  1. I went into accounting because when I was younger it was mentioned as a stable career. I stuck with it because with the way my brain works it made sense to me. My only advice if you're planning to major in accounting is advice my auditing professor gave our class - if you're majoring in accounting you should be planning to at least sit for the CPA exam. Outside of that I would say to major in something you get some kind of joy, satisfaction or whatever else it is you want out of your career because you might end up doing it or something related to it for the next 40+ years. That said the trick is also finding something you can hopefully make a living off of.
  2. Thanks for the heads up. I remember seeing Come and See listed as one of the best war movies ever in various articles but at the time it wasn’t streaming anywhere. According to IMDB they wanted to hypnotize the main character through the violent scenes so as to not screw him up but he wasn’t susceptible to hypnotizing. By the time the movie was finished shooting supposedly his hair had started to grey. Another one I want to see which I think was a made for tv movie is Shot Through The Heart which was about two friends who are snipers on opposite sides of the war in Sarajevo. Haven’t been able to find that yet.
  3. Started Warrior again now that I have HBO while season 3 starts soon. Watched almost the first season of Banshee and will likely get back to it at some point.
  4. CA budget deficit bigger than initially reported: https://www.yahoo.com/finance/news/california-governor-likely-announce-bigger-042729455.html
  5. We also have a lot of assholes behind the wheel. Right before the pandemic we were in Europe on a two lane road and one of the lanes had a sign overhead that said there was an accident up ahead and to keep the right lane open for emergency vehicles. Not one car was in that right lane and everyone was sitting in the stopped left lane not honking their horn or getting mad. In the last few months I’ve been almost ran into or run off the road by by people who refuse to merge like the other 90% of us and in a few cases people who were driving on the shoulder just to get 20 feet further up. I’ve also noticed more people riding at a high speed on electric bikes. This morning a few kids almost ran over small kids on the beach trail. Posted speed limit is 10mph when there’s no walkers or runners and 5mph when there are and there’s inevitably always a few who ride like they’re the only people there. This summer as beach traffic picks up I expect there will be some nasty accidents involving electric bikes and pedestrians. Just posting this makes me feel old but I think some of it is just slowing down and not being in a hurry as you get older. That said I feel like America has a disproportionate share of narcissistic assholes among first world countries.
  6. Even with higher rates where home prices are near me I'm convinced some people buying are immediately house poor. We were looking 5 years ago and based on prices/rates then places that would have cost under $5K a month all in are $8K+ a month now. Between what we paid for our place and our under 3% rate there's no way I can justify making a move unless there's a sizeable correction. Glad we have our place but I imagine most people growing up in the area are priced out by a long shot unless they have family money.
  7. You can't go wrong with Turtle. Not surprisingly my options were pretty limited finding decent quality gif's for a 30+ year old movie that the were probably more VHS copies of than DVD's floating around of.
  8. The jets have averaged 6 wins a year for the last 12 years, only had a record above .500 once during that span and the last time they made the playoffs was 2010 when butt fumble was their QB. They had a top 5 defense last year as far as yards and points allowed go. They likely aren't a threat to Buffalo winning the division but if Rodgers still has something in the tank and the defense is anything close to what it was last year they definitely have a shot at the playoffs. Unlike the packers I'd expect the jets to use more draft picks to give Rodgers some help likely going o-line at 15. Time to see what Love can do in GB and that franchise might find out for the first time in decades how hard it is to find even an average QB.
  9. Proper fucked https://www.yahoo.com/finance/news/us-budget-deficit-hit-staggering-194000510.html
  10. The government will definitely turn things around. https://www.yahoo.com/finance/news/watchdog-us-government-made-247-223000050.html
  11. Reminds me of a story a friend who lived in Long Beach about 20 years ago told me that I think I've mentioned on here before. The friend is the type who gets along with everyone and the gang members living on his street were always cool with him and they'd shoot the shit over beers. One day he saw a few of them and asked about a guy he hadn't seen in a while. Apparently the guy fell asleep in his car one or two streets over which was another gangs street and got shot and killed. You know it happens over less even but if you don't grow up in that situation it's crazy to think that turning down or ending up on the wrong street could cost you your life.
  12. Liked him in the Wire, Fringe, Bosch, voice over work and some other shows and movies he was in. Reports currently say “natural causes” but I always thought that was something you heard more when someone passed at an older age. Unexpected at least to those who didn’t know him makes me think something like cancer but doesn’t matter now. RIP.
  13. Most guys accused aren't in the same situation as the Duke lacrosse team financially when false accusations are made against them. Brian Banks was falsely accused, spent over 5 years in prison and another 5 on parole wearing an ankle monitor as a registered sex offender. It cost him years of his life, the chance to play football at USC and a shot at maybe going pro some day. The girl that falsely accused him was awarded $1.5M from the school district and they have no chance of getting any of it back now even though they won a judgment against her. I'd bet most people in his situation make headline news when the accusations are made but it's back page news when they're exonerated.
  14. It’s a stop gap signing that can give them production close to what Carr did at a lower cost. If a QB they want falls to them at pick 7 they can draft him to hold a clipboard and cut ties with Jimmy G after next season. That said I’d definitely expect them or the broncos to finish last in the AFC west.
  15. Let them fail. Bail out institutions or people and they’ll continue to make poor or risky choices.
  16. Yeah we just got hail in HB. My boss got snow in Trabuco Canyon.
  17. I have no doubts but if we have anything over their country that isn't in space I'm guessing they'd shoot it down if they could or at the very least it's more advanced than a balloon. Every so often there's articles about Russian planes buzzing Alaska or some aircraft carrier while a Chinese spy balloon makes it over the continental US and our elected officials and military which spends more than the next x countries combined ponders what to do.
  18. I'm guessing Payton will get paid a shit ton of money which helped his decision. Denver didn't have the draft capital to make the move and they're now counting even more on Wilson rebounding and various players they lost over the course of 2022 coming back strong. They'll also need to hit on some of the picks they have this year which start in round 3. If I were the rest of the AFC west I wouldn't be too worried about Denver in 2023 considering how terrible they were in 2022 offensively.
  19. Last year my right knee ended up swelling up for a few days. I took time off exercising and did a lot of icing with my knee elevated. After a few days it was back to normal which was before I would have been able to see my doctor and if it didn't go down I would have gone to urgent care. I've run a few half marathons and still run 3-4 days a week. What GB mentioned has been my experience as one leg or knee getting a bit sore makes me overcompensate which can lead to injuring the other leg. If you aren't already I'd recommend both you and your wife start taking glucosamine and possibly collagen. You can also get pre/post workout mix from like GNC that you can combine with collagen.
  20. Arte's 76 and his investment is valued 10x+ what he paid for it while he'd make even more if he sold. I would hope at his age he isn't interested in trying to move the team but stranger things have happened. That said as soon as I saw the headline that he wasn't selling I came here for the lulz. Hopefully they extend Ohtani.
