And one of us thinks he’d hit at least .200 in the majors, you know, if it was worth it.  The rest of us laugh at the person.

First time he sees a 90 mph fastball or a breaking ball on the inside part of the plate, I'm guessing he bails and complains about almost being hit by a pitch.

I would just wear brown pants for that situation.

    I hate the Asstros.

    I like Detmers.

He was about to get rocked and it would have been a lot worse. He did not have his best stuff. 3rd time through the order, yowza, they weren't being fooled. Even the 2nd time through, they weren't being fooled...even though he squeaked out of it. It looked like Nevin even gave him a shot to make productive argument before he yanked him, and Detmers was pretty much silent.

As much as it pains me to say it the Astros have legitimate professional Major League batters. You can see in their eyes before they even step up to the plate, they aren't scared, they want to beat the pitcher, they're hungry...and it's this way pretty much through the entire lineup.

I know we're not used to seeing that kind of thing because 5/9ths of our lineup consists of horseshit defensive at bats with guys who don't know how to swing and the contact they make barely gets the ball out of infield...so yea! It stings!

But what we saw tonight is what good baseball players do when they have a bat in their hands and why the Astros continue to be in 1st place year after year (as much as they still are f***ing cheaters IMO).

Perhaps some fans on this board have become accustom to horeshit batting performances (Duffy, Adell, Velazquez, Stassi, Walsh, most recently Ward, the list goes on and on) but what we watch on a day to day basis is not acceptable on championship caliber ballclubs.

This is why I argue so hard against giving some of these bums "another 2 years" to "figure it out" because scouts said they "should be good." Astros bring up a prospect, and they flourish.

    Why?

Perhaps sometimes it's forgotten how a well oiled offensive lineup should actually operate. The Astros have it down to a pretty fine art.

The Astros are always well prepared to play as a result of advanced scouting, excellent organizational pregame preparation, in game analytics to help players make adjustments and players who are willing to make adjustments.   It's sometimes as simple as that.

  3. I would prefer reading reports of Adell improving than watching him play at this point.  His future will depend on Minasian's ability to find a league average replacement player for next year.   With that thought, Adell will probably be the starting left fielder in 2023.

To be honest @Swordsman78, it was I who put up the white flag after Nevin pulled Mayers after the 4th.

I’ll own that, and I rightfully admitted he pitched great tonight.  No need to jump CaliAngels shit, when it was me I believe.

    At least I think so.

That's what he does. It doesn't matter the taget, he seems to be arroused by calling people out. It's best to chose the ignore option until he learns some basic social skills.

Can't wait to sign more of the Duffy, Suzuki, Velazquez and Wades of the world!

Minasian needs to make better choices.  There is a limit on the level of talent you can sign for x number of dollars so Minasian needs to do a better job of signing players who can provide league average play. I don't have any faith he can do it.

  6. I don't understand why having the team for sale would prevent the Angels from making some smart moves at this time.  Any potential buyers willing to spend over a couple of billion dollars aren't looking to "flip" the Angels.  Potential buyers, I assume, are looking at such an investment with long term goals.  Having a solid foundation, in my mind, wouldn't interfere with potential buyers.  I can see an attempt by the Angels to secure Ohtani with either a long term deal or a one year deal to avoid arbitration.  I can also see the Angels making a few other signings for shorter contracts hoping to secure better performances in some crucial positions.  I think it will be a normal off season with the typical projected payroll.

I guess they're saying on fangraphs that Ohtani's WAR as a position player is 3.1 and his WAR as a pitcher is 4.0 for a total of 7.1 ?

    Judge is at 8.1.

I think people can't understand what Ohtani does or how difficult it really is. The guy is competing at the highest level playing in two completely different roles and doing extremely well in both.

How is it possible for Ohtani to not win the Cy Young award?  What are the offensive numbers for the other pitchers in the Cy Young conversation?
