  1. We’ve had people take minutes in meetings and keep track to move things along. Some things you do in most jobs aren’t explicitly in writing as you’d have to have pages and pages of possible job functions to cover the possibilities. I’ve never thought to say no when asked to do something and would only do it if it was illegal, immoral and/or I took serious issue with it. I think most people get further by being willing to say yes but to each their own.
  2. We have some friends who had a trip planned for Labor Day and they’re pivoting. We’ll definitely be doing something else in October probably closer to home. Like Larry I don’t want to get in the way or be a tourist while locals are still in temporary housing and trying to figure out their next step. I hope the area comes back as strong as ever and has some of the appeal it previously did.
  3. I’m sorry for your families loss. That said I’m glad to hear he went peacefully surrounded by family doing what he loved. Thanks for sharing him with us. This place won’t be the same without him but his memory will live on.
  4. Was about to start booking for a trip in a few months but going to hold off and see how things play out. The videos and footage are crazy. Seeing articles saying at least 6 dead so far. Hoping that number doesn't increase.
  5. The majority of the candidates he supported in the mid-terms lost because they tried to run on his brand. If his supporters wanted to win and beat the opposition they wouldn’t still be supporting him. Even the degenerates at the tracks know when it’s time to back another horse.
  6. https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/the-angels-are-going-for-it-with-shohei-ohtani-but-they-could-require-hard-reset-if-he-leaves-in-free-agency/ 10 players listed including Ohtani who are set to be FA's. As the article points out they may not be big name in demand players but the Angels talent level could drop off quite a bit. On the flip side they could replace some of those guys with better players but the last so many year's of FA signings and acquisitions don't give me much hope. Even if they re-sign Ohtani the FO is going to have their work cut out of them.
  7. I don’t get the infatuation with Trump. He doesn’t care about being president to do good for the country nor does he give a shit about any of his supporters. He just doesn’t like losing and he likes using the position for him and his family to make money. He literally egged people on to vote against him ensuring he didn’t get re-elected. If he could have put his ego aside he might have won. The best thing that could happen for this country and society would be him croaking or ending up in jail so he can’t run. I’m sure if the latter happened enough of his supporters would still write his name in ensuring the dems win in 2024. When he finally croaks I’ll be curious to see if his followers rally behind whatever crazy candidate tries to parlay his success. If the primaries were right now and he didn’t win his supporters would torpedo the Republican candidate similar to Bernie’s supporters in 2016. Candidate over party, it’s just weird.
  8. *If someone breaks the law or screws the pooch big time better chances than not they’re a trojan.
  9. https://www.yahoo.com/news/imitation-n-mexico-looks-original-182600544.html I wonder if In-I-Nout improved the fries.
  10. Once they decided they weren’t trading Ohtani they had to do something to fill holes on the roster. If they don’t make the playoffs and/or resign Ohtani it’s going to be a tough pill to swallow but they had to take a chance after years of misses via FA to give the team a shot this season.
  11. Thanks for the update but f*ck this news. I hope Lou is as comfortable as can be and is surrounded by his loved ones.
  12. I don’t know anything about the prospects traded but as others mentioned you have to give to get. The Angels aren’t trading Ohtani so they should be doing everything they can to make a run. Adding a legit SP and BP arm go a long way to improve their chances. Making this move 6 days before the deadline removes quite a bit of pressure. Every year at the deadline we see what pitching costs even rentals and I wouldn’t be surprised if the guys the Angels gave up don’t seem like a lot compared to other deals.
  13. https://amp.cnn.com/cnn/2023/07/11/us/california-homeless-spending/index.html Wonder how many 6 figure jobs came about from that $17.5B.
  14. Way too many misses and not enough hits when it comes to pitching signings. I get not giving out big FA contracts to pitchers but no matter who the GM has been for the last so many years their pitching acquisitions have as a whole underperformed. Meanwhile in house options have failed to live up to expectations as too many we needed to fill a need have had the team looking for replacement options. Add in big FA contracts for hitters turning into albatrosses and it’s the cherry on top of the shit sundae that’s lead to one playoff appearance in the prior 13 seasons.
  15. Glad to see the ruling on the student loans. Make the interest 0 or close to it or better yet get the government out of guaranteeing student loans that allow people to waste money or get worthless degrees. If the court had allowed this we’d be doing the same dance with student loans every election cycle for votes and future admins could possibly apply the ruling to other things “they” (taxpayers) pay.
  16. Hey now, the raver and raver wannabe's who never actually went to raves wore them too.
  17. I’m a casual fan at best and don’t know anything about NHL prospects. That said it’s never fun seeing the talk after the first round of the draft being about how the blue jackets are winners because of the guy the ducks passed on. Really hope this doesn’t end up biting them in the ass.
  18. For Larry and Kotch https://www.yahoo.com/news/coming-children-chant-nyc-drag-013727152.html
  19. I went into accounting because when I was younger it was mentioned as a stable career. I stuck with it because with the way my brain works it made sense to me. My only advice if you're planning to major in accounting is advice my auditing professor gave our class - if you're majoring in accounting you should be planning to at least sit for the CPA exam. Outside of that I would say to major in something you get some kind of joy, satisfaction or whatever else it is you want out of your career because you might end up doing it or something related to it for the next 40+ years. That said the trick is also finding something you can hopefully make a living off of.
  20. Thanks for the heads up. I remember seeing Come and See listed as one of the best war movies ever in various articles but at the time it wasn’t streaming anywhere. According to IMDB they wanted to hypnotize the main character through the violent scenes so as to not screw him up but he wasn’t susceptible to hypnotizing. By the time the movie was finished shooting supposedly his hair had started to grey. Another one I want to see which I think was a made for tv movie is Shot Through The Heart which was about two friends who are snipers on opposite sides of the war in Sarajevo. Haven’t been able to find that yet.
