  1. Tonight they'll probably start Cahill or Peters if they send a guy to the DL. Bridwell started on Sunday for AAA, and Peters on Sunday for the Major League Club. If say Noe Ramirez suddenly accepts his three game suspension they'll call up a reliever as well, but it might be someone like Adam McCreery. They can also grab a guy off the AAA or AA rosters if they need to, but will have to create space on the 40-man. The easiest way to do that is to put Tommy La Stella on the 60-Day IL. He's out for 8-10 weeks from July 2. That means he'd be eligible to come back on September 1st or 2nd. Which is about 8.5 weeks.
  2. I don't really understand why one is held in higher regard than the other. Neither had really hit to a 5 star hit tool in the minors, Thaiss was a first round pick. Jo Adell is light years ahead of both of them, and I think Adams is going to be a better hitter than Marsh.
  3. Agree with Doc here pretty much exactly. 1. Cole is the guy. Expect him to top what the Nationals paid Corbin. Close to $27M per season, probably. 2. I think a trade this season for either Greinke (if the D'backs eat money to get a better prospect) or Bumgarner...trying to bring him in so he makes us his first choice in FA....Either way, they have to spend money. I'd expect Greinke to cost around $20 in Cash, $27 in Luxury Tax (They defer 11M) and $7 in Future payroll per season. He is on the books for $35, so that to me makes sense. D'Backs eat $8 M 4 in Cash per year and $4 in Deferred Cash. Angels defer the other $7. Make sense? Bumgarner also I think costs that, after being chronically underpaid in Sam Francisco. 3. Additional pen depth comes at a cheap price, because they can't spend money if they are committing to $47 M in new starting pitching money. 4. I like the idea of resigning Smith and Lucroy or getting say James McCann. Grandal is a great pick, but he's also gonna ask for $18M a year. 5. I think they may let Calhoun go. Start the season with Goodwin or even Adell. Like the Rendon pivot, but they have a lot of depth in the infield now.
  4. Youre assuming that Marsh is a legit all star from day one. I bet he ends up being more like Calhoun than Trout. More likely, Marsh won't be an everyday player until 2022 at the earliest. Adell will be here in 2020.
  5. I think Ohtani ends up DH'ing 120-135 times a year by that point. You have to figure on a 6 game week, with one scheduled day off, he pitches once a week. That leaves 5 days he could potentially hit. On a 5 game week, with two days off, there are 4. On a 7 game week, with no days off, there are 6. That is the vast majority of weeks. If he pitches Sunday, they have 10 Mondays off this year for example. That means he could hit 5 times on those weeks. (One is All-Star Break, and two have additional days off). So say a total of 45 possible hitting days. On the other 16 weeks, 11 have one day off. 5 are full 7 game schedules. So the 11 is 4 hitting days. And 5 weeks are 5 hitting days. Plus a few more. That's around 110-120 days as a hitter this season, with 27 starts as a pitcher, had he been healthy. This requires him to be the DH on days before he pitches, and ignores the days when they are in NL parks. That means around 35-40 days as a DH, that will yes, likely go to Upton, or Walsh.
  6. I do not think Noe was going for the head, but Marisnick, despite being a good guy, definitely went inside and after Lucroy. If the game wasn't tied in the bottom of the 8th, he probably goes outside.
  7. Upton is going to be in left field until the end of his contract with us. He is here 2020, 2021, and 2022. Maybe in 2022, he loses time to Marsh in left field (or Marsh in Center and Trout in Left). I do not see him playing 1st. And neither do you, because you just said Thaiss or Walsh will get the majority of reps.
  8. It's also worth noting, that Bumgarner would instantly be our best pitcher, by a long shot. We could resign him in the off-season. He's cheap. I was hemming and hawing over Marsh, because while I've seen him mentioned here for years, and I know we're high on him. I'm not moving the goal posts. He is the highest rated trade chip, that we legitimately do not have a place to play. Thaiss was that guy, before they moved him to 3rd, and before they resigned Mike Trout for the rest of his career.
  9. Upton is not a 1B. You have no Catcher. Rengifo at 2nd, Fletcher/Ward/Thaiss/Rojas at 3rd. You forgot Pujols. Marsh does not have a spot on this team until after Upton moves on. 2021 Lineup Fletcher /Rengifo 2B Adell RF Trout CF Ohtani DH Upton LF Pujols/Thaiss 1B Simmons SS (if Resigned) C TBD 3B Fletcher/Rojas/Ward/Thaiss
  10. Agree to disagree. You don't think they're in the position to spend on a rental. I say the guys who are cost controlled are going to be even more expensive (it would cost Marsh for sure, for a guy like Boyd). Plus there is a lot of teams looking for pitching. If they can get Bumgarner AND Smith for a package centered around Jam Jones or Adams, I say do it.
  11. You have to give to get. Marsh is ranked near what the Rangers got for Darvish when they traded him to the Dodgers. (Willie Calhoun) This is nothing close to trading Trout. There is no where to play Adell right now, let alone Marsh. Marsh is in Double A hitting just .797. I'd rather not trade him, but I'd like to go to the playoffs, too. Rosenthal said they could get any pitcher they wanted for him though, so maybe his value is more than I thought. You're probably right that they wouldn't trade Adell, Marsh or Canning for a guy like Bumgarner. But they'd need to give up something, and even for a rental, that would probably be a #4-#10 prospect. Darvish was pitching better (4.01 ERA / 3.38 FIP) than Bumgarner (3.84 ERA / 3.80 FIP).
  12. Not until they suspend Marisnick for 3 weeks. That's how long Lucroy's out because of his intentional rule breaking actions, that should be the suspension. It was not accidental (and neither was the Noe pitch).
  13. I mentioned that. I think this may have still been an out back then as he goes pretty far inside, that's why it would've been borderline legal.
  14. Oh and FYI this play was probably borderline legal a few years back, because I remember Erstad destroying Leyritz I think it was....difference is now the rule's changed. Now the Catcher has to give a path to the plate, which Lucroy does by setting up inside the plate. The Entire outside of the plate is open. The throw beats him, he sees it, two or three steps before he veers inside the line and spear tackles Lucroy. It's a hard nose play sure, but he deserved a suspension at least as long as the time Lucroy was gonna be out. F*ck this guy.
  15. Marisnick also is appealing his suspension. I say hit him again. And Again and Again. Every time he comes up to bat for the time Lucroy is out, you should hit him. You should talk to guys on other teams and hope they hit him too. F*ck that guy. When you knock a player out for 3 weeks on an intentional collision (and it was intentional), you should've been suspended for 3 weeks. Not two games. When a pitcher retaliates, he gets one more? F*ck that. Ramirez needs to appeal.
  16. Yeah agreed. He is deferring $11M per season for both the next two seasons, which helps cash flow. But not luxury tax.
  17. I'd try not to trade Marsh in a deal for Greinke or Bumgarner, but if they could get a legit controllable ace, then it's a different thing. I think Jones is the guy they move for pitching. He's been hot lately I think, and they like Rengifo a lot at 2nd. Unless they think Jones is gonna be at 2nd and Rengifo at SS, but that means no Simmons. And at 3rd, with Ward, Rojas, and Thaiss as controllable pieces, plus Fletcher and LaStella as options... The depth in the infield and in the outfield looks good.
  18. Greinke makes more sense. He's under control for two more seasons, and yes, is owed a lot of money. But if the Angels say took on $27M per year of that for future years, (splitting the deferred money with Arizona 5.5 each, while Arizona also picks up $2M in 2020 and 2021, and got them to take back Cahill and pay the difference they owe for this year's remaining salary) the increase wouldn't be terrible. Eating this kind of money in a deal, leaving the Angels on the hook for say $54 of the nearly $80 he's owed would mean that they would have to part with a decent prospect in return. Would you say trade Jones, Barria, Cahill, and say two lower two prospects for Greinke and basically $25M in Cash?
  19. @Second Base Have you consider optimism? I know the Angels are not necessarily as good as the defending World Champion Boston Red Sox, but in a one game playoff, who knows. They can compete. I said they needed two starters before Skaggs' untimely passing (#RIP45) but I think they're going to have to make do with one or two, not three and have to hope that Harvey pitches well. A rotation of #1 Starter Acquisition, #2 Ohtani, #3 FA Starter/Harvey/Midlevel Guy., #4 Heaney, #5 Canning, #6 Suarez/Pena/Barria/Sandoval/Farmhand TBD is a lot better than relying on the farm to fill out a rotation. I've pretty much given up on Tropeano, Bridwell, and JC Ramirez TBH. And I like Gerritt Cole Since he transformed in Houston, but there will be a lot of competition for his services. If they acquire a guy who is controllable for 2-3 more seasons after this one, it would be a boon to this year and next. If they get a rental, they'd be forced to try and bring him back and/or get a guy like Cole, and/or resign Harvey. My picks are the same as they were a month ago. Madison Bumgarner and Zack Greinke. Packages for either guy aren't going to be elite top prospects because Bumgarner isn't quite the guy he used to be, but at 29 is still salvageable. Greinke is 35, is owed over $75M and has a 15 team no trade clause. It's gonna take a decent prospect, and a few lower tier guys. Similar to the Yu Darvish trade. A guy at the bottom of the top 100, (Willie Calhoun), and two lower tier guys should get it done. Darvish was also pitching better than Bumgarner. If they added in Lefty Will Smith, it would be a similar haul, maybe a bit better than the package the Rangers received for Darvish. So, say: Jordyn Adams or Marsh (as thy both rank in the 90's) or Suarez plus Luis Garcia & two guys in the 20-40 prospect range for Bumgarner AND SMITH. For Greinke the haul may have to include some salary offset, mainly Trevor Cahill. I'd expect Arizona to eat some money if they want a prospect better than say Barria as the centerpiece of the trade. Say they eat the deferred money, then you probably part with Barria and a guy like Jones. Maybe a guy like Taylor Ward too. If Thaiss is gonna be at 3rd, along with All Star 30 year old LaStella, and Rengifo plus Fletcher, I don't know where they all play. Thaiss being a left 1st and 3rd guy helps significantly, but there is a lot of depth to part with. But you'd be getting two of the best pitchers in Greinke, and Bumgarner, plus a solid reliever in Smith. Yes you'd be taking on some serious salary for 2019.
  20. Wrong... that was my point. A's team could've won 91, and still been the 2nd WC. Thanks @Lou
  21. Also Bungarner can likely be had for less, maybe a pitcher like Suarez and a bat. He’s a FA next year
  22. This is almost correct, the deferred money is I think 10.5M in 19, and 11M in 20 and 21. The Angels would be on the hook for around $80M (16 for 1/2 of 19, plus 64 for 20-21) with $27 (5.25-11-11)of that deferred. I’d imagine they ask for the D’backs to accept lower level or lower ceiling prospects instead of the upper tier guys if they eat all the money.
  23. I just want a Navy Top with Red lettering like the early 90’s Jerseys. No more Road Grays. White pants
  24. Also, in 2017, the 2nd WC had 85 wins, and the third place team was at a tie for 80.
  25. Technically the 2nd WC team DID have 97 wins, but the third place WC team finished with 90. So it would've only taken 91.
