He seems to be more aggressive on the first pitch of the games I've watch lately.

How long before Trout gets the Barroids treatment, IBB after IBB?
Listening to the post game on the radio here in Texas the other day and they were talking about walking Trout even with the basesloaded after his grand slam.

Trout is such a baseball savant, it wouldn't surprise me if he's got an amazing eye for talent. Let the guy have some input.

I just posted this in the Prospect thread. How does Baseball Prospectus stack up with other prospect sites?

Pujols isnt a Boras player. It is Boras that always leak to the media about some mystery team. It is believed he dies this to create an environment where a team may bid against themselves and jack the salary up.
I dont think it was ever reported that there was a "mystery team" involved in the negotiations of Pujols. I maybe wrong.
Boras isnt Manny's agent Dan Lozano is. Dan Lozano also represents Albert Pujols.

If we sign Kikuchi, would people be on board with making Barria the centerpiece of a Realmuto trade?
Id rather sign Grandal and keep Barria. Giving up a 2nd pick would suck for the Grandal signing but I view Barria higher than that, plus add additional prospects on top of that...no thank you.

Well opinions vary on this one but the man himself has made it clear he wants to play meaningful baseball.
I guess the simplest way to put this is if someone asks you to buy stock that has shown a loss in value for the last few years you are going to have a hard time justifying the investment in that as opposed to one whose value has been rising. Weve spent the last 3 years in the red, we need to get back to the green. I think winning a wild card would go along way to showing progress in that regard.
Oh and not to nitpick, but we arent exactly a loaded farm either. WE have 1 legit possible star, a handful of very good guys and a lot of potentially average major leaguers. Its going to take some outside influx regardless even assuming we keep the core intact.I thought the way you make money in the stock market is to buy low before the price starts rising to maximize your return.

Also, if the Angels end up signing Kikuchi, your rotation is (likely):
Kikuchi, Skaggs, Harvey, Heaney, Cahill and Barria starting 2019 for a 3 LHP/3 RHP split with "long relievers" Pena and Tropeano available as depth and J.C. Ramirez coming back from Rehab
I like it! Lock in Grandal at catcher and we are looking good.

Not a huge fan of this move, but I'm not completely opposed.
Pros: Cahill's stuff has maintained, he's clearly a good for a 3.50 ERA and a lot of K's. His signing probably doesn't eliminate the Angels from signing Yusei Kikuchi or even perhaps trading for Bauer or Kluber. It's just a one year deal, so if he sucks, he won't haunt the Angels long term. Harvey and Cahill together are a heck of a lot better than what the Angels got collectively from their #4 and #5 spots in the rotation last year.
Cons: Let's face it, Billy Eppler said he wanted to get steady pitchers that can eat up innings, and he just spent 20 million on two pitchers with significant injury history. Trevor Cahill hasn't thrown more than 110 innings in the last 5 fives. He hasn't thrown 200 in seven years. And if the Angels are looking for front of the rotation production to get them to the playoffs, this isn't it. Not exactly sure how Mike Trout views these one year deals. The Angels have money to spend, and yet they aren't spending it. Not even sure if he wants to stay or not. Maybe they're saving for his extension. I don't know.
Overall: These aren't the sort of moves that move the needle much, but if Skaggs and Heaney have the years they had last year, and the Angels upgrade their offense AND they land Kikuchi, then suddenly this is a playoff team. It's doubtful they'll do it, but again, this is looking like an 80-85 win team.
I don't get saving for the Trout ext, wouldn't it be just adding additional 5-7 mil based on what he is making now?
I think we end the offseason by signing Kikuchi and Grandal.

I don’t think it is personally.
Me either, i was wondering what I was missing and why people thought it was a bad contract.

Why is the Lynn contract for 3/30 a bad contract?

This guy isn't good enough to be in the Yankees rotation but he's good enough for ours.
Check out his splits. Gray is a pretty good pitcher outside of Yankee stadium.

Why would we expect them to "fall into our range". At this point most deals have been overpays. If thats what we are waiting on we might want to find a really comfy chair.
I think the price drops the longer you wait for the lower tier pitchers and FA position players.

I still like Matt Harvey. Probably can get him cheapish. He’s still fairly young. He has a lot of upside. Lance Lynn is a pretty good target as well. Top of my pitching list is Kikuchi.
I wouldn't mind 2 of the pitchers you mentioned. I would even add Sanchez as a target as well. Gray would be a good target if we trade for a SP.

Yan Gomes is being traded to the Nationals.

Narvaez would have been a good get for the Angels. Never heard of him before this trade.

the 30 mil to spend is only if they decide to stay under the cap. arte always has the option to go above it if he chooses.
i think if they want to keep trout AND attract top tier free agents, they'll have to go above the cap.
30 mil to spend this year is a number that has been set by Arte. We have more space than that to hit the CBT, for instance we could potentially add about 60 mil in payroll this year and still be under the tax. From what Fletch has said its about keeping the the payroll within a range of what Arte is comfortable paying year over year, not the tax.
