  1. Not necessarily, but you can see how it can become a self-fulfilling prophecy. You keep saying to someone that they can't do anything right and you focus only on the things they did wrong, why would they believe in themselves at that point?
  2. Yeah. I hate how unsympathetic and indignant people can get. I really hope people don't treat him like he's some perpetual **** up like they did with the bar incident. You start treating relapses like they erase all your accomplishments and hard work, then that's likely what they'll become.
  3. He may not have meant "worse" in terms of number of games suspended, but in another sense.
  4. I don't see why that's worth so much, and it's not like arenas in other sports that have universal dimensions necessarily lack identity.
  5. I'd like more offense, but when I think about how small the strike zone is already (I mean really, is knees to waist really players' contact zones? Come on, most hitters are comfortable hitting pitches above their waist,) you're just making it unreasonably difficult on pitchers and punishing them for being more talented. As far as I'm concerned, pitchers are just out-evolving hitters in terms of talent, and honestly, I think pitching is just the naturally more dominant position. The pitcher always has the obvious statistical advantage, and also I think the position is more based on pure physical talent than hitting is, IMO. I think both are highly developed skills, but I think hitting is more based on skill and finely tuned physical traits (eyesight, hand-eye coordination, reaction time, quick-twitch muscles) than pitching is. IMO, don't do anything that would require a significant adjustment period for one position over the other, such as a strike zone or mound change. One change that might make things more fair, is universal dimensions. I know this would take a very long time to institute since it would require stadium reconstruction, but I think it's kind of ridiculous that baseball is pretty much the only sport that doesn't have universal dimensions with their playing field. At the very least, make foul territory the same area for every stadium.
  6. No one makes adjustments anymore? Uh, or maybe it's just players valuing not making outs in general, rather than only not making outs one specific way. As far as I'm concerned, a player who's more concerned with not striking out, rather than getting on base, is playing cowardly.
  7. If I were the Yankees, I'd throw an absurd amount of money at Moncada.
  8. "middle relievers unexpectedly throwing the ball three-mph harder" 3 mph harder than when they were starters? Uh, I think we all know why that happens, and it's pretty obvious.
  9. I'd consider it a colossal failure if the Yankees don't sign him. If there was ever a time to just throw a shit ton of money at someone, do it for an uber-talented 19 year old who can play the left side of the infield (where they've lost two star players in recent years.)
  10. He has a typical star player's attitude, and a lot of people know about every little thing he does because he's growing up in such a highly reported-on era, but the problem is, he's not a star yet.
  11. He's doing what he's always trying to do, maximize value within his economic restraints.
  12. I wasn't really referring to the stereotyping of feminists as much as I was referring to the assumption people make that feminists reflect the views and reactions of women in general, when they don't, and that's demonstrated by most women not identifying as feminist. There are a lot of different types of feminism and feminists, but SJW's align well with third wave feminist ideology. The type of pseudointellectual garbage they spew is the same shit you'll hear in most women's and gender studies courses, they're popular views in academia, media, and political/legal activism. So if feminism can be represented by any particular sect, then SJW's are just as good of a representation as anything else, if not better.
  13. No, don't you see? It's actually the women who have a very strong passion and ability to go into a STEM field deciding not to because of a t-shirt some dude wore, who are being bullied. They would have followed their dream if they hadn't been ostracized by that guy's shirt.
  14. The shittiest part of all of this is that since the SJW feminists are the current biggest mouths of feminism, people equate their voices to the voices of women in general, so they're making women look incredibly weak with this BS outrage. So they're not even doing women any favors, when that's the banner that they wave. These people are not about equality and fairness, they're about demanding the most absolutely benign reality for them, personally, based on their own personal sensibilities, and if society doesn't meet that standard, then they're being oppressed, along with all women.
  15. I'm more impressed by what the Braves did for over a decade.
  16. I'm tired of the huge contracts being handed out to players on the down-swing, just so we can get some big name on our roster for the next year. No more massive contracts to just get that player for the next season, if you're going to hand out a big deal or trade a lot of talent, do it for someone particularly young and still in their prime, even if they're somewhat unproven. This is the added misfortune of the Angels getting beaten in such an embarrassing fashion, in that it can potentially lead to some short-sighted reactionary moves this off-season by Arte and co.
  17. Obviously both stats are really weak on their own, but I'd much rather evaluate a player by just their runs, than just their RBI's. They're very lineup dependent stats, but you can only get a maximum of one run per PA, and you still have to run the bases well to score (so even if you get on by an error or fielder's choice,) while you can get multiple RBI's on just a lucky out.
  18. Oh come on guys, they're pretty obedient noise-making drones when they put the "make noise" sign on, what more can you ask for?
  19. Do you think flipping their order would benefit the lineup in any way? It feels like Trout is our only real MOTO bat right now, but he's the only guy who's a real elite on-base/baserunning threat, and perhaps he'd feel less pressure if he were focusing on getting on rather than bringing runners in. I know the difference between the 1 and 2 spot throughout the game is probably miniscule, but it's food for thought I guess.
  20. I hate it when Scioscia gets in the mode of trying to be cute in order to justify his position or whatever.
  21. Calhoun bunting at all was bad, but the fact that he still wanted that bunt despite a 3-1 count completely infuriated me. Scioscia was just throwing away outs left and right that game.
