He hasn't earned being valued. Due to Trout's injury, he was handed CF full time and has absolutely come up lacking. It is apparent that he simply is not a good major league player. He lacks talent for this level.

I'd offer that even Trout doesn't really know how to play winning baseball. How many meaningful games has he played in in his career? Rendon and Sano are the guys on the team with the most playoff experience. They've been in really big games. I can't think of any other regulars that understand what it takes. So we see these silly mistakes night after night because the focus and intensity doesn't change in big moments.

But why do you expect the outcomes to be different? Other than Trout and Rendon, neither of whom are ever available, no one on the team has any real track record of sustained success at the major league level.
Estevez had a good first half last year as a closer, but has been wildly inconsistent since then. None of the young/young-ish starters have established themselves yet. Anderson had a great 2022 and a pretty good rookie season, but is a mediocre pitcher overall.
The young position players have varying degrees of promise, but, again, you can't really count on any of them at this point.
You and Swordsman78 can keep saying they "should" be doing this or that, but the reality is, the team isn't talented or healthy enough to be competitive right now. You can't look at a team that has a -43 run differential after 43 games and reasonably say they should at least be .500.

This is the second time you've mentioned Pillar being a trade piece.  No one is going to give the Angels anything worth writing about for him.  The White Sox were the only team that wanted him in the off-season.  They dumped him.  Anyone could have picked him up before the Angels did.  They didn't.  A couple of hot weeks from him is entertaining for fans, but doesn't change the narrative on his value at all.

A road cone might provide better defense than Tucker or Goodrum at 3rd.

Enough with the dumpster diving and digging up other teams' castaways. We are looking more and more like an expansion team with every passing week it seems. If these guys we have been collecting off of the scrap heap were any good, their former teams would've kept them. For the vast majority of these castaways, no change in scenery is going to change the fact that they are just not talented enough for the major leagues. I thought that having the "Los Angeles" in front of "Angels" was supposed to be the elixar that brought in all the superstars and money. Ha. It takes more than the name of a large city to actually be a big-market team.

EDinTUSTIN got a reaction from Angel Oracle in OC Register: Angels offense continues to struggle while Patrick Sandoval endures one bad inning
Well, his past aside, I put this loss mostly on the lack of offense. In this case, he was trying to be too perfect, probably, due to the fact that he was pitching with no cushion for mistake. He's not, at this point, ready to handle that or even capable of that, but other than that one inning, he looked good on the mound. This will happen to aces, too, but most of them usually have offenses that have the capability to put up more than a measly two runs and don't waste runners in scoring position over and over again. So, I will give Sandy a pass on this one. He has had his issues, to be sure, but as of late he is pitching much better. Good article, as usual.

Time maybe to see if one of these two has the makings of a closer. They couldn't be less reliable than what we have now in that spot. They both seem cool under pressure, unlike Estevez who seems to pitch as if he is in distress or something.

It is about time to practice what is preached. You can preach until blue in the face, but without results and commitment from organizational leadership, and especially the owner, you are going to be woefully short on converts!

For the life of me, I just don't get the infatuation that the Angel's have with Estevez. He is another that could be cut loose. May as well let Cimber have a shot at closing. Estevez does not have a closer's mentality and seems to pitch scared. We need a closer that is intimidating, not intimidated. He is like the proverbial football placekicker who can't reliably hit that extra point or knock the ball through the crossbars at 30 yards when his team is down by 2 with 30 seconds on the clock. Those guys find themselves unemployed in a hurry. The same should happen to closers who can't protect a lead in the ninth inning.

Wash seems to as evidenced by his plea a couple of weeks ago to give them a chance and support the team. I think he hears it loudly and clearly. I just wish they would put Arte's pic up on the Jumbotron, particularly in those situations. I bet they'd hear boos then. Serves them right!
