  1. He might get around there though. 5/95 for instance
  2. His step back was really just in the beginning of 2019. 2018 and 2017 were good years but he was injured in both. ERA difference between 3.2 and 2.8 in a 200 inning season is like 9 runs.
  3. Bumgarner is just one year older than Cole. He’s not old and declining. He had an injury that he pitched through and once recovered he pitched as well as anyone for the months of June, July, and August. He isn’t Cole or Strasburg, but he’s definitely #3. And if they get Cole for 30ish M, and can get Bumgarner for around 20M, and add Grandal for 16.... yes that’s $66 M to go with the 120 in contracts and 20 in arb, but a little creative bookkeeping in years one and two and they can get this team... is it enough?
  4. After the hype that Doug White came with and his analytical approach I’d love to return to Butcher or Nagy days. In 2011 with two great starters, one good starter, and two mediocre starters they allowed 630 runs under Butcher. (Weaver, Haren, Santana, Pinero, Chatwood). In 2020, with two or three great starters and two or three good starters maybe they can do better. (Cole, Ohtani, Bumgarner/Boyd/Syndergaard/Odorozzi, Heaney, Canning, Pena/Sandoval).
  5. I can see the OF being Trout, Adell, Upton in 2020. Adell did have a great AFL. I can see Marsh up later in 2020, but likely up in 2021. I can see Adams up in 2022. But I can also see one of these guys traded for a starter like Matt Boyd this offseason. Grichuck was in a similar position when they swapped him for Freese.
  6. Ok, Fixed. Acquiring three starters plus a Catcher for Infield/Outfield surplus. It will cost more than $192, though as All three signings probably start $3M higher each, and We'd have to kick in $4M in the Samardizja trade to make the dollars work.
  7. I'd be happy with Bumgarner if Cole signs elsewhere. I think he's a candidate to get less than people expect, and then out perform the contract. 4/84 - 5/120? Sign me up. Heck if possible lets get both, and Grandal. Cole 7/224 incl a 28M signing Bonus. Bumgarner 5/120 with a 15M signing Bonus. Grandal 3/48 with a 8M signing Bonus. 2020 Salaries: Cole 17M, Bumgarner 14 M, Grandal 7M. 2021 Salaries: Cole 21M, Bumgarner 17M, Grandal 15M. 2022 Salaries: Cole 27M, Bumgarner 21M, Grandal, 18M. 2023 Salaries: Cole 29M, Bumgarner 25M. 2024 Salaries: Cole 32M, Bumgarner 28M 2025 Salaries: Cole 34M 2026 Salaries: Cole 36M
  8. Angels: Maddon Padres: Scioscia Giants: Kotsay Mets: Girardi Phillies: Farrell Cubs: Espada Royals: Roenicke Pirates: Ausmus
  9. Don’t understand the Maldonado love. He’s terrible with the bat and his defense has slipped.
  10. Expand to 32 teams. 2 divisions of 8 per league. Play your own division 12 times and the opposite one 6. Play one division in the other league and your rival for a total of 30 games. (12x7) + (6x8) + (30) = 162. 2 Division Winners per league get byes. 4 wildcards per league play one another in a three game series in 3 days. Simultaneously playing some prime time games. 4 Division series start Friday and are 5 game series played in 6 days. Simultaneously playing some prime time games. 2 championship series starts Friday. 7 game series played in 9 days. World Series starts following Tuesday and is played over 9 days. There will be off days over the 27 day Schedule but you get as many as 53 games in 27 days. With 5 off days lol. October Madness feel.
  11. Wish List: Cole, Bumgarner, Grandal, Maddon, Rendon. Realistic List: Cole, Trade for Samardzija, Grandal, Maddon.
  12. I also ran the numbers with our starters and primary rotation pieces and it shows that the pen was even better than advertised and the rotation was worse. Now I had to calculate these out because of the “opener” but our starters and primary rotation guys had the following line: 786 IP, 4.85 IP/GS, 523 R, 499 ER, 805 H, 166 HR allowed, 730 SO to 294 BB, 5.71 ERA, 1.4 WHIP That’s terrible. Also, the opener didn’t help the starters. Pena did much better but he had experience coming out of the pen. Sandoval, Peters did slightly better but the rest of the guys didn’t. It wasn’t a significant improvement. Bullpen numbers 656.2 IP, 1.12 IP per game, 321 R, 345 ER, 4.4 ERA
  13. How many left handed hitters hit 30 or more HR last year in MLB? There were 19. How many are gold glovers? I’m not saying he’ll be back for one more season but he certainly could be retained and then traded.
  14. Right but I could see Calhoun’s option being exercised, signing a starter like Cole, signing another starter, trading for a starter and signing Grandal.
  15. I don’t think they non tender Smith unless they sign a catcher. Stassi doesn’t hit. Remember that arbitration salaries are not guaranteed until day one of the season. They can wait for a hearing and then cut him.
  16. I think he’s gonna spend because he has spent and now has Trout locked up. The reason I think he hadn’t spent recently is because Trout wasn’t signed and they wanted to build a younger core. But now is win time. You don’t invest in a manager like Maddon if you don’t expect to be competitive.
  17. Wish List: Cole, Bumgarner, Grandal, Maddon Realistic List, Cole, Trade for Samardzija, Grandal, Maddon
  18. I don’t think it’s a done deal that the Angels won’t exercise the option and keep him for one more season . Also, this way they get three offensive players for the similar contract value they are currentlypaying one.
  19. I think even someone like Jam Jones gets this done. Maybe they have to add in a lower level prospect. Calhoun’s option would then be exercised by the Giants. Guy hit 30 HR. They’re taking on roughly 28M in Contracts for 18. So the $5 M was to make it even money wise. But perhaps the Angels have to kick in more. Samardzija had a 4.39 FIP so he’s not quite the 3.52 ERA pitcher so... but he threw 170 IP for a mediocre team last year... could be a nice middle of the rotation acquisition and still allow the Angels to go after a bat at a position of need in catcher or third. Also, I’d prefer Bumgarner of course but I’d be happy with Cole and Samardzija especially if they could squeeze in a bat. And I think smith is a free agent but perhaps they have someone else they want to send our way in exchange for a better prospect or someone likeRengifo.
  20. What's a joke about it? Samardizja had a good year last year. I don't want to send Rengifo, Thaiss, or Ward away for nothing, but you have to give to get and the Angels need starters. https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/s/samarje01.shtml Calhoun is valuable to a point, They're eating 1/2 of Cozart's contract, freeing up some money. Giants need hitters.
  21. I’d say that if they go with Maddon, they will hire a bench coach who he grooms. Maybe Chavez is that guy, maybe it’s Bengie or Jose Molina. I’d also think he may bring in Callaway as a pitching coach if he can. He was an excellent pitching coach in Cleveland and of course was on the 2002 World Series Team. (Even though he never had any postseason appearances).
  22. Sign Cole. 24 first two years more after Sign Rendon. 24 first two years, more after that. Trade Cozart, $5M, Calhoun And one of the infielders for Samardzija. $12M for 2020. Sign Grandal. $16M per 3 years. $72M would be a huge increase in salary. Win World Series.
