25,000 bail, wtf texas?
"sexual abuse of a child under 14" is a penal code term and not just a description of the charge. there are 8 violations in the texas penal code that fall under this charge, none of them are even remotely ok. i can't believe the bail amount, that's a 2500 bond, ridiculous.
i think john is going to be sweating through his baseball cap in a texas prison.

Without going into too much detail, I know for a fact Trout wants to stay here. And that both sides are in discussions for a mega contract.
That said, the last I asked about it was a months back. Maybe something has changed.

He’s full of shit.  I’ll take Flether’s word over the word of a guy that might spend one day a year in our clubhouse.

i agree with all 3 posts in every regard, but i also think that mlb needs to get rid of guaranteed multi-year contracts. i don't think a guy should be guaranteed for the near entirety of his career. i would not have a problem with the owners going to a work stoppage over their own sense of inequity.
in the new CBA, i would like to see a payroll floor. i want to see greater movement of players earlier in their career. i want to see milb players get paid a professional living wage, not a part of the mlb cba, i know.

Maybe only something like lowering original club control from 6 to say 4 years could prevent it from getting ugly?

I’m pretty convinced that we’re going to see a significant work stoppage.  It’s going to be ugly. The MLBPA is going to go to war over this.

one time i was playing poker and a guy took down a pot of only blinds and i jokingly said, "nice pot" and he quips back at me, "what did you win?". i always think of that when i feel a compulsion to defend myself.

only if he falls off a literal cliff will he be looking at 9 or 10 million next year. he's going to end up with more money over 4 years than the 60 million he would have got from the mets. he'll just be incurring some injury risk on that money since it's not guaranteed past this year, at the moment.

i think it's pretty bad to give up a 2nd round pick and whichever int'l players you could have had for one year of a good catcher.

Judging from this off season it appears that team owners concur with this sentiment

I’m going to go back to the loss of draft pick and loss of international money.  Can you imagine paying $18 million for a catcher for one year, and losing the draft pick and international money.  One year?  I would understand losing that for a longer term on a better player, but not for one year of a good but not great catcher.

Maybe y'all haven't paid attention to how far off a cliff Longoria has fallen. 
Last season Albert Pujols out performed him in OPS+.
Let that sink in. 
Albert should retire, his career has cratered, he is effectively done by most standards.
Longoria had a worse year. 

I’d be shocked if Goldy isn’t signed to an extension.  If Harper doesn’t end up back with the Nats they will re-sign Rendon.  

Call it completely wishful thinking, as im sure it is, but the only way this thing with SF makes any sense at all is if we are completely lying in the weeds trying to do something crazy in 19/20.
Why else would we be in this right now for 2 guys that wont be here whenever the whole top 5 farm things hits?  Why would we take on Longorias money for that as he certainly wont be part of that puzzle.
To me that sounds like a move you only make if you are about to go ham.   The fact that they are in "constant" contact is maybe like "well do this if we get this other tihng done?"  
As said probably nonsense but does it make sense otherwise?

I've touted Longoria's durability and reliability before, but I'm not sure on this one guys. He walked 22 times last year in 500 PA. His OBP was .281. His BB% has been steadily declining for eight straight seasons. It was 4% last year. Mike Moustakas, he of 'Oh what terrible OBP' fame had a 10% BB rate last season. 
I know the NL West is a tough division for hitters, but he'll be 33 and we'd have him on the books for four more seasons and $62m. 

I think I'd rather sign Moose and shell out the difference for Ottavino or another vet reliever, keep Cozart, and then throw a couple decent prospects at SFG for one of them instead.

you don't need a mentor on the roster, you need good relievers.
if you're in need of showing the young guys how to be better, hire a better coach.
