Halos of Anaheim reacted to Second Base in The Official 2018 Minor League Statline and Prospect Discussion Thread
I know you already know this, but I'll write it so that the others reading this thread can properly frame the eval process. So much of what we do is look at the skills, as well as the numbers relative to their age.
Jo Adell has better power, is faster, and is a better defender than Brandon Marsh. That says A LOT because Brandon Marsh is a good hitter with good power and great speed and he's a good defender. It just so happens that Adell has great power with great speed and potentially great defense. Adell is also a year younger than Marsh. And as far as the numbers go...
Jo Adell is hitting .325 /.384 with 6 DB 3 HR and 3 SB in 20 games in A Ball at age 19.
Brandon Marsh is hitting .287/.389 with 11 DB 3 HR and 3 SB in 32 games in A Ball at age 20.
They really are both fantastic. But Jo Adell is the better prospect. It isn't by a mile, but it isn't neck and neck either. Five years from now, I doubt anyone will care who was the better prospect in A Ball when they're both stars.

If Adell turns out to have the career Justin Upton has I would be thrilled
And so would he (Upton will make about a quarter billion dollars in his career)

Sometimes I'm sure Marsh is our best position prospect. Then sometimes I'm sure it's Adell.

Don't forget to mention Marsh, who's 3-3 with a double. It's so fun having a legit farm system to keep up with

So far in Burlington, Adell is 2 for 2 with a HR and a SB.

Next into the top 100: Canning
That makes 4 in the top 100: Adell, Jones, Marsh, Canning
I can only assume our first rounder in the upcoming draft would make 5 in the top 100

Marsh makes the top 100 list at Baseball America!
Brandon Marsh
Angels OF Hit: 55 | Power: 55 |Speed: 60 | Fielding: 55 | Arm: 60
Scouting Report: Marsh flashed his five-tool potential as one of the best players in the Pioneer League in his pro debut in 2017, although he missed a month with a sprained thumb. A standout wide receiver who helped his high school team win Georgia AAAA state championships in 2013 and 2014, Marsh is an elite athlete with a strong frame, plus speed and plus arm strength. He looked a little raw offensively in instructional league last fall, but showed advanced plate discipline at Orem, sitting on pitches like a college hitter. Marsh has shown an ability to hit to all fields and could grow into more power as he matures physically. The way the ball comes off his bat leads some scouts to project above-average power in his future. The Angels believe Marsh has the speed and instincts to cover a lot of ground in center field, though he may eventually move to a corner spot.

So mr statistic, what gives you that impression? Is it the 0 playoff wins in how many years now? Scioscia is skating off 2002. Arte is a moron for keeping him around

I legitimately cannot take you seriously. You simply don't understand basic fundamental baseball. Keep living on baseball reference, it's truly amazing how poorly you comprehend the game

The bullpen is clearly a problem. Eppler's experiment is failing. Kinsler stinks. Kole is lost. I know it's early but that can't be the excuse for much longer.

Well I mean....the guy came in having allowed just 30 hits in 56.2 IP. Tonight's game though is a good reminder of why this team likely won't last long in October(assuming they get there). This is a playoff type match-up where you're facing good pitching so runs will be at a premium. This is where your pen has to show its worth and once again the Angels pen crapped its pants

Their pissed off and so am I. I can take them venting on the loss. I tolerate the ridiculous blame Scioscia on everything. I do get pissed off at by every post sniffing Astros jock and saying we are playing for 2nd place.

This game exposed every weakness this team has. Starters can't go deep enough. Bullpen is overworked, very shallow, and VERY shaky. Offense is prone to horrendous slumps. Baserunning/coaching is suspect.
Some of this, Eppler failed to address or thought our in-house options were good enough. Some of it is coaching. Much of it is players who are either scuffling so hard that they can't see straight or just aren't performing to expectations.
We need another starting pitcher, one who is capable of going deep into ballgames while keeping this team in the game, multiple bullpen arms, and, as has become apparent, a starting right fielder.
I don't know if all these needs can be addressed. If they aren't, however, we may be looking at yet another postseason that doesn't involve the Angels.

Halos of Anaheim reacted to Griffey's Corner in A Few Thoughts
Point #1....So as I was saying last week I am not necessarily advocating Calhoun start dropping down all these bunts..... but whatever way possible he needs to keep the defense honest and spray the ball using the whole field. Bunting was just one idea to facilitate breaking the radical shift they play on him. As I mentioned last week I would prefer a strikeout vs. these weak rolled over ground balls.
Point #2.... Eric Young Jr. played very well last year.... he was a spark plug.... when Trout went down with an injury he helped keep our season alive. He can steal bases & do some other nice things. He also plays with a lot of emotion.... which I think is good for a baseball team. He cares about winning.
Point #3.... I have no idea why they signed Chris Young.
Point #4... It's bad enough the Angels are on the hook for the Pujols & Valbuena salaries.... this year I am approximating around $40,000,000. But you are making a bad decision even worse when you jettison your first round pick CJ Cron who you have spent so much time & resources in developing and improving his defense. I do not think CJ Cron is a world beater but when the season started I predicted.... not on this board that he would hit .283 and hit 32 HR's. Which at least is giving you average production. We gave up CJ for a bag of peanuts.... even though between the 3 he is the best player.... because of the salaries.... that is so messed up.
Point #5..... I wanted Fletcher to start at 2b and use the money saved to sign some bullpen help.... instead we added Kinsler and whatever he is making? I am guessing around $10,000,000? And I am not a Kinsler basher... I just think the money could have been spent better elsewhere.
Point #6A.... Quit playing scared to win.... There is NO reason Shohei cannot DH more.... or at least pinch hit with the game on the line instead of sending up less than desirables. Batting once in a game is less tiring than having sex at night..... are the Angels regulating his sex the night before he pitches? I doubt it.... so that being the case let him play.... Bad News Bears reference there.
Point #6B.... Let or tell Trout to steal..... what is his track record this year on stolen bases? 90%? If that gives you the win.... than do not manage scared.
Some of this falls on Mr. Scioscia.... & I say that respectfully I am sure when it comes to baseball he is a frickin genius..... But if someone with a lot less knowledge of the game can see these things.... shouldn't he?
Thank you all for taking the time to read this.... I guess I am just really pissed that they lose these games that I feel like are so winnable.

All you can expect from a batter is a good at bat. Other than that can’t shift blame or get pissed at anyone. Wasn’t the weak bitch hits that beat us, it was the horrid pitching choices and the dumb intentional walk.
