  1. Pujols for Fowler.  Let Pujols finish his career in a Cards uni and hope for for some bounce back from Fowler.  He would make a good 4th OF, starter if he bounces back.  Might have to kick in some money to even it out but the contract length is the same.

I think the Angels need to land two starters, so both.

You cannot go into the season with an inconsistent Heaney, oft-inuried and inconsistent Skaggs, plus a sophomore in Barria and a bunch of what IF's. The Angels need some quality innings of starters that can go deep into games. Would really like Corbin, but I think he wants to sign in New York.

If we sign both though that eats up all 30 mil we have to spend this off season.

I think he throws low to mid nineties and according to some can actually crank it up beyond that.

He's the Japanese version of what we want Skaggs to be.

I feel like having Ohtani either gives us the inside track on this guy or it completely negates our ability to get him.

The other thing to consider is that he'll likely get a contract of 4/60 plus the 25m for posting.  That ain't chump change.

If you had to pick between Eovaldi and Kikuchi for 4/60 plus the posting fee for Kikuchi, who would you rather have?  Assuming of course both wanted to play here for that contract.

"The Cleveland Indians will listen to trade offers for some of their veteran players this winter as they face the sort of difficult choices that small-market teams must address, according to sources.

The Indians will hold on to shortstop Francisco Lindor and MVP candidate Jose Ramirez next season, but they have indicated to the industry that they are prepared to discuss other accomplished players, including 2017 Cy Young Award winner Corey Kluber, pitcher Carlos Carrasco, catchers Yan Gomes and Roberto Perez, slugger Edwin Encarnacion and second baseman Jason Kipnis, among others."

What do you think it would take to get Kluber, Carrasco or Gomes?

  5. If we are talking FA signings only and not including trades, what do you think about these two options.  I got my projections from the Jon Heyman linked article in another thread.

Option 1 (total spend $34.5 million):

    SP:

    Nathan Eovaldi - 4yrs, 60 million - 15 million per year

    Utility:

    Daniel Murphy - 2yrs, 19 million - 9.5 mil per year

    4th OF:

    Jon Jay - 2yrs, 8 million - 4 million per year

SP/RP - we can go either way with this one.

    Greg Holland/Anibal Sanchez - 1yr, 6 mil

Option 2 (total spend $37.5 Million):

    SP:

    Nathan Eovaldi - 4yrs, 60 million - 15 million per year

    Anibal Sanchez - 1yr, 6 million

    RP:

    Greg Holland - 1yr, 6 million

    Adam Warren - 3yr, 15 million - 5 million per year

    Utility:

    Neil Walker - 1yr, 3 million

    4th OF

    Carlos Gomez - 1yr, 2,5 million

Take 2 or what ever number....................... Player or trades i would like us to look into.

    1. Trade for Gray

    2. Try to sign Evolaldi  4 yrs 36 mil

    3. Andrew Miller( 2yr/ 15 mil)  and Familia (3yrs/27 Mil)

    5. Denard Span has a 4th or backup to Calhoun

    5.

I've been reading that Evoaldi could get a contract up to 4yrs and 80 mil.

Eovaldi will get $15m per year.

Even at 15 mil a year we still only spend 35 mil this off-season.  We wont have any long term commitments and its keeps or team flexible moving forward while still improving the offense and pitching.

  8. My wish list:

    -  Trade for Sonny Gray.  Yankees want to move on from him and it wont take a lot to get him from the Yanks.  Plus Billy has prior relationships to lean on to make it happen.

    -  Trade for Cesar Hernandez. est. 7 mil Wont be a FA until 2021. Solves 2nd base and gives us a leadoff hitter.  Moves Fletch or Cozart to Utility role

    -  Sign Eovaldi.  2-3 yrs at 10-12 mil per.

    -  Sign Matt Adams for 1yr 4 mill.  Give us a left handed bat that can play 1st and also play a corner OF spot

    Sonny Gray - 9 mil

    Nathan Eovaldi - 10-12 mil

    Cesar Hernandez - 7 mil

    Matt Adams - 4 mil

Total added payroll - 30-32 mil

I doubt it takes up a whole lot to get Gray and it will be a little more to get Hernandez but our farm will still be in great shape.  We improve our SP and by proxy or BP and upgrade our offense with a leadoff switch hitter and a power left handed bat all for $30 mil.

    SP

Skaggs, Gray, Eovaldi, Heany, Barria, Shoemaker

    Offense

    Hernandez - 2b

    Trout - CF

    Ohtani - DH

    Upton - LF

    Adams/Pujols - 1B

    Calhoun - RF

    Cozart - 3B

    Smith - C

    Simmons - SS

Yeah, that's the biggest stumbling block to me...I don't think our farm's strengths/depth (infield, outfield) match up with their needs (pitching)...there would probably be some attention on guys like Soriano and Yan, who I'd be a little leery dealing in-division and without it being a pitcher coming back.

I absolutely love D'Shawn Knowles and think he's going to turn into a very legit prospect soon, but he is still only 17. The Rangers signed his twin brother D'Vaughn Knowles last offseason, so perhaps there'd be some interest there, with him representing a good chunk of prospect value in the deal.

And for those not wanting to trade any prospects...keep in mind, Joey Gallo is just one month older than Taylor Ward, months older than David Fletcher, one year older than Thaiss, one year older than Ohtani, a couple years younger than Trout. He'd be under control for four more seasons, through 2022. He costs league minimum right now. The difference between he and those names I just listed being prospects really is not that vast. He's the type of guy the Angels could trade two years from now when someone like Thaiss or Adell is truly ready for full-time, above-average MLB production, and they'd still get a good return on him.

I'm not worried about trading away prospects but more so who we trade.  Rangers aren't sold on Profar, they may trade Elvis at some point if he doesn't opt out and they don't know which Odor they will get from year to year.  Willie Calhoun doesnt have a position and it looks like Beltre wont be back.  They arent as deep at infield as some would think.  We could get Gallo for position prospects and the Rangers could flip Mazara & Elvis for Pitching.

  10. I live here in North Texas and Id be down for getting Gallo.  With that said it all depends on the prospect cost to acquire him.  Rangers farm isnt that great and I would think they would be inclined to take some lower level prospects (no matter the position) with a high ceiling that would fit their window to compete in 3-4 years.  They will need some players that will be MLB ready though to supplement their MLB team team when they open up the new park.  Gallo fills many needs and as frustrating as it is to watch hitters strikeout its becoming the norm.

  11. I think what daygloman is referring to is the new tear that has developed with Ohtani and it could have been avoided if he didn't pitch again.  With that said, if it was one or two tears the surgery and recovery time is the same and the Angels & Ohtani handled the situation the best they could.  I look forward to Ohtani hitting bombs next year from the left side and cant wait till he takes the mound again in 2020.  Hopefully this forces the Angels hand with Pujols.

And it also gives the Angels the clear direction to focus on pitching depth and upgrades.

This also clears up the DH picture next year. Ohtani will only hit, so there's a good chance the Angels will have real reason to sit down with Albert and discuss the possibility of reduced playing time.

    That's what I was thinking.

Don’t take this the wrong way, but I will wait for a different site to rank the Angels farm.  I don’t want to be a hypocrite and shit on bleacher report for their recent Trout article, but then find how they rank the Angels as relevant.  I am not saying you are being a hypocrite,  I think you just found someone that ranked our farm and posted it.  I guess at the end of the day they are simply trying to get hits, thus articles like the Trout is leaving the Angels suck.

Ranking teams from 1-15.  This article is from March 2018

    Rankings 30-16
