book about. Nolan Ryan is in the documentary quite. a bit - talking about his. days as an Angels bat boy and about watching Nolan Ryan    Anyway, it's a great documentary about one of. MLB's greatest pitchers of all time,
It talks about Ryan's Texas roots -- and the documentary made me more understanding why it's OK for Nolan Ryan to be wearing a. Texas cap in the HOF -- even if his best seasons and best stats. were during his Angels years --  although. - as the documentary points out -- Ryan had some great stats from age 35 to almost 44. and pitched as well during those years than almost any time of his. career.
    I. really enjoyed the documentary  --everybody here probably watched it long ago.

In 2006 I was working on a project in Dallas.  Fortunately there was another guy on the project that was an Angels fan.  When he found out I was also a fan he asked if I spent any time on the Angelswin site.  I had never heard of it.  I am very thankful that he told me about AW.
I recall that one of the topics he and I discussed was the future of Howie Kendrick.

My son doing some of these graphics kind of speaks to the life moments everyone has shared together on this website.  Chase is 15, so we were only 5 year into the AW journey when he was born.  That he's now contributing to the AngelsWin by doing graphics with the other guys is just crazy to me ... but I love it!

Here's all them if you wish to share them on social media or elsewhere. We are definitely going to do t-shirts too!

20 years! AngelsWin.com turned 20 years old in 2024! For many of us that joined Chuck Richter on this adventure back at the beginning, it hardly seems possible.  It’s truly one of those, “wait … how old am I?” moments.
Many of the everyday staples of modern life, things that feel like they’ve been around forever, actually came to be after AngelsWin. Things like: the iPhone, Facebook, X/Twitter, TikTok, SnapChat, Instagram, Smashburger, Barstool Sports internet platform, even Taylor Swift albums.
After relocating from Orange County to the Pacific Northwest (now in Tennessee), Chuck launched the website as a way for Angels fans around the country and around the world to stay connected to the team and sport they loved, and to discuss topics that related to both. As the AngelsWin membership numbers grew, so did the sense that something special was happening. It became a real community. Maybe not quite a family, but it often has felt that way.
We’ve seen both the best and hardest parts of life and have experienced it all together. Marriages, divorces, births of children, deaths of friends and family, the excitement of new career advancements and the pain of job losses. For 20 years, we’ve gone through it all … together.
But the throughline, the connected tissue, for it all has always been the team in red. The boys of summer. It’s always been about the Angels.
What started out as a simple Angels message board & blog page grew into a news and reporting outlet. We were one of the first independent fansites to be awarded a Major League Baseball media credential by the Angels. Correspondences from AngelsWin have participated in team events and press conferences such as the introduction of Albert Pujols, the contract extension for Mike Trout and the welcoming Shohei Ohtani. Over the years, the site has been recognized by Forbes, Fox Sports, ESPN, CNN, MLB Network, Japan Times, Washington Post, MLB Trade Rumors, the Orange County Register, LA Times and the Angels tv and radio broadcasts for our reporting and insights. Members of the AngelsWin writing staff were also instrumental in, and recognized for, providing content for the organization’s  “Under the Halo: The Official History of Angels Baseball” book.
We’ve hosted many fan events, including Spring and Summer Fanfests where we’ve welcomed such guests as Arte Moreno, Tim Salmon, Don Baylor, Wally Joyner, Kole Calhoun, Matt Shoemaker, Hector Santiago, Randal Grichuk, Jerome Williams, ex-GM Jerry Dipoto, Dennis Kuhl, Victor Rojas, Jose Mota, Terry Smith, Rex Hudler, Steve Physioc and Tim Mead.
In 2023, Chuck and Geoff Stoddart relaunched the AngelsWin Podcast. This time around, they were joined by former Angels broadcaster, Victor Rojas. 27 episodes in (as of the writing of this piece), the podcast has enjoyed wild success, with tens of thousands of views on YouTube and tens of thousands more downloads on platforms like Spotify, iTunes and iHeart.
It has been, and continues to be, a wild journey. Whether you’ve been with us for 20 years or 20 minutes, we thank you! In the end, we are a sum of our part. The sum of our people.
AngelsWin.com is “The internet home for Angels fans worldwide” – where fans can cheer, boo, argue, laugh, complain and discuss the team and sport they love.
Here’s to 20 great years and the hope of another 20 more.  Go Angels!

disarcina got a reaction from Amazing Larry in Bobby Valentine: Perry was set to trade Ohtani at deadline, Arte stopped him
I really felt he was Los Angeles Dodgers bound for at least a year now, if not longer.
He should have been dealt at deadline time to a team that could have competed with the Dodgers to sign him long term.
We would have gotten some top notch pitching prospects and the team that acquired him (Yankees, Seattle, SF ?) would have gotten not only a very valuable player for the stretch run -- but also two plus months to convince Ohtani to sign with them instead of Los Angeles.
I said that then back before deadline - so no Monday morning quarterbacking here.

    this NEWS JUST IN.
A bunch of us have been saying. here for about. a year now that Ohtani would be a Dodger in 2024.
the only question was - how much.  $700 million about $200 million more. than I expected
I felt then and feel now that we should have traded Ohtani for pitching at the deadline played the Dodgers off the Yankees, maybe Giants -who-ever the Dodgers biggest competition was to signing Ohtani (I would have never guessed Toronto. They weren't even on the.  radar until  ten days ago). You. could have gotten any of. those teams to way over pay for an. Ohtani rental for the stretch run/ playoff (Dodgers could have used  him but he wasn't pitching - even back then at deadline  time) plus had a leg up to talking to him and signing long term.
Oh. well, water under the bridge,.
The real prize in FA. this off season has. yet to sign - Yamamoto the. Japanese. starting pitcher. -- may be a better. FA for 2024 then. Ohtani -  limited to DH

another question about this -- did y'all see the Dodger website posting. -- and I mean the team site posting its own story not some random poster and not  the. MLB.com site "plane to Toronto' guy -- the. Dodgers PR dept. put out a story Friday night that the Dodgers. were OUT and that Ohtani was entertaining an offer from Toronto.
I saw that - folks forwarded it all over the place - and immediately thought  it was a Dodger head fake - perhaps demanded by Ohtani's people to make up for Manager Roberts' comments earlier in the. week that Ohtani took exception to. -- remember - this is a weird FA negotiation - the player wants NO NEWS OUT, NO LEAKS - and Roberts' comments violated Ohtani's rule -- and Ohtani's way of enforcement is - if you leak news of any sort - I'm not signing with you.

So - if it was FAKE NEWS generated by the. Dodgers PR office  - should the commissioner's office. take action? Or is this the start of FAKE NEWS being generated by teams to impact FA market?
Boras and. other agents. used this tactic - send out news that teams A, B and C are expressing interest in his client so that Boras can pressure team D.

Just hoping he can play a full season -- at least 150 games.  If he does, he will hit about .285, 35 HRs - 105 RBI and I'd like to see him steal Moree bases (20 on the season would be nice) but that's probably not happening.

Baseball and the MLB media have no one to blame but themselves... the foam at the mouth constantly talking about the same teams while ignoring the bulk of the league so when the also rans have success they generated no interest in them.
MLB network might as well be YES 2 most of the time when it should be going out of its way to talk about the entire league.. but that doesnt help their ratings, and thats all that matters even when they shoot themselves in the foot

Yep. The powers that be are still making billions of dollars, so there's very little incentive to change the system until it collapses on its own.
