+1 The question should be not when he retires, but when he should become a part time player for the Angels. I think that time is rapidly approaching. I think the Angels would be better off using him late in the game, or starting in certain match ups. Or if he is able to get on base at a critical time in a game, bring in a pinch runner. His salary is a sunk cost at this point. No matter what situation someone could think up, the Angels are on the hook for the tab, or the majority of it.

No, but there are morale issues. It doesn't matter if it is a baseball team or an office full of employees. If there is a perception, real or imagined, that management is phoning it in - productivity will suffer.

I think that he is stepping down at the end of the year, but this wasn't supposed to be general knowledge. I would imagine it would be hard to keep the players playing if he was quitting.

I think the bullpen is tied to the starters success. Having 5 inning starters isn’t cutting it. The bullpen can be, for the most part, low cost.

I was reading the fire sale article on the MLB site, and realized the issue: No Bueno, Marte, and Cowart will be splitting 3rd base duties the rest of the year. Players don’t work out, I understand that, but the team never moves on. Just give Cowart the job the rest of the year, and jettison the other two.
