Former Mets GM Jim Duquette on MLB Radio.
He also mentioned a few days ago that he heard there was going to be at least 15 people interviewing for the GM job, and they are at least at 14 now, so that makes me think that the information he's getting is correct since his previous information was also correct.

That might be a real bad idea for him. He's not going to get 18 mil in this market, and his value might decline with the Quality offer.

1- Non-tender Justin Anderson, Matt Andriese, and Hansel Robles. (Amounts to roughly $6.5 million saved)
2- Acquire German Marquez ($7.8M) from COL in exchange for Jo Adell, Jose Suarez, Jahmai Jones, and Hector Yan. (Note: the values didn't match up for this trade, but I feel like Marquez's value may be inflated on the website. The Rockies are getting a consensus top 5 prospect in MLB heading into 2020, a potential back-end starter, and two top 10 Angels prospects.)
3- Sign Liam Hendriks- 3/$36M. (Structure is $10.5M/$12.5M/$13M)
4- Sign Trevor May- 2/$12M. (Structure is $5.5M/$6.5M)
5- Sign Jose Álvarez- 2/$10M. (Structure is $4.5M/$5.5M)
6- Acquire Joey Wendle ($1.6M) from TB in exchange for Keynan Middleton (-1M) and Jose Soriano.
    7- Sign Kevin Pillar- 1/$5M
    8- Sign Alex Avila- 1/$2.5M.

The total money spent is 37.5M, with 7.5M being saved through trading Middleton and non-tendering Anderson, Andriese, and Robles.

A lot of people ask this, but it's really mostly pretty meaningless.
There is one guy who sits at the top of all baseball decisions, and below the owner, and that's what his job is no matter what you call him. President of Baseball Ops, GM or Grand Poobah of Baseball.
The reason for the distinction is often so you can pay a guy more. Or else to poach/prevent poaching from team to team. For example, most guys under contract aren't allowed to leave for lateral moves, but if you're going from GM to PBO, or from Assistant GM to GM, well that's different.
But the Angels will hire someone to head their baseball operations and they'll give him some title. And that guy will hire someone to be his top assistant and he'll also get some title.
Don't get caught up in what those titles are.

I agree with this. Also, it would cost Arte more money to hire both a PBO and GM. So that's another reason as to why it's not gonna happen.

I agree with all of that. I just don't think they will cost much.
If Wong is too expensive roll with C. Hernandez on a 1 year deal, same with Eaton.
But yeah, all of the majority of the money should be going to SP and RP.

I hope so. The GM who comes in isn't gonna be super familiar with the Angels organization, and you would think the more time the new GM has to evaluate his current team, the better.

    Player A: .226/.285/.384, 75 wRC+, -0.5 fWAR
    Player B: .277/.333/.383, 100 wRC+, 0.5 fWAR

Player A is Adam Eaton and Player B is Taylor Ward. Is Eaton really an upgrade over what the Angels have? Maybe if he was super cheap, like 3 million or less. Also, there are rumblings that Eaton isn't the greatest clubhouse guy.

Wong would be a good addition,  but it depends on the cost. Wong at 2B with Fletcher at SS would be outstanding defensively and would be sufficient offensively.

If they come cheap, then the Angels should absolutely go after them. I don't know what the Angels budget is, but they're going to have to be mindful of whatever it is to make sure that they can upgrade the pitching since that's' priority #1.

BTH got a reaction from Torridd in Joel Sherman: Angels new GM will need to find 6-8 new pitchers
No offense to Joel, but I think it's just his own ignorance. If you actually look at the Angels roster, you'd realize they don't need 6-8 pitchers, but I don't think he actually looked at it. He just knows the Angels need is pitching (as everyone knows) and exaggerated the number to make his point or didn't put the effort in to realize that wasn't the case.

The Angels definitely need to upgrade at 2B, but I wonder if they wait out the market to see who falls to them. With money being tight, there may be a lot non-tenders and there could be more options available at 2B than initially anticipated. Hernandez would be good, but they need to be careful with their allocation of resources. They can't be giving Hernandez a ton of money when pitching is the clear need.

Considering that both the Dodgers and Rays are still playing, I can only hope it's someone from one (or both) of those teams.

    Unfortunately, this.
I am trying to find out whatever I can, but someone needs to be willing to tell me, and that’s not happening at the moment.

Based on the fact that I was told “after the WS,” I suspect at least one of the people they want to talk to is working for one of the teams still playing.

I will also add that Soriano's injury may make him MORE likely to be taken in the R5 draft if he isn't protected. This is because teams can stash him on the IL and won't have to keep him on the active roster for the entire season.

It's not gonna happen. He's Arte's friend, going all the way back to before Arte owned the Angels. It'd be better if he was just President of Business Ops, which I think he mostly is. He probably shouldn't be leading the search for a new GM, but they kind of have no choice because they have no one else to do it.

Yeah - I think Byrnes and Neander would be my favorites, given their involvement with Friedman and TB.  Byrnes might be preferred because he has GM experience in the past, but either one would be excellent.
In truth, we probably need to somewhat "operate" like TB moving forward, in that we already have significant money tied up to several players (Trout, Rendon, Pujols/Upton for the next few years, then Ohtani's arbitration years, etc etc).  We need our new GM/President to be creative and find value to complement the core we have.
