If I were a consultant to Moreno and he told me he wanted to win, clean up his own image, and also retain ownership, I would advise him to simply hire Epstein and give the guy as much control over the club as anyone other than an owner could possibly have, with the arrangement being Epstein aggressively earns equity in the team for postseason appearances, pennants, and rings.
I love the idea of this. Unfortunately I can't see Arte doing it.

then there is the matter of what he will cost. Given that Arte isnt leaving, and there is virtually no chance he will ever break the tax, do we really wnt to be holding a 500M contract. We will have even less flexibility to make moves or improve than we do now.
TLDR but this

I know, small sample size and all but, are we all certain that Soto isn't going to be on the ML roster on opening day?
Trade Rengifo while his value is (likely) peaking?

If the team is in better shape and drawing more fans, that would affect the sales price.
The sale price will be likely be decided before next years win loss record can affect it. Not saying the sale will be complete, but a deal will be in place (hopefully).

Loup is horrific. And while I knew he’d never replicate his performance from last season, I never thought he’d be this bad. I’d be thrilled if I never saw his fat face and shitty country music walk up music again.
With him it’s either he completely sucks or does OKAY —zero consistency.
100% agreed and fixed.

It seems weird to me that I'm far more familiar with the AA roster than the AAA roster.

With all the roster turnover the past, what, 7 years or so(?), you see names you've completely forgotten about. And if these were never bumped, you'd never have remembered them.
This thread is only 3 years old, and there's a few names mentioned of "oh yeah, forgot about that guy"
Justin Bour. Best thing about Bour was that he didn't wear batting gloves.
What a parade of garbage this team has run through in the last decade.

There is a balance between "people stuff" and math.
Been saying this for lase several years. I like the info (Math) that we now have available but sometimes you just gotta go with the "eye test" and feel.

I'm sort of joking with the Judge pick, but the way Arte operates, I'm not totally joking. Even though he's selling the team, he may go for it one more time.
It's far more likely Adell or Calabrese, Moniak or Adams in CF and Trout in Left, Ward in RF.
Thank you for clarifying

He has played himself out of the league.
Move on.

@Angelsjunky Well done as always. Gonna be an interesting few years no matter what!

If all that happens, we can compete for a WC spot.
Wash. Rinse. Repeat.
As has been said, we NEED proven major leaguers. Not a bunch of "IF's".... "if he plays to his potential, if he stays healthy". I realize there's not much you can do to control health, but you can certainly do better than Wade, Velasquez, Duffy, and, excuse me while I throw up in my mouth, ... Suzuki. The list goes on.
Trout's gonna get hurt. Rendon's gonna get hurt. SIGN COMPETENT BACK UPS!!!!!

Who's to say Trout adapts to LF any better than Adell in this theoretical exercise?
Not arguing or saying he wouldn't but who knows?

I'm guessing a deal with someone will be finalized by October.
Hopefully in time for direction for the 2022/23 off season.
Not a chance. My guess is 6 months to a year.

TLDR...
Personally, I could care less about the current (Ohtani/Trout, etc...) as long as someone (or preferably a group) comes in and invests in the long term so that we can contend annually. Championships are hard, I get it. But at least be competitive. No more "shiny objects" unless it comes with a well-run infrastructure to support.

Is Theo Epstein the simplest answer?

Because I've been a fan for 45 years and I will remain one (tho the last several years have been difficult).
Not really a matter of fandom, just a complete lack of faith in Arte to do the right thing as far as running a winning organization is concerned. Show me one instance where Arte has seemed to give a $ hit about his image.
Can't speak to his financials but I would assume he's still making a profit which is really all that I think he cares about. I'd be thrilled to be proven wrong.
Again, I love your proposal. Incentivize winning.
