That roster was kinda pathetic. To blame a lack of post season success on a manager when He has a roster like that is sad. The fact the angels made the playoffs that year with such a roster should be celebrated. Name a manager who would have had post season success with the roster the angels have had in the past 5-7 years? And tell me how that’s Scioscia’s fault again?

Well, when your team juggernaut hits like this, its tough to make the games longer.

So the 19 years prior to Scioscia this team had 11 or 12 different managers.   Prior to Scioscia this team was well under .500 as a franchise, and we were basically cellar dwellers most of the 14 years leading up to his being hired.  Under his leadship he helped lead the team to have a career record over.500, one of only a handful of teams in MLB history to have a winning franchise record.  This team was a revolving door of manager after manager, which does not allow for any continuity for an organization.  He is by far the best manager this organization has ever had.
We have a handful of individuals on here who lack perspective and don’t understand things like this.  That group of people instead of saying anything remotely respectful towards a guy who helped bring the Angels out of obscurity would rather use this forum to continue to be douchebags.  I too am ready for a change, but I won’t ignore what he has done for the team.  If you can’t see what he has done for the team, that is on you and not on anything Scioscia has ever done or said.
Good luck Mike.  I look forward to your number being retired.

Where does this rank on best days of the franchise? This loser has been holding the franchise back for awhile.

I’ve kinda felt that this would be Scoscia’s last season. I don’t know why but I’ve just felt he may have become just a little bored with the job. As a Lasorda and a “Dodger Way to play baseball” disciple  I also feel that the game has evolved beyond him. My own feelings about his time at the helm have been mixed. He’s the winningest manager in club history. The skipper who led the team to its only World Series win. There have been good seasons and disappointing ones. This one included. But I will always feel that the season where he did his greatest job was the season of the Nick Adenhart tragedy. Scioscia kept that team together. But mostly he kept the season respectful. Respectful for the fans. Respectful for the players. Respectful for Nick’s family. Respectful for Nick. Say what you will about the man, but there’s not many who could have done that.

Sosh has been the manager for pretty much my entire tenure as a fan. Technically I started "following" during the early nineties but was too young to really remember much. I do clearly remember 1995 bringing the suck. But 2000 was when I started getting truly invested in how well the team was doing and knowing all the players and all that.
When 2002 happened, I was definitely blessed. I certainly hadn't carried the burden of disappointment on my shoulders the way my dad had, and the way so many of you had, but it was still an incredibly special moment that I'll remember and cherish for the rest of my life. Scioscia was right there in the middle of it all.
In a sense, Mike Scioscia is more synonymous with the Angels than anyone, at least from my perspective. Not Percival, not Erstad, not GA, or K-Rod or Weaver. Not Salmon. Mike has been in the dugout since I was an annoying, bratty kid. He was there through the good and the bad. Though we tend to forget just how much good there truly was.
His decisions have caused so many emotions over the years. Mostly frustration. Sometimes anger. Other times complete confusion. But another one has consistently hidden in the back of my mind, and it's shame. No, not shame for Mike or for the team, but for myself. It's natural to completely overlook decisions a manager makes that ultimately help the team. In fact, we often see something good happening IN SPITE of his decisions. But the shame I've felt has been through all my years of complaining over every little decision, every lineup, every pitching change, and never did I think to correct myself when his decisions worked out. Considering his career record, I'd say he made the right decision more often than not. After all, he was the manager. Not me. There's a good reason for that.
Anyway, while I am fully on board with getting a new manager and moving on from Scioscia, I can't shake this bittersweet feeling that tightens around my chest. It's time to move on. It's time. But I will always respect Scioscia as the greatest manager in Angels history and the only manager to lead this team to a World Series ring.
For better or worse, the dugout won't be the same without him. And neither will the Angels.

"our bullpen is crap! . . . Eppler is an idiot for not addressing this in the offseason . . . I'm sick and tired of him trying to find BP arms by dumpster diving!! . . . We don't have a chance of making the postseason with these bums!
"why didn't Eppler trade any of our relievers???

This team can be better than Oakland and Seattle has proven to be streaky as hell.
The Angels just need a winning streak and they’ll catch up no problem.

I know this will come as no surprise to anyone, but I am a little more optimistic than that.  He has solved his issues of being a dead pull hitter and is hitting the ball the other way.  Even if he is his normal self then you can pencil him in for a 2.5-3 WAR season?  I think he is capable of that.  I have a lot more faith in him producing than I do Hermosillo and or Blash.  There also is no real reason to upgrade the position because of the glut of outfielders we have coming up in the next 2-3 years.

Why? He would have a fairly reasonable price tag, he is friends with Trout, and it would improve our offense and allow us to sign other pieces. I do not see Moreno allowing us to go very far over the tax to become contenders. I know Donalson has injury concerns. But a comprobable contract to Cozart would allow many other signing. He could even split time at first with Pujols. If we are set on not trading our prospects ( As the consensus on here feels we should not, even though for the right trade I would) what other options do we have to put a contender on the field immediately. That is the purpose of this thread, to discuss what we can do to make us contenders in one offseason.

Valbuena seriously pisses me off as much as any angel ever has. I would have rather seen Espinosa, Mathis, or Nava batting in that situation.
