GrittyVeterans got a reaction from Amazing Larry in Billy Eppler's whiffs on acquiring starting pitching
My big concern is the lack of progression on the farm in the upper minors. The farm system he inherited sucked, we all get that. He wasn’t going to turn lemons into lemonade in a year. But 5 years later I was really hoping we’d have a solid amount of guys in the high minors ready to come up and make an impact. I’m not seeing the massive improvement in farm quality that some are stating, really. It’s clearly better than the Dipoto days. 5 years of losing you would think we’d have a top 10 farm at least.

its true some of the reason why we don’t have a great farm is because we’re always trying to win with Trout and are never really being true sellers(not selling Simmons last year for example)
but why is it that certain teams that have been winning And looking to bolster their current team the last 4-5 years STILL have a better Farm than us.
to me that is an indictment on the scouting and the inability to evaluate and then develop talent, whether it’s from the draft or from the international pool
thats why I feel like we’re in purgatory right now as a franchise. The money is already spent so it’s impossible now to upgrade the team through free agency. And we don’t have the talent coming up through the minors to get better on our own. That’s the main reason why we’re in huge trouble the next 3-4 years I think

They should've done a full rebuild in 2010/2011. Once they didn't they pretty much locked themselves into this path they are currently on. Maybe if Albert lives up to the contract and Hamilton doesn't relapse things go a little different.

It’s too bad we’re too deep into the mess to just do a full rebuild. Watching the White Sox and Padres tear it up this year is frustrating

This is a great post. You'll notice that none of the Snow Patrol reacted with facepalms or negative emojis because they couldn't argue with it.

Yup... This team should be two years into it's window and here we are talking about the team needing to rebuild.

The radical left is going to take any opportunity to push their politics on us. It’s up to the rational moderate people that remain to reject it.
the major scary part about it is that you are now vilified and condemned unless you take a strong stance to the left on it.
This will only get worse as the mob continues to radicalize more (mostly young) people

The #1 overall pick in the draft is the only possible remaining great thing to come of this shitty season. Hoping for that

I guess that's one way to look at it. I see a team that now has questions in the middle infield, at first base, in left field, in right field, the lineup quality overall, Ohtani, the entire starting rotation, and the bullpen. Too many question marks to think they could be competitive next year.

This team is in a real rough spot now... this season has created far more question marks than answers.

After passing Mays hopefully in September, what records are there for him to realistically get to now. He’s not passing Aaron on the RBI list and has no chance at Really getting to 700.

that was kind of my point of starting the thread: he’s mostly done or will have done the records Arte and him wanted. Where do you go from here?

We had one this year that they just traded away(which was fine given where we are in the standings).
But yes, the new GM will need to acquire someone better than him, which shouldn’t be hard but was also a massive failure by eppler

I think you guys have to stop including Shohei Ohtani in the potential pitching depth chart for the next 3 years.  As depressing as that is to say

How are there like 4 sellers in all of baseball and we still can't find a deal for our expiring contracts?

You know i hear all the time how valuable Simmons is.  We’ll see about that.  There’s no way they just don’t get anything because Fletcher is out for a few days.  Who gives a shit. We’re basically a last place team.

The biggest indication that Eppler won’t be here is that his contract wasn’t extended during the coronavirus.
like him or not, I’m simply stating that you usually don’t see a Gm get to the end of their contract and then return to the same club I don’t think. Maybe there are a few examples of this that I’m unaware of though?

Of course not. They should be getting what they can for anyone that’s an FA next year. They did it with La Stella and Castro so far and need to do it with at least Simmons still.
The issue is that the Gm is on his way out and might not have the leash to get creative
