I'm thinking this has to do with Scioscia's traumatic treadmill experiences with the Dodgers.

The joy of the game has never left, even as he looks at it now through the eyes of an outsider. Asked for some stories, Hatcher produces as he did in '88.

"I came up with Scioscia," he says. "One spring, the Dodgers got worried about his weight. Al Campanis sends this treadmill to camp with a meter on it. Mike was supposed to do so many miles on it. One day, I hear this noise from the training room. I open the door and there's this little guy from the Dominican, running like crazy on the treadmill. Next to him, asleep on the couch, was Scioscia, shirt off and an empty pizza box on his stomach."

Well they are giving the test subjects way more than humans would ever consume (hopefully), and rats are prone to tumors even without being tested on so who's to say what really gives them the tumors.

When discussing things like this I always think back to the Joe Jackson song "Cancer". His point is that we are warned about pretty much everything.

Last night I was at Trader Joe's and asked if they carry sugar, they pointed me to bags of "Evaporated Cane Juice" which they were selling for 3.49. I knew what it was, and also knew that I could buy the same amount of C&H for about a quarter.
Didn't think that story would be so relevant so quickly.

Dr Gross did not treat ARod in person. Instead they spoke on the phone while ARod sent him an image. He then asked Arod if he felt OK and of course ARod said he felt no pain.  Therefore his conclusion is that ARod is not injured. Plus ARod sent him a large sum of $$ to say this on the radio.

I'd say it's reckless to allow someone who is not a doctor to treat and prescribe steroids to patients whether or not they were athletes or "needed" the steroids.

mp170.6 got a reaction from wopphil in Blanton needs to be released.
    Why?

General managers and fans alike suffer from the same myopia when comparing players.  Pitchers' stats have been improving steadily over the past few years -- and at the rate things are going -- 2013 is on track to have the lowest ERA in decades...currently, the MLB average is 3.91.

So when analyzing whether or not Joe Blanton was a wise choice, you have to take into account his 4.99 ERA as a Dodger last season and realize this isn't the steroid era of ten years ago.  Context matters, especially when last year's NL ERA was 3.76.

The last summer I lived in Oklahoma, we had six straight weeks of temps over 100, with humidity around 60 percent. We were finalizing the move to Las Vegas at the time. We flew out to LV in July and it was 110 with about five percent humidity, and it felt cooler.

The Fox team of joe, Tim, and Ken is impossible to watch. Tim trying to describe the lyrics of "Sandman" by Metallica, Mariano's walk in music, was ridiculous. I sent Stradling a txt in the sixth inning and told him that Rivera would win MVP. They barely mentions trout at all during the broadcast. Mariano got the most play. Then Harvey. Then Cano. The integrity is disappearing quickly from th game.
