  1. Still have Pujol's stupid money for 5 more years. It is still going to take stupid money to compete. The cost of starting pitching is through the roof and the Angels are a few years away from having pitching depth in the system to feed the major league club.
  2. Pujols just had surgery on his foot. He will be the primary DH with Cron playing first most of the time. Revere will rotate around the outfield and should get 350+ AB. Pujols may be a le to play 50 games at first at best.
  3. A 31 year ole righty reliever. Pitched for the Cubs AAA and was released and signed by the Brewers. Bad peripherals, looks like a dirty peanut!
  4. My guess is that Eppler will wait out the market and sign a guy in Jan or Feb for one year or on a minor league contract. Same for a fourth outfielder.
  5. Depends on how many innings some of these college pitchers throw. Aces tend to get overused. I worry about future performance and injuries with these types.
  6. I think it is pretty obvious that Eppler is working eithout much money to spend. I have a feeling that Arte has put a cap at about 165 mil. Eppler will have to settle for cheap second baseman and fourth OF.
  7. Overrated-tie between Vernon Wells and Hamilton Underrated- Benjy Molina Overrated-Huston Street Underrated-Jefry Marte
  8. You don't want to put in a Claim on him. He is due about 8.2. mil for next season, his last year of arbitration. There will be other clibs interested in him for a much lower amount when he is a free agent.
  9. The Wahoos have dominated in every aspect of the game in this series. Forget the regular season, the Cubs have failed to adjust at the plate and have lost all semblance of the strike zone. The Indians' bullpen is far superior and for the Cubs to have a chance they would need to score early against Bauer and Tomlin and hope that Lester and Arrieta are exceptional. The best team doesn't always win but the team that is solid on defense and pitches well usually does.
  10. I think it is pretty ovvious what Scioscia thinks of Cowart. To start Pennington at second base at this time of the season, after having been eliminated, is ridiculous. I think that Cowart will be a throwin in an offseason trade.
  11. DiPoto made it clear that trading prospects for major league parts was the foundation of his philosophy. This could work if you have a Texas or Houston type system well stocked with high end prospects. However, the Angels system was anything but well stocked. I think that Dipoto saw Albert and Trout as the core of a championship team and not much else would be needed. All his little trades of minor leagers gutted the system so that when Albert broke down there was no backup. Eppler seems to have a good eye for clean peanuts. That plus good drafts and signing international FA, will rebuild the system. Hopefully witin two years we will start to recover.
  12. Their delusion has been transferred to Seager.
  13. Obviously, the contract is a burden but a relatively healthy Albert is an asset to any lineup. As for his batting average, very few players increase their batting average as they age into their mid 30s. Generally, you have to start your swing sooner because the reflexes are a little slower. Power hitters especially tend to become extreme pull hitters. When Albert was mashing for the Cards he would use the whole field. Those days are long gone, hense the shifts are way more effective now. He still remains a very productive hitter relative to his age and health. Of all the Angels' problems Albert is way down the list.
  14. With Pennington and Petit getting most of the starts at 2nd it is not that surprising. Escobar getting a concussion while trying to bunt would be more surprising if he were on any other team. Hope Cowart can show something.
  15. The odds of being able to acquire enough talent to compete in 2017 are incredibly slim. I would only sign or trade for young talent. The chances of fielding a quality team in 2017-18 are not strong. There is a need for at least 4-5 decent pen arms 2-3 starters and of course the black hole in left field. You have to hope that some of the young pithers in the minors can help the pen. Trade Escobar, Street and all others except Trout, Calhoun, Bedrosian and maybe Simmons. The new scouting director needs to be effective in picking high upside prospects and for heaven's sake, hit the international market hard.
  16. I don't need analytics to show me hoe bad Timmy is. My eyes work just fine. Between he and Nolasco you would need a ten man bullpen. Nice early career Timmy, but dude you are toast!
  17. After he handed The Red Sox the game on Sunday I doubt that Eppler fielded any calls on him. He is all ours.
  18. While it is nice to see the team playing better this is not sustainable with this group. A realistic goal for this season is .500. On the other hand to build for the future, it would be better to finish in the bottom ten and get another solid draft. Trade Street, Smith and possibly Santiago. Keep Escobar. He has been very consistent and is an outstanding leadoff hitter. It would be hard to imagine Cowart performing to even half of Escobar's numbers ( except defensively of course).
  19. There isn't a club in MLB that would not take Sale in an instant. This is an isolated incident that may be a reaction to losing.
