  1. Have you umpired before? I have at both the high school and college levels. This is what we are taught. You can follow the ball alot easier from behind the catcher. And you'll notice that umpires hover above the catcher and are not blocked by them. Have you ever watched?
  2. Yes, absolutely right but the point was to illustrate that unless batters can adjust this current trend continues. I think, however, that if batters could adjust their approach in 0-2 counts to contact instead of drive the ball mode, then maybe, this might cause pitchers to be more accurate based.
  3. This trend wont change until batters learn how to beat this style of pitching, namely stop swinging for the fences. Tony Gwynn, Pete Rose, Rod Carew types are what the league needs. This will force pitchers to take a different approach to getting these guys out.
  4. Gr 3 Sprain: 8 weeks if everything goes well. 12 weeks to heal most often. 12-16 weeks for strength and balance to return.
  5. I did not think you were being a jerk but was embarrassed that I did not know, for the life of me, what an opener was.
  6. I was not being a jerk. But I dont understand what you mean by opener as it regards an umpire
  7. Absolutely you can and you can track the flight better. You are trained to follow the ball with your eyes and box in the flight of the ball with your body position.
  8. It was the era he developed in. Wendelstedt, Brinkman, Freming, Kaiser. These were all no tolerant umpires and that is the way the game was umpired back then.
  9. I see your point and it is valid but I do disagree. A major criticism of baseball is that it is too slow. Taking time out to judge a strike/ball, which most people judge is a non-factor would slow the game down to a intolerable level (this refers to average fans). Also I am of the opinion that this is a human game. Dont robotize it too much.
  10. Impossible to see high and low and follow left to right from behind the pitcher with accuracy. This whole problem is only one of talent. Eliminate the old boys club at Umpire development and actually take the guys with the talent and this problem is over. Also stop employing guys over a certain age and leave it to younger umpires.
  11. Dont want the Dodgers in our division. This team needs pitching. at least 2 more starters and we'll be fine.
  12. Great post. I still dont think we are at are full potential. WIth Upton back there will be more protection in the line up for Trout and Ohtani. If we had one more starting pitcher...
  13. Trout and Ohtani will get locked in but even when they are not they protect everyone in the lineup. La Stella is batting so well due to both of them.
  14. And as you list, rebuilding the farm from the worst in baseball to, what, 5th or 6th from what I saw. This alone gives him credibility.
  15. Come on man. What better to do during half-time than catch a few waves?
  16. Perfect comment. I had the same opinion about Calhoun several weeks ago but it looks like he in turning things around. With Calhoun batting well, and if they remove Cozart, the Angels will have a very formidable lineup. Now for some starting pitching.
  17. We need to hope he continues his pace of the last 10 games because with Kole and Ohtani , we have a formidable lineup
  18. I have to agree. I am a critic of Calhoun but if he continues to make his adjustments and hits the way he has over the next month, then I think they need to keep him. But the league will certainly re-adjust and well see how he responds. Hopefully well because he is easy to root for.
  19. Rehab for UCL reconstruction is at least 6-7 months before throwing is allowed. On very rare occasions, 5 months. Often 9-10 months is needed.
  20. If they can get him cheap but that's a dream. But as said before, his skill set is not worth overpaying for.
  21. And yet, I am not kidding. These pitchers are having a rough go of it this year, I grant but they have also had great years of dominant performance and have won the WS. So my statement regarded their overall value as acquired assets by their GM. And they have more of a chance to come out of their funk, whereas Angels pitchers will likely not.
  22. I agree with your statements but will add that their pitching is leagues better than ours. This Angels team has no real #1 or #2 on the team. The Red Sox and Dodgers pitching staffs are stacked.
  23. Great player, so much fun to watch. It seems like yesterday that they got Vlad.
  24. Looks real good. I hope they keep him up. And thank God he made it home safely after the game.
