100% this.  It's so frustrating.  It's obvious from seeing the success of the LAD, TB, etc. the past 10+ years what works and what does not for LT franchise success.  Further, Arte is truly willing to spend money on the organization as evidenced by his big contracts he doles out and the annual team payroll.  But it's HOW he spends that money which is soooo frustrating.  It's like a guy spending huge money on a fancy car & clothes to impress the neighborhood/peers/etc. while he's behind on his mortgage, having marriage problems, no retirement savings, etc.  It's like he's not willing to put in the work to build a foundation that takes time (or doesn't see it) and prefers to jump to the front of the line with a fancy big FA purchase.

I keep saying that my beef with Arte is that he can't see the forest for the trees and stuff like this keeps making me think I'm not wrong.  And I very badly want to be wrong.
Hopefully Jeff can do some digging for us.

It's not "wrong" in an illegal sense.  But it's wrong in a management/labor way.  You can't be that stupid.  He basically handed the MLPA a gold plater of goodies in their labor negotiations.  Not to mention being a moron with his language comments.  But it's the labor stuff that ruined this guy.  A CEO might not want a Union to form at the company and it's not illegal for him/her to say so, but it's simply not something they can do.   When you are management (especially senior or the head), you have to be smarter than that.  How someone like that got there....
I continually am amazed at the dumb things my gender does day in and day out.  Unsolicited  and unnecessary things that get us in trouble, makes us look like fools/idiots, etc.  Thank God women haven't figured out a way to guarantee a girl when making a baby (artificial or natural)....us Men might finally be doomed when that day comes.

Good lord man, if you can't be bothered to actually listen to what he said and more importantly how he said it then there is no point wasting any time discussing it with you, because yours is an ignorant position at hello.
When I say ignorant I mean it in the true sense of the word and not as an attempt to insult you, you simply have to hear what he says and how he says it to understand what's wrong about it.  The tone was pretty much everything, although maybe reading the full transcript at least gives you a view of his arrogance and contempt..
He basically said all the things out loud that it's clear their organization says behind closed doors. It was a pretty brutal look into how little they value people and their prejudices, which after the Martin issues two years ago is a particularly bad look.
To try to paint it as a refreshingly transparent view is laughable.

I know most view the later innings as being the higher leverage ones but I'm a big believer of using the shutdown guy when he's most useful like they used to do with Shields.  That's not to say that I think Pena is that guy, but given his ability to stretch out a bit he may end being one of the more valuable relievers.  I think Sandoval could also be that guy.

I mean if we have the system to spot pitching mechanic flaws that are easy fixes that would be incredible. We could sign struggling pitchers, make tweaks, watch them soar. Perhaps that happened with Bundy.
    I'm doubtful.

So is pitch “fixing/tweak” the Pitchers spring training version of “best shape of career” for position players now?

I think the thought is, if you are going to move him move him as a secondary piece to get someone with either higher upside/higher probability of success or for someone with more club control.

I didn't care about Jones. He was a "top 10" prospect in our system but I thought that was always a little high. I guess he has some upside.
The issue is we gave up anything to get a pitcher we already have (Barria). Depth is good but in this case it's redundant. Hell, Barria may even be better.

Angels in 2030 got a reaction from ten ocho recon scout in Taylor Ward at camp as a catcher
It's easy to make fun of this....and i enjoy a good laugh.  But honestly, there is a value (to the player and team) for a guy who can be a jack of all trades bench player all around the field.  Ward will never be an everyday premium player starting 150+ games a year at one spot.  He's just not good enough -- especially defensively at one spot.  But being a bench guy who can play the OF, 3B, 1B and C if necessary is valuable.  If he can work on 2B even better.  Things happen over the course of a long season and you need a plug guy here & there to get thru the season.  Bench guy who plays OF and 1B are a dime a dozen.  But add in a difficult spot like C or SS and now you got a keeper for the end of the bench roster.
