  1. The Diplomat (Season One): New Netflix show about a freshly-appointed US ambassador to the UK (Keri Russell) dealing with an international crisis amidst complex political relationships on both sides of the Atlantic. Good writing, good acting, good character development. Just an all-around well put together show. I think Netflix has already committed to a second season, and I'll definitely be watching that when it comes out. Also, Keri Russell is hot.
  2. Yeah, I’m sure they have individual bottles available online somewhere. They’re available in most grocery stores around here.
  3. Gates definitely isn’t the best barbecue in KC overall, but their sauce definitely is. It’s a lot more peppery than other sauces you’d find in KC, and not nearly as sweet as a lot of the others. It works really really well on burgers too, strangely. https://gatesbbq.com/product/40-oz-classic-only-bbq-sauce-case/
  4. Sisu Went to see this last night. Really well put together in terms of how it looks, feels, sounds, etc… The story is pretty straightforward and uncomplicated. It’s about killing Nazis, plain and simple. Basically John Wick meets Inglorious Basterds, while looking and feeling like a 60s-era western, all set in 1944 Finland.
  5. Netflix - War Sailor: A newly released Norwegian short series (three episodes) about merchant marines in WWII. Specifically tracks two friends and one family from shortly before the war until a few years after. EXTREMELY well-made and acted. One of the better things I've seen in a long time. That said, it is F-ING ROUGH. Like horrifically, viscerally, deeply sad and intense. Several times I found myself thinking the scenes they were showing were much more realistic depictions of the sad, scary stuff that can happen when being hunted on the open sea than the (somewhat) glamourized version of death and destruction that you see in a lot of war films. It just sort of highlights the lack of control people have when the world is going absolutely insane around them, and you really get to understand how thoroughly reasonable it is when people slip into various forms of madness as a result. All in all, a deeply unpleasant series that is really really good and well worth a watch.
  6. I'm sure we've gone over this already at some point in this thread, but we all know that A's fans are trash people, and that Oakland is probably the least favorite place for visiting players in MLB, at least partially due to the organization facilitating their fans being generally shitty to opposing players (crap ballpark too, I'd guess). Sucks that Rendon will have to get suspended for this, but it is fair, and he should have known better. That said, Frank Francisco only got 16 games for throwing a chair into the crowd there and breaking a woman's nose (because the A's have their bullpen along the foul lines and have taken basically zero steps to stop their fans from harassing opposing players... and the chair hit the wrong person).
  7. Cane’s does offer hot sauce. You just gotta ask.
  8. An unresponsive commish isn't a great start.
  9. Glad the "Let's stop starting guys that objectively suck" plan is coming together.
  10. Feels like a dead league already.
  11. Might’ve watched this a few times last night. Just an insane performance by Nowell.
  12. 10/500 is probably a reasonable guess for what he'll get on the FA market. Could even see him getting some sort of unique deal that allows him to make more than that in some way. In a global sense, the dude is the face of the sport, and he's well aware of that.
  13. I think this ball was last spotted somewhere over the Philippines.
  14. @Chuckster70 Thanks for the graphic btw. Pretty well put together by whoever did it. Also, MLB has team gear up for all the teams now. Some of the hats are pretty cool.
  15. Dropped some $ on Venezuela to win at +1000. Seemed like pretty good value. DR, USA, and Japan are top three betting favorites at +200, +275, and +275 respectively.
  16. I mean that's kinda their thing, historically. Like everything's cool, then BAM!... British Empire's here
  17. Yeah, it's basically a direct re-creation of Drive to Survive, but with golf. Same format/structure and style. I'm sure the PGA saw what that series did for F1 in the US and was like "Can we be next please?" As GB said, people that are already fans of golf will probably enjoy it, yet the show is very clearly aimed at people that know nothing about golf. Like they spend a lot of time talking about how tournaments work, explaining scoring, etc... I remember a huge text graphic at one point explaining what a bogey is for instance.
  18. This is absolutely hilarious. Like if these are the actual final numbers on what it would cost to do this (and we all know they're not), maybe it's just not a good idea? Sure, it would be nice to get from Bakersfield to Merced quickly, and I know that would make everyone in California very happy; but maybe the juice just isn't worth the squeeze there. Sort of the same way I'd like to hire a house cleaner to come by once a week, but I'd also rather not pay her $24 billion. I just can't fathom how anyone thinks this is realistic. Both from a cost and reality perspective. Like, obviously the cost is insanely high compared to the return if it ever actually gets built. But this has also been in the works for so long, and so much money has gone into it, and nobody has done anything of actual importance so far. The assessments, planning, and general bureaucratic BS surrounding this whole thing has become an industry unto itself, and everyone in the world can see it with the exception of the people that keep greenlighting more and more of it. It's basically a public works ponzi scheme at this point, which is why I'm sure there are decision makers out there taking down some of that cash flow either directly or indirectly. And nobody seems to be able to stop it.
