Yeah, it's basically a direct re-creation of Drive to Survive, but with golf. Same format/structure and style. I'm sure the PGA saw what that series did for F1 in the US and was like "Can we be next please?" As GB said, people that are already fans of golf will probably enjoy it, yet the show is very clearly aimed at people that know nothing about golf. Like they spend a lot of time talking about how tournaments work, explaining scoring, etc... I remember a huge text graphic at one point explaining what a bogey is for instance.

This is absolutely hilarious. Like if these are the actual final numbers on what it would cost to do this (and we all know they're not), maybe it's just not a good idea? Sure, it would be nice to get from Bakersfield to Merced quickly, and I know that would make everyone in California very happy; but maybe the juice just isn't worth the squeeze there. Sort of the same way I'd like to hire a house cleaner to come by once a week, but I'd also rather not pay her $24 billion. I just can't fathom how anyone thinks this is realistic. Both from a cost and reality perspective. Like, obviously the cost is insanely high compared to the return if it ever actually gets built. But this has also been in the works for so long, and so much money has gone into it, and nobody has done anything of actual importance so far. The assessments, planning, and general bureaucratic BS surrounding this whole thing has become an industry unto itself, and everyone in the world can see it with the exception of the people that keep greenlighting more and more of it. It's basically a public works ponzi scheme at this point, which is why I'm sure there are decision makers out there taking down some of that cash flow either directly or indirectly. And nobody seems to be able to stop it.

Interesting that that's a part of it. Because other streaming providers have had the RSNs at one point or another, but most have failed to keep them. I'd assume that was because the RSNs wanted a larger chunk of cash from the streaming platforms than what they were getting from them at the time. And now it seems like any amount would have been better than nothing.

Definitely not a fan of the "officiating was suspect" narrative surrounding the last two Chiefs wins. It definitely felt like that defensive holding call in the SB was a gift, but it wasn't like there was nothing there. It was just a borderline call for the situation, and I wouldn't have expected them to throw the flag. If I were an Eagles fan, I'd be pissed for sure. That said, the Chiefs still did everything they needed to do to win, and they most likely would have been up 3 with 1:45 left had they not got that flag. That's obviously a dramatically different game situation than the one that played out, but it's not like the Eagles were certain to win or tie the game without that call going against them. There were a few calls that could have gone differently (both for and against the Chiefs), but I thought it was really well-officiated overall. The Cincy game narrative I think is ridiculous. People started saying that it was a ref show the next day, and it seems like everyone just ran with that as the story, and the evidence just doesn't back it up. I know they had the weird thing where the official blew the ball dead before a play and nobody heard him, thus giving the Chiefs an extra down. Again, weird play, not an ideal situation to figure out for the officials... but the drive resulted in a punt, so no harm done. Past that, it seems like Cincy fans really grabbed onto the idea that an offensive hold should have been called on the play when Mahomes got late hit out of bounds in the 4th quarter. Not sure you can find a weaker "the refs cost us the game" argument than that. There is offensive holding on every single play in the NFL. Sometimes it gets called, sometimes not. A questionable hold got a TD wiped off the board for the Chiefs earlier in that very same game. Works that way for everybody. But that late hit on the Mahomes run was gonna get called no matter what. So best case scenario for the Bengals is offsetting penalties and Chiefs probably try a 59-ish yard FG, which likely means OT. So yeah, some borderline shit that may have affected the outcome of the game didn't go the Bengals way. It happens. Them acting like the officials were trying everything in their power to help KC win that game though is absolutely ludicrous. The people of Southern Ohio are trash.

Maybe someone has explained this in the thread already, but what's the cause of the bankruptcies (beyond the obvious)? When it came to Bally's/Diamond I suppose I sort of assumed it was just mismanagement on a level akin to just moving money around incorrectly. But with the above linked article on the AT&T RSNs I'm wondering if there is maybe an issue with the RSNs and MLB/NBA/NHL rights in general. Like did these RSNs just overestimate the revenue they'd make broadcasting games? Were they waiting for some sort of additional revenue stream related to the broadcasts to mature, but it never came through? Is it an issue of advertisers punting on traditional TV ads in favor of more efficient/effective/modern ad platforms, thus killing the RSN ad income?

Relievers are always somewhat of a gamble. Just try to sign as many guys with recent success as possible, then hope a couple work out well.
