I didn't know Marte played for the angels.

Interested to see how this strategy of deploying their starter in the 2nd or 3rd inning works out for The Rays, seems to make a ton of sense to me on it's surface but I can't ever see it being something baseball fully accepts.

They want to get their starter deeper into the game. It also lets you put one of your better relievers in the game off the bat against the top three of the opposing team, which would presumably give the starter easier competition to allow him to get settled in.

Good to see Marte in the game, he has a positive 0.4 WAR at least unlike Pujols & Calhoun.

Interesting. It essentially allows the starter to face the weaker portion of the Angels order the third time through.
