Yeah, this looks bad for the entire organization and it starts right at the top.
Not blaming Arte, but he is the owner. He's gotta fire fuckin everyone who knew about this.

The silver lining is that you can see SOME question marks around the future of the Astros rotation. Verlander is getting old, as is Greinke (and Greinke is actually starting to show it). If Cole walks, then your rotation is held down by two aging pitchers. Not sure how their farm looks for starting pitching, but they still certainly have young, talented hitting. But, SOME cracks, at least (as opposed to now, where the team looks kinda perfect).

I mean...I kinda want to watch the Astros stomp on the Dodgers. Granted, maybe that makes us less likely to get Cole? IDK.

This Astros team is incredible. Gotta think they area head and shoulders above every other team out there right now, especially in a playoff format. That hitting, combined with that 1-2-3 pitching, with good relief. Forget about it.

Jesus somehow I forgot the Astros acquired Greinke...all you hear about is Verlander and Cole...what a scary top 3 to face in the playoffs

The guy he specifically brought in and groomed to be the best manager, spent a year familiarizing himself with philosophies of Eppler, the prospects on the farm, analytics and was handed a three year contract by Eppler himself was just shown the door.
To me, that's a clear signal from Arte. "Win, Billy. Or else."

next year is probably the biggest year for Eppler. Cole a must sign, while we also have our top 2 prospects on the cusp.....time to put the everything all there.

Worth noting - a lot of people in this thread seem confused about why this tweet matters. Doesn't really matter who posted it - could be a dog that fell on the keyboard and hit a bunch of letters that accidentally spelled out that tweet. The important part is Middleton appearing to agree.
Second...idk. Not even looking at TJ specifically (which HAS been particularly bad for the Angels over the past 5 years, as Zen showed), the fact is that our rotation (and bullpen, but not as notably) has been ravaged by injuries for years. Look at that objectively. You hear about a soccer team that theoretically is good, but has had 80% of its members injured for the majority of the past 4 years. You hear about a basketball team who keeps signing new players, and yet always is forced to field their C team due to injuries. At what point do you start saying "maybe this isn't luck; maybe this team either has a problem with identifying risk, or a problem with conditioning"?
Like...idk, I don't know what the problem is, but SOMETHING is broken with this team.

I think we all agree with this. I think tdawg mentioned it earlier in here.
Wed all love to pinpoint something or someone to blame. But just from this tweet, theres no info. And looking at a lot of the guys who have been hurt, there seem to be a few other factors.
One thing of note. The arm problems started roughly 2015 off the top of my head. This came not long after we had to flip trumbo for skaggs and santiago (just mentioning it because this is around when we first started having pitching needs).
In that time frame, guys like weaver, richards, jepsen etc etc were still here. They were here for years prior. Weaver especially, but im sure all would have fought back against some radical change.
Santana for example needed TJ a few years AFTER leaving.
If anyone is bored and can figure out how, maybe someone should look into if there were any significant moves to the conditioning/training staff around that time?

I want to say Skaggs did have questions prior, but could be totally wrong. In Heaney, I dont remember anything. But...the Marlins were willing to flip a first round pick pitcher with 6 years of control for Dee Gordon. Makes you wonder.
But whatever it is, Heaney has only broken 100 innings twice in his MLB career. The first time was 105 innings.... I have a hard time believing in the year after landing here, the Angels unravelled some 15 years of pitching prior.
Richards throws heavy and sinks. Had he gotten TJ way back when the first time, hed be pitching this year, and hed still be here.
Again, Im not saying the angels arent doing something wrong. But there might be more understandable reasons.
