Who cares about replacement level? Replacement for what, exactly? This team is in serious trouble and they need to get guys up that can develop for the future. When you are 11 games out and going nowhere, the concern is not about now. The concern is developing players for the next few years. How can that be any more painful than what we are watching on the field?
The longer they wait before throwing in the towel and going a new direction, the longer the current pain is going to last.

LOL...if they are, they are getting seriously ripped off.
They play more like a bunch of stoners...

What I'm reading here is, most of our players aren't worth much... which may explain our position in the standings.

Hard to improve on the genuine article today...

“When he struggles, he really struggles,” Angels manager Mike Scioscia said. “Joe made some good pitches but he just missed with some spots. He was at 90 pitches and wasn’t out of the fourth. With 11 baserunners, things just weren’t falling his way. He’s out there trying. There’s nobody trying harder than Joe, but it just didn’t come together tonight.”

They have made more than a couple. They have been building  for 3+ years. Check out the kid Lake they started in CF last night.
The Redsox dumped their albatross contracts, fired a couple of managers, and they are back.
Some orgs recognize their mistakes, bite the bullets to rectify them, and move on.
The Angels are stuck in the same pattern that brought them GMJ and Vernon Wells.
The Cubs will be relevant again before the Angels are.

I really question if some of you are actually Angel fans.

    Of course I voted Yes.

Scioscia is the single best chance we have at getting high draft picks and restocking the farm.

Shame on all of you who voted No!

    Monsters.

You realize that the AL West was one of the WORST divisions in baseball through those years, right? How'd we do in the playoffs?

Scioscia could be the roving minor league intangibles coach.

Wait...I thought there were going to be a dozen teams standing in line for his services??
None of those teams would be willing and able to pick up a major piece of his salary?
If not, maybe he isnt as coveted as many here seem to think.

Homebrewer got a reaction from Lou in So, why are we trying to give away outs in the 4th inning of a tie game?
This team is about as miserable as a projected GOOD baseball team gets.
Yet so many of you spend your time here putting down the people that have the guts to tell you that it's bad.
Some of us have had stated reasons why we thought it might not BE great.
I understand why you might not want to hear it, yet again..
But some of us have been saying it for a long time, and here we are...
ANOTHER 3rd or 4th place finish in a 4 or 5 team division.
    Who needs meds?
The people that don't like Scioscia style baseball, or the people that cant imagine that there is anyone better?
    You guys need serious meds.
No meds will  wake you up.

Let's begin with the FACT that it takes the fat man until JUNE every year, to come up with a decent batting order.

Look at some of the other MLB coaching staffs. Good God Look at the Dbacks
Gibson, Baylor, Nagy. Sax, Matt Williams, Allan Trammel...
2 of those "assistants" once managed, and all of them were stars. REAL ballplayers. All Star Teams.

Chili Davis in OAK...that guy could actually hit!
You going to listen the Jim Eppard or Mike Butcher or Piccilo ( or whatever his obscure no-name is)?
Seroiusly. Scioscia has assembled the Chester Milktoasts of coaching staffs.
Who are these guys and what ML player is going to take them seriously??

Trout is far above average, he just happens to be stuck up to his knees in a pile of crap.
Most managers would exploit and use his talents to really improve their team.
On this poorly managed baseball team, he is floundering just like everyone else.
Gotta hand it to Scioscia, it takes special talent and effort to take a special player like Mike Trout,
    and turn him into average.

    Scioscia is Arte's guy.
We as fans are paying the price of Scioscia's lifetime contract.
Think Hamilton and Pujols are going to handcuff this team??
Just imagine Scioscia getting his way for 5 MORE YEARS.
This org is already corkscrewed so deep it is barely detectable.

Yeah, Haren was awesome. I will never forget how he pumped the team up with huge, complete game, shutout wins to get us into the playoffs, and all of those playoff wins he had.
Him and Torii, man. I really miss those " Team Leaders"
Those were the good old days.
Scioscia is awesome too. Always has the team ready to go in the spring. Firing on all cylinders.
Butcher is awesome too. Guys just fall apart when they leave Butcher. Pitchers really miss his sound advice.
If we could just have the 3rd place team we had last year, we might be better than Seattle now.
