Angels in 2030 reacted to Erstad Grit in The Official Los Angeles Angels 2023-2024 Hot Stove Offseason Thread
Per Baseball America, the #Angels are expected to sign #8 ranked SS Joswa Lugo. This would be the first top 10 international player we've signed since Ohtani.

Any chance it’s a minor league deal?

I just think this team already has too many potential DH's.

I mean, Angels don’t have anything to trade really, and there aren’t many good FAs left - they also have to want to sign here.

Angels in 2030 reacted to mmc in It’s time we consider signing Trevor Bauer
Your reading comprehension really sucks if this is the case because I don’t think any of the people opposed to signing Bauer have used that as the reason

Angels in 2030 reacted to JTminutes in It’s time we consider signing Trevor Bauer
Bauer is always a controversial topic, and rightfully so. After seeing his post about a team not wanting to sign him because of the "PR hit" they would take I started thinking about it. The Angels seem to be the perfect fit for him. As the guys have pointed out on the podcast, and all media for that matter, the Angels are already viewed as a joke. Why not go and sign him, it won't lower how people perceive the team that much.
Also, I'm a big believer in 2nd chances, and what better manager to have the Wash to help him through the opportunity? He's a man who has had to rebuild his life in the past and has done a great job at it! He could be a fantastic mentor. Also, Mookie says he wasn't a bad teammate, and I don't see how he could be any worse for the team than Rendon has been in the last couple of years. Offer a short-term prove-it deal with an option for a 2nd year.
This could set the Angels up with a nice top-of-the-rotation if they sign Snell or Montgomery, and give them the option to package Sandoval.

Just some thoughts

MLB.com picked one prospect from each team that they're looking forward to seeing in 2024. The Angels prospect...is a guy they haven't even drafted yet.

Angels: Seaver King, OF/SS (No. 9 on Draft Top 100)
In our first full mock for the 2024 Draft, King was the choice for the Angels at No. 8. Given that the Angels have had the first draftee to reach the big leagues in the last two years (Zach Neto, their 2022 first-rounder and Nolan Schanuel, their top pick in 2023), it only stands to reason that they take another college bat and watch him race to Los Angeles.

Angels in 2030 reacted to Second Base in The Official Los Angeles Angels 2023-2024 Hot Stove Offseason Thread
I mean, it's good and bad I guess. Their post hype prospects have done remarkably well. Teams don't usually get a lot out of guys that are 26-ish with no options left, yet the Angels scored on Ward, Thaiss, Moniak, Rengifo, Soriano....
And then there's the guys they draft and are almost immediately in the majors before any hype can come, like Silseth, Joyce, Neto, Schanuel....
It seems to me that the Angels have done really poor in the areas where prospect hot sheets really focus on, which is drafting or signing toolsy teenagers and developing them so that they're major league ready at 22. The last guys that fit that description in the system was Adell, or maybe Maitan. They did have Marsh but they dealt him for O'Hoppe which seems like a very good trade for both sides right now.
Personally, I think they've got something in Caden Dana.

I’d balk too on giving $700 million to someone who may or may not pitch effectively in the future (2 surgeries).
$700 million is beyond expensive for a guy who’s mainly a great DH.

I’d settle for Steve Ballmer buying them.

Angels in 2030 reacted to Blarg in Yamamoto to the Dodgers
Nearly every Japanese league starter has had elbow/arm problems after a year or two in MLB. Ohtani didn't last one season. Darvish was out by his third. Maeda had years of breakdowns. Kikuchi one season.
It's not a great history of adapting quickly. I expect Yamamoto to follow suit and the Dodgers may be looking at him swapping positions with Ohtani in a year or so.

The Braves and Rays have done juuuuuuust fine without signing mega-deals. I continue to hope Minasian is playing the long game and it's just taking a little bit to get this ship turned in that direction.
Just work on developing the core in 2024.

Angels in 2030 reacted to halomatt in Yamamoto to the Dodgers
Yep. Lots of jealousy on the board masquerading as "hate." I'm impressed and yes, I'm jealous that the Dodgers have such a great organization that they can call on seemingly endless amounts of minor league talent to supplement their roster for trades and yet still attract the best free agents to play for them. All because of their reputation as a top flight organization. Yes. I'm jealous. And I am very disappointed in Moreno for allowing the Angel franchise to become a "secondary market" in Southern California through his lack of organizational culture, vision, and direction.

I figured this was coming.
Next up, they'll sign Hader.
Then, they'll buy the biggest billboards they can find near Angels stadium and put Ohtani on them in his Dodger uniform.
If I were the Dodgers, that's what *I'd* do.
