Look guys, we will see.    Ohtani hit below the Mendoza line in 2020.  I won’t be surprised if he struggles.

No, but I also don't want to get anyone's hopes up. 
Ohtani's negotiations held up the market, and now free agents are allowing their individual markets to develop. But also, if two teams are offering similar money, the player is more likely to choose a winning team with a strong farm that can infuse excitement and talent. 
Right now, the Angels aren't a winning team, and while O'Hoppe, Neto and Schanuel are exciting, much of the farm is barren. So I'm guessing that unless the Angels offer more money, they probably aren't at the top of anyone's list. And I doubt they're involved in the trade market for guys like Cease or Bieber. The cost will be more than I think they can afford. 
So my guess is they'll round out the roster with some low cost vets. 

I'm even more on board with a Bauer signing now that SO is with the LAD.  But it doesn't seem to be in the cards for Arte.  Missing an opportunity imo.

Agree but it's not hard to imagine that Moreno wants a star's face to go up on a mural where Ohtani's came down.

Same. Gray, ERod, and Lugo were my top three for cost. Now, aside from the Japanese arms, it's like Stroman and ? Wacha? Flaherty? Giolito?

Also I bet KC paid quite a bit to pull him to Kansas City, probably inflating cost. What should've been like a 3/$30m will probably be more like 3/$45m

And here in lies the problem with the organization. Arte needs to give the money to the baseball people and step back. If the coaching staff and the players are in support of Bauer, you make the move. If Washington and/or Trout says they have concerns from the player or coach perspective, you dont do it. Never should it be Arte making this decision. You want players to buy in? Empower them!

I have no problems with this.  It’ll be cool having him still in socal and watching the ohtani crazy circus.  Fun stuff.

But really at that price, even 550, it’s absurd.  I’m just glad the Angels didn’t make the mistake.  We got him for his great years.  Let someone else have the leftover crumbs ala AP.

Nice salary dump/save.  Good move.  I don’t know why some grumps want to whine about.  Kinda funny though seeing crying over it. 

With steroids (mostly) gone, guys don't get better and healthier during their 30-40 years.  So angels got the best and least costly years of Ohtani.  Cool. Now dodgers get years 30-40 at WAY past market value.  Good luck with that.
