Detmers has always had the talent and the stuff. If he has a breakout season, that will be huge for us. In my opinion, for what it's worth, he has the best stuff of the entire rotation. He just needs to trust his talent. I also think we have greatly improved the coaching for the pitching staff.

Hope we see Adell tomorrow. Glad to see Moniak drawing some walks. More he shows he can do that, the more he will get better pitches to hit.
Not really understanding the Hicks thing. He's getting a lot of rope for a guy that has two young, out-of-options hungry guys behind him. Almost like the roles should be reversed--the young guys feeling the pressure of a vet looking to steal their time. He's not hitting and has struck out a ton.

I hope this is a sign of Detmers developing into a true front of rotation guy rather than just a couple good starts. He was great tonight. He put his fastball where he needed to and the change and curve were both fantastic. If he can do that consistently we might have something special on our hands.

Just my observations from last nights game.
Fly overs are always great.  National anthem with the giant flag is always emotional.
The crowd last night was LOUD, like playoff atmosphere loud.
The fans cheered and boo’d when it felt appropriate. Lots of times when the stadium is full it feels like half the crowd doesn’t know what is going on in the game, last night felt like everyone was into it.
Rendon was boo’d, Ohtani on the video board was boo’d (which surprised me) Arte on the video board was boo’d, when they announced Joey Cora he was boo’d.
The cheers came when guys got hits or worked walks, but the volume was just different than it has been in quite some time.
Rendon standing ovation, wasn’t really a thing.  One guy behind me stood and cheered him. I think things like that are stupid, regardless of the player. I did however give Trout a standing O as well as Weaver coming out for his first pitch, oh and the 102 year old veteran they recognized in between innings.
Boston had three hit by pitches and one certainly felt like he swung at the pitch from where I was sitting, but the third base ump gave the safe sign.  It felt like two of the guys that got hit took forever to “shake it off” so they could get playing again.
It was my first time up in the 400 section in a few years, they have added a ton of beer can stands, which makes the wait times less (I’d imagine) but it makes it more crowded as you are trying to walk around up there getting to your seats.  Any renovation feels like it needs more restrooms. Also where I was at, I didn’t see TVs up by the concessions so you can keep up on the game when standing in long lines.
    Lastly, fuck Boston.

One more thing, very few Boston fans, which is always a good thing.

That was what we were hoping for last season. He pitched an excellent game. If he can go out and replicate this performance that will be huge.

I just saw this highlight. Impressive play. He has an excellent arm. That ball had some serious velocity.

Wow, when is he due? Congrats! Him being pregnant does at least explain his hitting troubles and general crankiness

Detmers has the talent to do that consistently; he just needs to develop consistency. I am not a baseball-coaching expert, but he just needs to believe in himself, trust his stuff, and realize he has the talent to do this often.

I met Hud personally. It must've been around 2009 or so. I was coaching a 7th and 8th grade boys team in 8-on-8 flag football, and we were practicing at Pioneer Park in Tustin. Hud was there with a small party, and he ambled on over where my team was practicing to watch. I recognized him right away and just said, "Well, Hud. What do you think, is my team a winner?" He shook my hand, complimented my team, and took the time to chat with them. He couldn't be nicer. This was the time when Manny was a FA, so I asked him what he thought. He got animated and enthusiastic and started talking how Manny and Vlad would be great. He was the same as we all would her him on an Angels' broadcast.
I enjoyed the conversation immensely. I thanked him for spending some time with us, and he thanked me for taking time to coach kids. He was very genuine. He is one of the good ones for sure. He is also a fairly big, strong looking person. I again ran into him at the Tustin City Hall complex about a year later. He greeted me by name and inquired about how my team did.
