DerekGMZ reacted to Inside Pitch in Season Officially Over!
Jeff Mathis, career OPS+ of 52 -- will get a FULL MLB pension upon retiring... His 12 seasons in MLB will be equal to that of HOFer Sandy Koufax...
Those must be some really HD quality pics he's got.

DerekGMZ got a reaction from itsKnoppUitsme in And we wonder why Dipoto quit...
I don't see a direction... enough so to actually make a post. I love the Angels enough to watch them no matter their chances. I remember being excited about the probability of being a .500 team. It's unfortunate that we have a ways to go in order to become a "respectable" organization again. I personally think Dipoto had too small of a sample size to actually judge him as a GM. Arte is a great business man but he doesn't know legitimate numbers for long term success when it comes to sports teams. Especially a game like baseball which relies so much on long term numbers and larger sample sizes and investment in player personnel. American Football is so far behind Baseball because every season is so varianced via the 16 game seasons that the general understanding of sports is scewed. Its unfortunate. The Angels aren't going to be great (mathematically) for a couple more years. I love the simmons trade, the Trout prime years are going to take a hit, We can all blame Hamilton, or Arte. sure, but the only thing we can hope for is improvement. It's not going to happen this year... or next year. Our minor league system is too weak overall. Long post short, Arte is the problem. We need the trickle down affect to start strong from the top. It hasn't happened. Stop stressing out, your lives will be better for it. Love the Angels, hope for the best, and stop pulling your hair out. Become an alcoholic, it works for me.
Drunk rant over. I'll edit it when I feel like it.

DerekGMZ reacted to Chuck in Thank you: ettin, DocHalo, AngelsJunky & Inside Pitch
I know I can be a bit of a homer when it comes to the Angels and when it comes to advanced stats I'm still trying to wrap my head around a lot of what's out there, but you four really bring it when it comes to teaching ME and our entire community here on the value of players and what to really look for determining their value, outside of HR's, RBI and batting average -- or what some of us look at when trying to draft a fantasy baseball team.
You guys have elevated our knowledge as fans and for that I'm grateful. Your articles and posts here are a much welcomed addition.
Cheers, guys!

F'n somebody.

DerekGMZ reacted to mulwin444 in Chris Cotillo: Angels and Padres after Daniel Nava
So he's kicking tires on Nava...this is Eppler's version of what Dipoto did except, instead of NL West scrubs, he's checking out scrubs formerly from the AL East. We lack depth and, if the price is low, why not? I'll save my whining for when Upton, Cespedes, and Gordon are off the board.

DerekGMZ reacted to nate in Heyward to Cubs
Seriously, stop saying he took less. That is such bullshit. His agent just advertised the 200m deal to get more money. I have no doubt that he took the highest offer.

DerekGMZ reacted to Troll Daddy in Winter Meetings Recap Day 3
Your assault on Simmons is pathetic and getting old. Simmons is arguably the best defensive player on the planet. Typically SS isn't a power hitting position to begin with ... Andrelton is a contact hitter who doesn't strike out or walk much. His .321 OBP is acceptable in my book. His potential as a hitter hasn't been reached yet. He will be a clubhouse favorite and bring a winning mentality to the team.
Don't be surprised if you see a lot of his jerseys in the stadium. You probably don't go to games I would imagine. Personally, I can't wait to see Andrelton and Trout on the same field!
This may end up being the best trade in a long time. Also, enough with the depleted farm remarks ... weak sauce argument. The team used its depth in pitching to make the trade.
ANDRELTON is a bright and shining star.

Eppler is absolutely destroying Stoneman in Maddon right now.

DerekGMZ reacted to Homebrewer in Official 2015-2016 Hot Stove Thread
The last time the halos had a seemingly terrible Winter Meeting and hot stove season, they broke out of it at the end by signing
Vernon Wells!
Cheer up everyone.

DerekGMZ reacted to halosfan1970 in Craig Gentry is an Angel
Craig Gentry (OF), Cliff Pennington (IF), and Geovany Soto ( C) make for a much stronger bench in 2016 than Cowgill (OF), Featherston (IF), and Iannetta ( C) in 2015.
Adding Justin Morneau (1B/DH) would be a solid move too.

DerekGMZ reacted to The Ghost of Bob Starr in Angels sign Soto
It's about fûcking time. Should have been a Soto on the team 20 years ago.

DerekGMZ reacted to FabulousFabregas in Bud Black back with the Angels in FO role

DerekGMZ reacted to VariousCrap in The Simmons Trade: Good & Bad
I was upset about the trade until I started reading Braves fans responses to this trade. They are livid about this movie. I keep reading that even if Newcomb becomes a good MLB starter, fans still don't think it was worth it. In their opinion, Simmons is that good.

DerekGMZ reacted to gotbeer in The Simmons Trade: Good & Bad
If it was the 2 best prospects in the MLB, than no it's not worth it. But this is the 2 best Angels prospects. And no matter how good Scotty says they are. I think Newcomb was ranked 24th in the MLB. And Ellis wasn't even ranked.
So giving up the 24th best prospect for 5 years of the best SS in the MLB, to play along with the best player in the MLB for those 5 years.
I'm good with it.
