  1. How is this a fair comparison? They were at different stages in their career.
  2. How are his numbers better than Hunter's? And why are you ignoring defensive value?
  3. Oh wow, they're going to regret that so much. I feel so bad for Giants fans right now.
  4. What GM wants to get caught in between Arte and Scioscia? It's strongly suspected that both of them intervene far too much in personnel decisions.
  5. As far as I'm concerned, the dbacks organization egged them on.
  6. I can't even fully comprehend how good Trout is and can be. It's kind of freaking me out that we actually have a player this great on our team (that came out of our system no less.)
  7. Paying 15 million for Blanton is not what I'd call swap meet price.
  8. Compared to the kind of stats that Daisuke, Darvish, and Tanaka had in the Japanese league, Irabu's weren't that impressive. The reality is though that there are a lot more failed Japanese starting pitchers than there are successes, but perhaps the talent is getting better now. Tanaka would have been a fine risk pre-Pujols&Hamilton, but I don't know if we can afford to whiff on another big money signing. I like him though, and he could end up being exactly what we need.
  9. If the Angels backed out of the Kendrick/Lee deal, then they're morons. Lee is great value for Kendrick, and a prospect I've been interested in since his draft.
  10. I still don't understand how anyone would judge who the best player is by any metric that wouldn't also make them the most valuable player. I don't care what team that player is on (that is completely out of their control, and so is the division that that team is in,) the best the player is the most valuable player and vice versa.
  11. But if he beat up a man, then we should tolerate it?
  12. Why would he want to do it? If he makes it to free agency, he'll probably break every contract record there is.
  13. Personally I don't see what the big deal is, it's obviously a case of specific circumstances. Sure, it would be odd if they were doing that when we were actually in the playoff hunt and weren't in desperate need of improving our farm system, but that's not the case. You may see it as just rooting for losses, but others may see it as rooting for something meaningful since the playoffs are out of the picture, and it's hard to argue against a high draft pick having a bigger impact on the future of the team than having a slightly better losing record.
  14. If we win on the merits of our young guys, then great. I'm not really rooting for them to lose, but at the end of the season, I hope we have the best draft position possible because that's a greater asset than meaningless wins. Ultimately, what's really important is that our draft pick is at least in the protected range.
  15. I think the lesson we should take home from this is that the manager should be behind what the GM is doing. Please no more egos or potential egos at the manager position.
  16. Clearly he's just goofing around and not focusing on the game. Unprofessional.
  17. It all really depends on what's actually going on and the vision that would replace it. If there's really trouble between Scioscia and Dipoto, then obviously someone needs to go, and in that case, I'm saying at least Scioscia needs to go, because while I'm sympathetic to the fact that manager's jobs are heavily influenced by the decisions of the GM's, I think a team needs to ultimately be a GM's vision, and therefore managers need to be more subservient to that. Does that mean Dipoto has earned a continued chance? In an ideal world yes, but there's definitely questionable decisions here, and it's hard to be patient when this much money has been invested. So if I have to make a decision based on the little information we have, I say let Scioscia go, and only fire Dipoto if you have a good reliable replacement set up with a coherent and consistent vision for the entire organization (from scouting to ML manager.)
  18. Is he done as a SS? I remember that was supposedly his greatest attribute at one point.
  19. I can't really remember a time when it wasn't boring, but I think it has gotten more boring.
