This will probably be Minasian’s one chance to hire his own guy for Manager. He is going to go with someone he is comfortable with. Hopefully his hire has a good plan in place for filling out his coaching staff.

Trout's been out for two weeks he's not been out for the majority, not even close... They have Ohtani. Pujols was 34 in 2014, and likely 38.
You can be an Nevin apologist and I'll be a Scioscia apologist and we'll see what happens in the offseason. I'm actually surprised he's kept the interim job to be honest.

Erstad's record with Nebraska wasn't stellar.
He's got no professional experience. But I liked his attitude as a player. Similar to Nevin's but without major league coaching experience.

No one has called out Jeannie Buss for the Lakers being downright terrible for the past 12 seasons. And dont give me the 2020 Bubble title, that was a fluke, and they continue to make bad decisions.
They wouldn't have won if it was in a regular playing environment. The lack of travel helped them significantly.

I've been thinking for a few days now Biggio seems like an extraordinarily likely return if we dealt basically anyone to Toronto.
Just hope he wouldn't wind up being the next Grant Green/Franklin Barreto.

I am the OP. And to be clear, Ive been posting for 18 years on this site.
Nevin has utterly totally sucked as a manager. The buck stops with him, and I seriously doubt that Maddon would have this team in the same position. I understood why they fired him and I liked him being protective of Trout with the Mariners, but he's gone 16-30 in 46 games. That's worse than any stretch I can remember.
He seems to make weird choices like playing Marsh defensively in Left, when Trout has been out, and playing the worst CF of the three OF (Ward) in CF. Then he'll try something else.
His relief pitching decisions are baffling even to someone who watched Maddon for two seasons. Iglesias should never pitch in tie games. Ever. Peguero sucks in close games too.
The lineup is questionable. The defensive positioning is questionable. Players have long slumps hitting wise and they just keep grinding. Walsh's swing is so messed up right now and Marsh is striking out more than 40% of the time under Nevin.
Players must've been told to take more pitches, and they are watching strike three too often.
    Pinch hitting is questionable.
He has too quick of a hook with starters. Mound visits are non-existent.
Scioscia had his faults, but these last three plus seasons have shown that maybe we all thought he was worse than he was.

I am not arguing any of these points, I just keep seeing the "Trade Ohtani" and reload contingent on here and twitter, and the truth is it doesn't help you reload.
Can they re-allocate their resources differently? Sure. Will that help them win? Maybe.
Do I still want to see Trout/Ohtani/Rendon all healthy and hitting 2/3/4? They also hit 1/2/3 but I think they need to do 2/3/4.
    Yes.
The lineup with Ward/Trout/Ohtani/Rendon/Rengifo/X/X/X/Fletcher would still have three holes to fill but presumably they go to Stassi/Adell/Marsh/and Walsh.
But they need depth, so maybe signing a guy who can play SS and playing Fletcher in the OF sometimes may be a better way to go. Then you have a straight Adell/Marsh platoon at one OF spot with Ward (RF/1B)/Fletcher (2B/3B/SS/OF) and Rengifo (2B/3B/SS) all playing multiple positions. And being depth in case of injury. They also need a second catcher who contributes offensively, as Stassi regressed this year too.

    1) Scioscia managed Ohtani for one season, his rookie year, and he had Tommy John after that season. So, they didn't get to fully explore how to handle him.
    2) Anyone who thinks he is done as a manager is not correct. He may not want to take a non-Los Angeles or Southern California job, seeing as he's spent the past 40+ years in SoCal.
    3) Moreno may look at the past 4 years and think, gee, maybe firing Scioscia wasn't the best idea.

I've made this point a few times, dating back to the Trout trade possibilities.
A team who gives up a superstar, hardly ever gets better, and almost never gets good value.
Griffey to the Reds. Solid depth pieces.
A-Rod to the Yankees. Soriano solid piece, not great.
Cabrera to the Tigers. Not one player was good for Marlins.
Stanton to the Yankees. Castro solid piece, prospects struggled.
Machado to the Dodgers. No one has been good. One minor leaguer is doing ok.
Betts to the Dodgers. Verdugo solid piece, Jeter Downs and Connor Wong struggle in AAA.

Pitcher deals tend to be better for the team that acquires the prospects than position player trades, but we don't know if that will work out either.

I think that's absolutely true. But I think you also have to consider costs. If said superstar costs you 30-40 a year, and you suck everywhere else, versus getting back non superstars that fill more needs and leaves money to spend somewhere else, there's value there.
Superstars I think at this point in sports make sense for great teams, but not a lot for merely decent ones. The only time it helps the little guy is when they're still young and cheap, and have a few other young and cheap stars that come up with them.
At the end of the day, peak Trout is worth the money... but not to our shifty team. Because no matter how good he is, the money isn't getting any more wins, really. Or at least moving the team past Houston (in our case)

Soriano almost had a 40/40 on the Rangers.  Your overal point is valid but I don't think Soriano is a good example.  Also some of those like Arod and Stanton the team trading the superstar is wanting to get rid of huge contract.  That would be more like trading Trout for nothing.

I said pitchers tend to work out better than position players. Segura though was never a star and was moved from the Brewers relatively early on.
I'm too lazy but I bet the times a team has gotten a pick for a player leaving has worked out better. If only for the pick we got for Texiera was Mike Trout.
