  1. Depends on the situation. If he’s in a position to drive in runs, then by all means. He doesn’t need to chase, but in those instances he also doesn’t need to be taking a pitch trying to walk if it’s an inch low or an inch outside. There have been plenty of at bats where there’s been a man in scoring position and two outs, with first base open, and he ends up walking. Not because they pitched around him by not giving him anything to hit, but because he got the benefit of the calls on pitches that could have gone either way, but were extremely hittable especially for him. He’s got to realize that working a walk there doesn’t help especially with the struggles of the guy behind him. I’d rather him take a shot at driving a ball that’s barely out of the zone low than letting it go, taking a walk, and they end up not scoring anyway.
  2. Astros teeing off on a Dodger pitcher? Sounds familiar.
  3. Then you read the wrong article, because that is exactly what’s in it. https://theathletic.com/410476/2018/06/27/patrick-eaves-on-his-life-changing-illness-and-the-road-to-recovery/
  4. I would pay good money to hear Dave Sims’ call of that home run.
  5. Fontana has a noodle arm. He’s about as desirable as the city he shares a name with
  6. Not much different than several of his SLC starts this year. Likely just managing his innings/pitches knowing he will be pitching for the Angels next week.
  7. Someone like Leonys Martin would work. He kinda sucks but if you squint real hard he’s the type of player that could be just good enough and just versatile enough to fit temporarily then be a good role player if everyone’s healthy.
  8. Is it just me or did he do that workout in khakis?
  9. In other news, the Mariners have selected nothing but college players so far, something the MLB.com guys went out of their way to point out and question on the broadcast today. Never change, Dipoto.
  10. I think it'll be similar to what we ended up doing with Torii Hunter Jr. We signed him, with the understanding that he would finish his senior season for football, then start his baseball career after that.
  11. Did a camera go out? Every time a fly ball is hit we’re getting a low angle shot from behind the plate.
  12. No it’s called missing your spot. Maldonado is not calling for a hanging breaking ball or splitter right down the chute.
  13. WTF are you even talking about? If Ohtani does in fact throw a mistake pitch that ends up right down the middle on an 0-2 count, it isn’t because the catcher told him to. Your bias is way too obvious.
  14. Yes, other than the fact that Maldonado has caught him every game except one.
  15. The only reason they left him in was because he could get a save by finishing the game, which is stupid. There’s no reason for him to throw 30+ pitches in a game where we’re ahead by 6.
  16. https://twitter.com/anthonyfenech/status/941126751496933376 Wilkel Hernandez and Troy Montgomery
  17. It says right there in the article that this medical report was distributed to teams after he was posted. So literally every team knew what this “breaking news” says. No idea where anyone gets the idea he or his agent was hiding something.
  18. What I would like to know is how the Yankees can take the payment from the Marlins (30 million) off their luxury tax number if it’s conditional on him not opting out? What if he does opt out... when does the lack of payment figure into their salary numbers? Basically what I’m asking is how can the Yankees get a credit towards their luxury tax number contingent on something that hasn’t happened yet?
  19. For th Braves prospects, you can use either this year’s pool or next year’s. Up to you. You just can’t combine the two. The Maitan deal won’t be official until he takes his physical, which likely won’t be until Ohtani has already decided.
  20. What if the extra million wasn’t to offer Ohtani more but a fallback in case we don’t get him? If we don’t sign him, we can cover Maitan’s bonus from this year’s pool and still have our entire allotment for next years’s crop of international FA. If we didn’t get the extra million, Maitan’s bonus has to come from next year’s pool which limits our options if we don’t get Ohtani.
  21. They could have also used next year’s pool money for Maitan.
