I guess that makes it sound cheaper than it was. It was bought in the gold souk in Dubai. It's still a nice ring but probably half what it would cost from an American retailer and besides, she's the type who would prefer a $2,000 ring and a $21,000 check written out to cash. 

If you can afford a $23,000 ring you'd think you could afford a jewelry box.

This has been inevitable ever since you first heard the term "data mining". The part that twists my knickers is trying to say that getting it rubber stamped by a secret court makes it all legal and right. The only way to get rid of it is to make it the core issue. People have to quit voting for pet personal issues or national party affiliation like our Soviet comrades did and vote based on who believes in the Constitution and who is willing to act on that belief.
 
Otherwise, you get professional politicians who vote based on their donor list. Every word out of their mouths is a word that is fed to them by a corporate interest who sees you as a potential market and not a citizen with any rights that you are willing to defend in any real way.

How can 5 trained professional law enforcement officers be expected to handle any situation without using deadly force? Especially if they're questioning someone with a funny name.

Think of all the people you know. Now think about how many of them you would trust to handle your food out of your sight. Now add strangers working for food service wages.

Look at the AL West numbers. The big 3 have essentially scored the same number of runs. The runs allowed is the difference. If the starters continue to keep the BP out of the 6th and 7th innings, the Angels are as good or better than the other two. One. Game. At .A. Time.

This leads to a question that I've always had. Why do so many people feel that public sector employees should take a vow of poverty and be grateful for the privilege? Do you not want highly qualified teachers? Wouldn't you prefer to deal with competent people when you get a driver license or apply for a permit? 
 
I realize there are far too many government employees but I would rather see the numbers cut down and the ones remaining well compensated.

LT we all realize by now that you are an authoritarian lover of the state who believes in controlling every breath that we serfs dare to take but some of us still believe the BS we've been fed since elementary school about freedom and liberty. If you can't make a compelling argument in favor of criminalizing personal behavior then I'll just assume that you've discovered a way to make a dime off of the laws in place and just want to defend your cash cow.

Yes, I read the whole article. According to wikipedia there were 1,793 abortion providers in the United States in 2008. Ten or so unsafe practices does not mean that we are dealing with a nationwide epidemic. I have no problem with people who are against abortion. It's a difficult issue to grapple with. But don't exaggerate the facts. I'm not saying that these are the only corrupt abortion clinics in the country--but they are the only ones mentioned in the article.  10 out of 1,793 is an aberration.  Furthermore, of those ten mentioned in the article, Gosnell's abominable acts are by far the most unscrupulous in nature.  I don't think you can compare the testimony of the poor girl who got victimized by Gosnell to Jayne Mitchell-Wirbrich's vague statement that her clinic in Delaware "was just unsafe.  I couldn't tell you how ridiculously unsafe it was."  Why can't she tell us?  I don't get it.  Is this a news article or a gossip column?  Regardless, I'm inclined to believe, that if there were detached baby feet involved, she probably would have been specific about it.  My point is: yes, it's tragic that "stuff like this," is being "reported across the country."  It's tragic for two reasons.  First, because nobody should ever be violated or abused the way that this Hawkins girl was.  But secondly, this is also a tragic story because it is a misrepresentation of reality and yet another indication that yellow journalism is taking the place of real, objective news. Gosnell's abortion atrocities is an aberration.  It's not a matter of opinion.  It's a matter of statistics.                                     
 

The reason this doesn't get much air time is because every news outlet has already chosen its side in the abortion argument and this does not further either side's case. Much better to keep digging for news in Dagestan where everyone can agree who's the bad guys.
