After losing 3/4 to Baltimore and dropping the first to the Tigers, it should be rather apparent that there is NO major league pitching talent on this roster. We sell.
I would be very surprised if this guy has any long term success. He has two pitches that he has trouble controlling and neither pitch is beyond average.
The A's are a joke. They play this stupid money ball game and every 8-10 years they finally get a good enough team to make the playoffs. Then after 2 years they suck again for 10 years. That is why even when they are winning, there is no interest by their fans.
I agree only if you are referring to the location of the pitch. I dont like throwing at the head region. But a retaliation is necessary for something that violent. This is true in any sport or life for that matter. If you dont retaliate you are giving your opponent a huge advantage and the green light to continue with a given behavior. Now the retaliation should always be appropriate.
I think you have a good point. If this is the end of this, meaning no retaliation from Houston, I think Merisnick really did not mean for this to be intentional. He accepted his fate, so to speak, and prevented further escalation.
Good moment to pay respects to Skaggs and his family. Just could not stop feelings of sorry for them. Hopefully all the love from fans will help them to some degree. And the overwhelming feeling that I hope this is the last such ceremony anyone has to endure.
Worst idea ever. This is no longer baseball. So the batter can decide if they want to go or not. What constitutes if he goes or not? Leaving the box with both feet? One toe on the line? This is stupid, if you cant hit, you dont get to first.
I honestly do not think it matters which strategy you employ with this team because they are inconsistent with the strike zone. You cant really ascertain what they are capable of. Are they strike out pitchers or contact? Do they get ground balls or fly outs? We dont know because they are wild. Most of the time they are down in the count and are forced to throw middle zone pitches that get hit over the wall.
You are definitely right when you say we need him to be fine and he is better than other options but the latter is only true for mediocre teams. Good teams dont have a guy like this on their team. Houston beats us yesterday, despite the offensive explosion, because they can trot out 4-5 elite relievers and we only have 1-2. They will outlast us in every game due to this fact.
Check me on this but I think any success he may have is, in part, due to the manager bringing him in in selective situations. You will rarely see him in a clutch situation because you cant.
