Angels in 2030

So far Perry's two FA pitching acquisitions have been pretty bad, outside of one decent Quintana start and a solid start by Cobb against the White Sox what seems like months ago. 

Rod Carew would be hated by the analytical stat nerds of today.  

Or is it just that we can't pitch?

Funny thing is -- technically the runner was outside the proper home-to-1st base lane and was illegally inside the diamond.  

Thing is though, Iglesias’ salary isn’t much less than Hand’s.
Hand handles any situation, whereas Iglesias can’t pitch in non-save spots.
 

It's pretty obvious now that Arte told Perry that he wasn't going to cut payroll like a lot of teams, but he didn't want to go hog either. So with a line in the sand, Perry opted to fill out as many needs as possible instead of sinking big bucks on a couple names.
Hand would've been nice, but the same logic for him would've applied to Paxton, Kluber or Odorizzi, and those would've fucked us. 
I think Perry did about as good as he could have given his limitations in money and numerous needs. Wish he could've pulled a trade for impact, but we have a couple months for that still.

I still don't understand the Angels passing on getting Brad Hand at $10M for one year off of waivers for free (heck -- the rest of the league).  If any team needed to get pick that guy at that point in time (let alone now), it was the Angels.  Especially as bad/thin as their BP looked in the off-season and them knowing we were not getting Bauer.

I guess call me a devotee then because I see 6 runs scored by the opposing team and a loss. Baseball seems to have developed an affinity for bending reality when they don't like it and coming up with all these "what should have been" stats. 

He’s worse than Teheran and all the homers here kept spouting their denial bullshit. The guy sucks and many of us knew it when he was signed, and I hope everyone knows that now.

Poor Barria just sitting in the Alternate site..Even tho he's had two years where his ERA was under 4 as a stater. 

Wow I thought all the Q fans from this off-season would take longer to turn on him.  That took no time at all really.  
I hated the signing and said so - but he can’t be this bad.  

I think the hardest part will be pitching 9 innings. Even if he can and blows through most innings quickly, I have a hard time seeing Maddon keeping him in there for a full game.

Did Ohtani have control issues going back to his days in Japan?  Maybe that's a more recent thing now in the U.S. and with his various injuries (TJ/arm, blisters, etc.) incurred the past few years.  It seems from day 1 in the U.S. he's had control/command issues.

They settle the game on penalty kicks after they play an overtime period. At least give them 12 innings before the baserunner crap

We really need to get these announcers back into the stadium.  I realize it is more than just a couple of dudes and a mic to make this happen, but maybe MLB can step up and help make this happen.  I would assume that each team has a department that travels with the team to make sure everything is working with audio and visual.  Maybe MLB just has the home team make sure the away teams audio guys equipment is working so we really only need the four “on air” guys to travel with the team.  Just a thought.  

I just want Ohtani's elbow/shoulder/arm/fingers to stay healthy. Everything else is a bonus.
Just one season without serious injuries to our pitching staff, that's all I ask for.
 

Statistically speaking it was his worst outing. But in some ways, it was his best - or at least the most promising for future success. In his first two starts he struggled with control and spells of throwing too many pitchers per out, but in this start it was really only the first inning. Meaning, I can see a shorter path from this version of Shohei to the one in which he's got better control and is a true elite starter.

We got a good one with Walsh. We have gotten real lucky with the bottom of the draft with Fletch and Walsh.
