EdmontonAngelsFan reacted to Second Base in The Official 2020-2021 Hot Stove Offseason Thread
First time I saw Grease was in the late 1990's and I wasn't quite a teenager. I'd like to think that Olivia Newton John, along with Britney Spears and basic biology had a lot to do with jumpstarting my adolescence.

He's actually about the 3rd-most accurate Mark Healey, well below Mark B. Healey and just slightly behind Mark Q. Healey.

I think I found someone even dumber than Heyman: Bob Nightengale:

Nightengale: Mets have made a record AAV offer to Bauer - they are now the favorites to sign him!
Source: Uh, no, our offer was less.
Nightengale: Oh. Mets clarify their offer is NOT a record AAV to Bauer. They are definitely the favorites to sign him!
Source: Um, that was like two weeks ago we submitted that offer.
Nightengale: Mets gave Bauer a lucrative offer ten days ago. NYC will be great for his brand! They're totally still the favorites to sign him!

So Mets made an offer "weeks" ago.
Yet Bauer hasn't signed.
So who the fuck cares?
Tells us when he signs not who offered what to him..

This is exactly what I’m hoping Perry changes. Better scouting (especially MLB scouts) and development
Eppler got the ball rolling, but work remains to be done.

Batting average still matters.
Also, Cracker Jacks added a toy in their boxes in 1913, pal.

EdmontonAngelsFan reacted to Second Base in Which pitching option would you prefer?
Trade for Gray. The reason why....
1. The Angels have a surplus in terms of OF and can trade from that depth.
2. Gray's salary is low enough that when combined with the money coming off the books from Pujols and Upton, it'll open up the avenue to acquire even more top of the rotation talent via free agency. So in reality, long term is Gray + _______.
3. He's not a rental. Trading for pitchers, particularly at the deadline, come as a rental. He has three years of control and will be someone you build around.
4. He's the #1/2 starter the Angels absolutely need.
5. Length. Specifically, Detmers, Rodriguez and Kochanowicz need at least a year to develop. One for Detmers, two for Rodriguez, three for Kochanowicz. Don't get me wrong, they'll be Major League capable before that, but that's the amount of time they'll need to see the majors, make adjustments and thrive. And for that duration, that's where Sonny Gray will be, leading the staff, mentoring those younger guys.

Whomever it is that we acquire (via FA or trade) for the last SP spot, i simply have one desire: that the guy is signed longer than one year. Then the FO can work on trying to get an extension worked out for Bundy. We're currently in an extremely worst situation next offseason SP wise with only Canning signed (Ohtani too but he's basically the 6th starter). Four SP spots open next year (assuming Canning can stay healthy). One spot likely taken by a rookie. So at least 3-4 open spots.

You know one thing that I've learned throughout these last few free agencies, is just how important it is to devlop.
Developing homegrown talent needs to be prioritized and should be the driving force.
Perosnally i still have or would like to get bauer, but if we don't i take plays B.
For me Plan B is Tanaka, i think he'll be a solid added to the rotation. he's not an Ace, but a solid middle of the rotation arm.
Add Tanaks around 12-15 mil, than use that last bit of money and had another lockdown arm and build the Bullpen.
We have a young Blend of Talent also coming up and/or are close.
With that Talent, and the additions to the rotation, we should be a playyoff team!
I know one of the major concerns is that if we add Tanaka, we'll have four pitchers that will be free agents after the year. i don't think this is a major concern, as we don't really have a big names pitcher as a free agent. On the other side, it opens up payroll.
Not only that, what we should expect Detemrs and Rodriguez to fill atleast two of those spots.

EdmontonAngelsFan reacted to Inside Pitch in The Official 2020-2021 Hot Stove Offseason Thread
People have been reading too much into every single thing that's happened this off-season. I think being locked inside has people's imaginations running wild. It's not just fans -- you got media types making connections based on quotes and snippets from years ago. Today Bauer's vlog had him working out with the Angels strength guy, who he happens to be friends with. I fully expect to people to read into that too.
When push comes to shove this offseason has been a huge ???? across the board. Props to SD for having been active and actually giving both the fans and media something to talk about.

Bauer saga: day 88
