This seems to fit into a pattern. Eppler really likes to draft raw athleticism over kids who sure early results. I think he has a lot of faith in our staff to develop prospects into their raw tools, so he doesn't worry so much about how they look cooming in.
Also, isn't this out second outfielder in the minors who has a background in football?
Marsh and Hunter Jr come to mind.

I posted this in the prospects thread, but I'll drop it here too...
Maybe one of the reasons we didn't go after a college arm and went for the best overall player/athlete with our 1st rounder is the club control of all of our arms.
Ohtani, Barria, Canning, Suarez, Tropeano, Heaney, Skaggs, Pena, Castillo, Lamb and if Richards wants to remain a teammate with his best friend, MIke Trout, maybe Richards gives the Angels a hometown discount? That's a hell of a lot of pitching.
There's also guys like Gatto, Rodriguez, Soriano, Madero, Rivera, Almonte, Swanda & Duensing.
We also have Alex Meyer, Nate Smith and Chris Rodriguez coming back from injury.
Tons of pitching depth there!
Great point!

Some people have hung a 60 hit tool on this kid -- MLB has it at 55... Angels passing on the arms early to pick up the young upside position players.
Kind of crazy because it seemed like the Angels were mostly linked to pitchers

Hoping for Wilcox or Rocker

So who do you guys want with our 2nd pick?

I'd have a hard time putting him that high. We've got about 4 or 5 guys who haven't played yet this year that could jump big. Suarez, Barria, and Canning ahead of him. Plus Adell, Marsh, Jones, and probably even Thaiss and Chris Rodriguez right now.
I saw a tweet that put him 11th

5-start WR, committed to UNC, he may not sign.
I’m sure they made sure he would sign before they drafted him.

Why would they draft a shortstop? They've got tons of middle infield prospects.
I thought adams was an OF

I think Edwards is a more sure thing, while Turang has a little more upside.
Gotcha, for me I would pick Turang.

Good. I'd rather draft a pitcher here, unless it's this Edwards kid. Just a personal preference though.
Should you pick Edwards over Turang?

Brice Turang, please!
I get a chub picturing a future core of Adell, Marsh and Turang.
Im would be happy with Turang as well.

What’s the deal with duffy this year? Seems like he is struggling, can anyone familiar with pitching metrics see a trend with him? Is he a good bounce back candidate?

So, what did Kole do?
Line out to Right....hit it hard.

Does drafting BPA really work with the MLB draft though? Isn’t there more strategy involved than drafting BPA because of slot money and getting higher upside draft picks in rounds 2,3,4 with signability issues? I’m all about drafting BPA as long as we can sign our top picks regardless of position.

Dude, hit me up!
In fact, we should meet up at the Pyramid right across the street for beers prior to the game.
I love the Pyramid. Got a beer tap while we were there a couple years ago. Seattle has usher's posted up out side the stadium on a segway with a sign that said "ask me anything", so I had my youngest (9 i think at the time) ask him when was the last time the M's won the world series. HA!

It changes every day. One day it's Canning, the next it's Marsh, next week it will be Adell. Finally we have a system!
I'd really like to see Rivas do well.
agreed.

Most pumped about: so many of them, this is a real farm system again.
Most disappointed in: has to be Baldoquin. Second would be Nonie Williams, who hasn’t even progressed to Orem yet after two rookie league seasons with a .560s OPS.
Agreed on Baldoquin. Seems like when he is starting to put it together he gets hurt.

Love reading the prospect thread but I was curious, which Angel Prospects is everyone the most excited about? Also, which prospect have you been disappointed in so far? I loved the Nonnie Williams pick but I haven't heard much about him lately.

6’2 180 as a 15yr old? I’ll take it!

I like and agree with everything you said.

Still my choice to open as our starting 2B in '19. Saves money, perfect #9 hitter. Supplement with an offense-first bench infielder who can swap places if he can't cut it offensively.
In this scenario who would lead off next year? Cozart?

Giving up a lot of HRs and BBs is usually an indicator that the pitchers are not throwing to where the catcher’s mitt is placed.
So maybe its a mechanical issue that will be ironed out soon.

Would be great if we could get Beck with our 4th round pick.
