They have 120 million committed to 4 position players next year
2 of those players are great and 2 of them are really bad.

They have no chance of turning this around so you might as well get the #1 overall.
Even the announcers are turning on the team. They're usually 2 of the biggest homers

What sort of message would it send to fans and players alike if you trade your consensus best prospect after twenty or so games?
Adell has been hyped for years, and letting Calhoun go was just a necessary roster move to keep right field warm for him. We're those years of scouting reports and close observation so incredibly wrong? All his tangible were measured and evaluated inside and outside the organization. No red flags about intangibles. His learning curve was progressing normally. His coaches must have recognized strengths and weaknesses.
Yet the minute he put on a major league uniform panic set in because he didn't immediately play as anticipated. So much has been invested in his future, yet a few weeks of play are being used to rush to final judgment.
This is absolutely the worst time to even think of trading him. If other teams see the Angels as that desperate then there is no leverage at all. You just have to give him time and live with the growing pains. Many stars have had rough rookie seasons.
Based on all data he eventually be at a solid player. Maybe then trade him if he doesn't become a dominant player. But by then the team will have some leverage.
Fans lierally spend years analyzing each bit of minutia pertaining to the team's prospects. And then after a week or two in the big leagues become disenchanted with any signs of a slow learning curve.

I think you guys have to stop including Shohei Ohtani in the potential pitching depth chart for the next 3 years.  As depressing as that is to say

    Someone fill me in here.
Why would the Blue Jays want Simmons when they have Bichette?
Bichette is better than Simmons already and is 22 years old. I don't get it

I understand that. I'm on your side. I'm simply stating that Yelich (even at his Miami level of production -- which was actually about 4 WAR per season the 3 years prior to being traded) would have been a much better return for Adell than a 20 year old SS prospect that was ranked as about the 35th best prospect in the game.
If I'm trading Adell I better be getting a guaranteed quality major league player under the age of 27 that is under club control for at least 4 years. Yelich fit that bill. I was personally against it at the time also though
In other words, I am not trading him right now. Certainly not selling low right now for some other prospect that was ranked by all the pundits as being worse 5 months ago

You guys all sure turned on Adell remarkably quickly. Almost everyone was against trading him for 5 years of Yellich at a ridiculously cheap price. And now want him traded for another prospect(Groshans?) that was lower ranked 4 months ago? Seems absurd to me to change your mind that radically based on 20 ballgames

Of course they aren't. But you might as well get what you can. Get the best AA reliever the Jays are willing to give up and call it a day. I don't see Simmons being re-signed at this point anyway. The Angels just can't afford to commit more money to a dude over 30 that's not a pitcher.

I completely agree with you I'm not arguing that we shouldn't trade our players if we can't get a top 100 prospect. I am just tempering expectations so people don't get pissed that if we trade Simmons all we get is an upside bullpen arm when an upside arm in the pen could be extremely beneficial.

There are a few players in this league that will not be traded, Trout, Tatis and Bichette are amongst those players.

He’s injured.  I don’t get it either, unless it is just insurance in case the injury is worse than expected.  Additionally the cost to acquire him won’t be much and they have a deep farm.

I do worry about his confidence a little bit. I don’t like the fact that he botched a ball over the fence Canseco style and has dropped easy fly balls. I don’t like the fact that he’s being blown away by fastballs down the middle.
Sure, he needs to play and get reps but at a certain point there has to be diminishing returns to that if he isn’t ready for it mentally or physically

You don’t want him to start to overthink things. It’s only going to lead to more problems.

We obviously have to be patient but I’m definitely in the ‘slightly concerned’ group of fans. This level of sucktitude from a prospect is not something we’ve really seen since Brandon Wood. And it’s not his fault but It’s a little scary

They’re completely out of the race now. Might as well go 20-40 overall and get a top 3 pick. Need to go 11-19 the rest of the way or worse. Very doable for this group

Yeah he looks terrible out there
Selling low on him would be a total disaster for this franchise though. The time to move him was when he could have hauled back a Yelich or a Betts. They chose to hang onto him. And you just can’t move him now. It is what it is. Hopefully he figures it out or we’re in even bigger trouble

I think he’ll still be here but the leash is getting shorter. He’s been here for 5 years now and we haven’t made the playoffs or shown tangible improvement really.
he’s done some things well and others very poorly.

I’m not advocating for him to spend money but I would certainly rather have any of the kids on the roster than Pujols. Not even a question for me
  25. Thank You
GrittyVeterans got a reaction from Claude in If you had total control, what 3 things would you do immediately?
The idea that they have to be on the 25 man roster is where you miss the boat. Particularly with Pujols. Pay him his cash and get him out of here. He’s been a below average player since 2017. This year so far he is completely worthless. At 41 years old he’s not going to provide value. Stop wasting a roster spot on a known worthless commodity. The money is a sunk cost obviously

Upton I agree we still have to see if he’s really this worthless. He’s probably going to be here next season
i 100% agree with you on the money though. Arte And the angels are going to have to pay it. No one is taking on a contract like that. Unless we attached Adell or Marsh to them. Which isn’t happening either
